Legacy by Nora Roberts Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents Legacy, a new novel of a mother and a daughter, of ambition and romance, and of a traumatic past reawakened by a terrifying threat…

Adrian Rizzo was seven when she met her father for the first time. That was the day he nearly killed her—before her mother, Lina, stepped in.

Soon after, Adrian was dropped off at her grandparents’ house in Maryland, where she spent a long summer drinking lemonade, playing with dogs, making a new best friend—and developing the stirrings of a crush on her friend’s ten-year-old brother. Lina, meanwhile, traveled the country promoting her fitness brand and turning it into a billion-dollar business. There was no point in dwelling on the past.

A decade later, Adrian has created her own line of yoga and workout videos, following in Lina’s footsteps but intent on maintaining creative control. And she’s just as cool-headed and ambitious as her mother. They aren’t close, but they’re cordial—as long as neither crosses the other.

But while Lina dismisses the death threats that Adrian starts getting as a routine part of her daughter’s growing celebrity, Adrian can’t help but find the vicious rhymes unsettling. Year after year, they keep arriving—the postmarks changing, but the menacing tone the same. They continue after she returns to Maryland and becomes reacquainted with Raylan, her childhood crush, all grown up and as gorgeously green-eyed as ever. Sometimes it even seems like the terrifying messages are indeed routine, like nothing will come of them. Until the murders start, and the escalation begins…

Typical Nora Roberts. Is the book formulaic? Yes, but but the formula works for Mrs. Roberts. No surprises, but fans will enjoy this nice comfortable read from their queen.

Dragged. It started off quick, and got you to get through the beginning but then the booked dragged the majority until the end

Great Read. Ms. Roberts hits it out of the park-AGAIN-with this one!

When does the next book come out?!. I wasn’t sure about starting so young at first, but then I realized I had time to fall in love with the characters and their families. Loved it!

Pretty good read. It took a while to get interesting but was a good read.

Boring. I stopped reading at page 400 something. No plot. I’ve read many of Nora’s books. She must have had a ghost writer.

Thrilling but love story too!. First book I’ve read of hers and won’t be the last I’m sure!!!

Legacy. Horrible bad writing trite predictable story lack of character development

Legacy. Wow this book like so many of her others are amazing! I loved every moment of it

Oh jeez. Shallow character development and flimsy storyline. 90% Brady Bunch & 10% Son of Sam.

Becoming redundant. I usually love Nora Roberts, but a certain aspect of her writing is becoming repetitive. I am not sure if I have a good way to describe it, but it goes something like this: Tommy had a short fuse but it came with a soft heart. It all balanced out in the end. It just feels like she always yin and yangs the main characters and other’s understanding of them. Whoever is in perspective will find something annoying then balance it with recognition of other traits. It’s becoming predictable drivel and lazy writing. Irritating enough I wrote an entire review about it. The last 7 or so books have had this aspect. Like she is reading copious amounts of one author and subconsciously emulating their tone.

Long, boring and uneventful. I am 2/3 through the book and struggling to continue reading this slow, uninteresting book. Nothing of note happens after the first chapter.

Legacy. Loved it. It had family, drama, love, mystery, and it flowed beautifully! It made you sad, happy, & intrigued. I cried and laughed, and I loved the unexpected. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next like you can with a lot of books. The dogs were just genius!

Excellent. I always love Nora Roberts books and have read them all. Legacy has to rank in the 5 of all her books. I literally did not want to put it down. I wanted these characters to go on and on.

Way too long…but good story. Typical Nora Roberts. Extended families and lots of drama. Good storyline but way too much excruciating minutiae of daily routines that you must just page through. It finally all came together towards the end. All and all a feel-good read with a happy ending

Disappointing. I love Nora Roberts. I really disliked this whole story. Way beneath her quality of story telling.

Formulaic at Best - Nora Can Do Better. I’m a big Nora Roberts fan and have read all her novels & trilogies. This is at the very bottom of the ranked list. Her books have a formula but this one lacks the magic she’s capable of. The main character is completely unidimensional, still don’t know her after 30 chapters. The publishing machine demands one novel and one third of a trilogy a year from dear Nora. This was phoned in and feels as though it’s written by a staff of writers from the notes of the great Ms. Roberts. I read most of her books more than once, I won’t read-read this one. Always an entertaining read but this title is flat, predictable and leaves the reader wanting more. More depth of character, an art Nora Roberts masters in other books like “The Witness” and “Whisky Beach.” More side story lines that are believable. Really, this one is a big MEH.

