The Stepsisters by Susan Mallery Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery pens a love story of a different sort…a heartfelt tale of friendship between two women who used to be sisters.

Once upon a time, when her dad married Sage’s mom, Daisy was thrilled to get a bright and shiny new sister. But Sage was beautiful and popular, everything Daisy was not, and she made sure Daisy knew it.

Sage didn’t have Daisy’s smarts—she had to go back a grade to enroll in the fancy rich-kid school. So she used her popularity as a weapon, putting Daisy down to elevate herself. After the divorce, the stepsisters’ rivalry continued until the final, improbable straw: Daisy married Sage’s first love, and Sage fled California.

Eighteen years, two kids and one troubled marriage later, Daisy never expects—or wants—to see Sage again. But when the little sister they have in common needs them both, they put aside their differences to care for Cassidy. As long-buried truths are revealed, no one is more surprised than they when friendship blossoms.

Their fragile truce is threatened by one careless act that could have devastating consequences. They could turn their backs on each other again…or they could learn to forgive once and for all and finally become true sisters of the heart.

Don't miss New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery's heartwarming summer novel, The Summer Book Club, where conversations over a glass of wine turns into something much more in this journey of motherhood, friendship and love.

Excellent read.. Family turmoil and drama abound in this newest book. The coming of age for three women, all grown yet each still struggling with their childhood trauma and the constant circling of bad decisions and current situations makes this story excel with keeping the reader involved. One of my top reads this year. Do not miss this one.

A great book club pick. Susan mallery is spot on when writing about how complicated family relationships can be and how they can affect kids. This time she writes about the ins and out of stepsisters and divorce. Daisy’s life is turned upside down, newly separated with two kids, when her step sister Sage steps back into her life. Just when she thought Daisy couldn’t handle anything more, her father calls to ask her to take care of Cassidy, her other stepsister because of an accident she was in. Can life get any more complicated for Daisy? Will this accident bring the step sisters closer together and mend their relationship or will it further divide them? This book will have you turning the pages to find out. I loved the recipes this author included with the book club discussion guide. Perfect book to read with your book club while enjoying the Bel Air Cobb Salad and Berry Bellinis as suggested.

Truly a wonderful book of sisters. I found this book incredible. A departure from Susan’s normal romcoms, which I love, she weaves a story of hurt, heartbreak and redemption. I truly can relate to the story and Innoway it was hard for me to read, because my family and I are estranged. For reasons I do not know. I found it hopeful and truly remarkable. Sisters by marriage and blood, Daisy doesn’t understand why her half sister and stepsister hate her so much. The mother of two and sisters is very manipulative, selfish and very self-centered. But the youngest has a severe accident and is placed in the care of Daisy. Which causes all three to be under the same roof at times. And they come to discover that they are not who they think the others are. Stepsisters has its heart breaks and its triumphs. I highly recommend this book by Susan, you will not be disappointed.

Stepsisters. Great read for a sunny weekend!

A Wonderful Story. I could not put this book down.I loved the way that Mallory transitioned from one character to the next and kept you fully engaged in each of their lives. An unexpected twist in the story kept me guessing its outcome until the end of the story.

A really nice, entertaining read!. This book had a nice storyline and good character development. I enjoyed it very much - a nice chick-lit book.

A great tale of family told with humor and compassion. Told with the signature wit of the author as well as her understanding of and sympathy for her characters, this book delved deeply into the broken family relationships that seem unable to be repaired. Daisy is a trust fund baby with a big home, the undying love of her father and a job that she enjoys. Sage is beautiful, well traveled and has already looked for love in all the wrong places so she has returned home. And Cassidy, the adventurer, returns home unexpectedly and reluctantly when she has an accident on one of her adventures. All three stepsisters are thrown together into a book that reads like a movie. With plenty of romance and family drama, this book captured my imagination and my heart. I think that anyone who reads it will have a character with whom they can identify. For me, it was Daisy, the one who is misunderstood and who just wants love and acceptance in a world where judgment seems to come first. I liked all of the main characters, actually, even Cassidy who is the youngest but who also spouts gems of wisdom at the most unlikely moments. These siblings didn’t get along growing up, but they seem to bond together when another is threatened by anything and that just touched my heart. When Daisy’s husband Jordan leaves her, her world is upended and she seeks solace in a bottle but finds it in her sisters and their advice. Sage is stuck with her self-centered mother who has no love for Daisy and little love for Sage. She just wants to find a rich man and ride off into the sunset with him. Cassidy, meanwhile, is terrified of committing to any kind of relationship and needs to see for herself how families really work. She forms a bond with Daisy’s two children and helps Daisy in surprising ways. I loved the well-written story, with all of its many little side trips to explain the relationships. But mostly, I loved the humor in the story that was just what I needed. Yes, there was plenty of drama, too, but the humor made the story so much fun to read. The book was engaging and totally entertaining and I look forward someday to seeing a movie featuring this title and these characters. Fans of family, romance and a theme of forgiveness will definitely want to pick up this book and will enjoy its journey to restoration. A story about hurt, acceptance, and growth. Daisy, Sage, and Cassidy are 3 sisters who come from a very dysfunctional family from years past. They have never gotten over the hurt and rejection they had then but are thrown together due to an injury. This causes them to relive the past, learn from it, and grow from it. As always Susan Mallery draws you in to each of the characters. You become emotionally attached to them and find yourself cheering for the majority of them. Although I feel like there is always that one that you are silently rooting against (Joanne). A great read about hurt, learning from that heir, accepting the past, and moving forward.

Another hit!. Susan Mallery is one of my favorite writers, the flow to her writing just works for me. Her newest book The Stepsisters would make a good beach read if you’re lucky enough to be going or just a fun summer read! Classic Mallery, with family relationships and personal growth that gets wrapped up by the end of the book. At one point in the story I was so upset with two of the characters I wanted to stop reading but I was to involved with the story and had to see had it worked out. This one is worth the read:-)

A great read. Susan Mallery never fails to give us a book that is great to read on a lazy summer day, or a cool rainy day (or anything in between). The Stepsisters is a tale of modern, convoluted families and the struggles involved with navigating the murky waters of that life. So settle in to read about Daisy, Sage, and Cassidy

The Stepsisters. In the Stepsisters, Susan Mallery takes you on an emotional journey. After years of estrangement, Daisy and Sage confront their past, work thought their present, and in the end look forward to their future.

Great story!. The Stepsisters: A Novel was such a good read. I've never had sisters but I felt like their dynamic was realistic. Susan Mallery takes you on a journey of feels in her books and this one did not disappoint. I always feel like I learn something new about myself reading books by the author which I love! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Relationships. Very complicated relationships: sibling, spouses and dating.

Great beach read. Captivating and engaging about women and lives.

Stepsisters. Fun, thought provoking and memorable! Great way to discuss family dynamics..