Outstanding. This is a can’t put down book. Nora Roberts is at her best. Well drawn out characters that you care about, a believable story, and suspenseful until the very last page, with twists and turns along the way. I highly recommend it!

Best of all. I have been reading Nora Roberts books since I was 16, I love all her books but this one…… I laughed, I cried happy and sad tears, I got angry, hungry, and so much more. This book the words just made me feel everything. Thank you Nora Roberts!

Legacy. OMG! What a great story! I couldn’t wait to see what was coming next! I’ll never forget this one!

Loved the book.. Could not put this book down. One of the best she’s written

Loved the book and all the details about friendship, loyalty and importance of family.. Exciting ending!! I will read again!

Recommend. Enjoyable characters, and a bit of love. The dramatic violence was predictable, but it was just as I thought it would be in the end. Nice to see strong female characters, I would recommend.

Captivating. Charming story of a family’s love, heritage, pride, struggles and secrets. This with murder, tension, successes and intriguing past entanglements kept my rapt attention in every available moment. I’m saddened that they will leave my daily life now that the end has arrived. Fabulous read!

Legacy of family. A little predictable but a well written story!

Legacy. Too easy to figure out who did it. Not her best book.

Another suspenseful story…. Riveting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat! Although you can surmise the direction of the story, the way it twists through will keep you wondering. A truly great story of inner strength, resilience, community and love that will totally entertain.

Brat story. Loved the book beginning to end.

Disappointed with Nora Roberts. Didn’t like all the killings and the brutality involved. Wanted more love scenes. More making love in detail. Loved the dogs. Loved the town the kids. I didn’t like the whole fitness empire. It wasn’t as real with a mother daughter duo. Like the PI. Loved the grandfather. I wasn’t her best work. I’ve enjoyed better.

Great Read. So so good! And kept me guessing! Loved this book!

Legacy. The underlying summary of this reading is probably profound

Legacy by Nora Roberts. As always a wonderful story! She has you into the story feeling everything. The characters are real and you want the story to continue because you know these people.

Has all the Nora Robert’s feels, don’t miss this one!. This newest book has all the “Nora Roberts feels”. A slow romance, which after much tribulations, blooms. There is of course, the angst, danger and mystery always included in Nora’s books, but the story also is warm, caring and heart wrenching in places. Add this to your top TBR list. Don’t miss it.

Magical and unique. A rare 5 on a scale of 1-5.

Legacy. Couldn’t put it down. Great story.

LEGACY. This is one of the most engaging stories I ever read. I read for pleasure. The characters were so vivid and believable. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors. The book is long but I never wanted it to end.

Legacy. Great book. I couldn’t stop reading until I completed the book.

Great read. Enjoyable and you won’t be disappointed . True Nora Roberts reading. Liked it very much

Awesome read. I love reading and Nora Roberts is hands down my favorite, but here lately life has gotten in the way and not so much reading going on. This is the first book in a long time and I LOVED it! Just an awesome read! Thanks Nora!!!

Great book very exciting and very well written! Thank you to the Author ❤️. Loved this book!! Very interesting and kept my interest!! Thank you for keeping the books coming.

Wonderful storytelling!. I enjoyed Legacy. A really great read. You did it again Nora.

Perfect Read For Everyone!!. Haven’t read Nora in a while and was very happy I bought the book. So good and her character buildup is creative and intuitive. I loved every chapter and how everything and every character flowed to make a wholesome team of friends who came together to fight evil …as if Raylan had written it for one of his comics. And being an animal rescuer myself, I told my husband, the fact that a rescue dog saved our heroine, was a sign this book was calling me into its depths from the beginning.

Ok. The characters lacked depth and the plot was a little contrived.

Great. Love it!!! Great reading, story line.

Nora Robert’s is a genius!. Nora Roberts can tell a story that brings you right into the setting. Her writing and descriptive powers had me sharing the scenes with the characters. When the characters were angry I was angry; when they were sad I was sad; and for the first time in a long time, the scenes of joy brought moisture to my eyes. A must read! A word of warning tho… Get a lot of rest and start this book fresh from that rest, because once started you won’t want to put it down until you finish it!

Legacy. A long, dull & very drawn out story for the ‘Big’ last chapter finale. Nora Roberts needs to reset her story telling.

Beautifully written. Nora Robert’s, as always, hit a home run. I buy every book ( including the JD Robb ones) on release day because I know it will be worth it. Legacy felt brand new ( unlike the last stand alone which felt like a rebranding of Rivers End) which was great.
