The Bachelor by Carly Phillips Book Summary

THE BACHELOR

The Chandler Brothers from New York Times Bestselling Author Carly Phillips are back!

He’s got wanderlust and no intention of settling down.

She’s home to stay and has put her bad boy ex in her rearview mirror.

After spending his life abroad, embracing his freedom at every turn as a foreign correspondent, Roman Chandler finds himself the brother nominated to deal with his ailing mother’s matchmaking shenanigans. Thanks to a coin toss, he needs to find someone to marry and fast. It shouldn’t be that hard in sleepy Yorkshire Falls where women fall over themselves to hook a Chandler man.

But Roman only wants the one woman who got away.

Charlotte Bronson is back home to put down roots and get her lingerie business off the ground. She’s not interested in her past or a man that chose to chase breaking news stories to the far corners of the earth over her. No matter how good they used to be or how combustible their chemistry still burns.

It’s up to Roman to convince Charlotte he’s a changed man and here to stay.

In honor of THE BACHELOR’s 20th Anniversary all three books have been updated and will be reissued with gorgeous NEW covers with the same content but modernized for your reading pleasure. The BACHELOR was the first book that Kelly Ripa chose for her Reading with Ripa Bookclub.

Sweet story. This was such a sweet romance, with some hot moments. Roman has traveled far and wide covering hot topics. Charlotte went to New York in order to become a fashion designer and come home and open her own shop. These two are so different and yet deep down they are the same. They don't want to repeat their parents' mistakes. The one thing I did not like about Charlotte was at times she acted like a petulant child. Her beef with her father is based on misinformation yet she is unwilling to even talk to him. Roman seems too willing to give up his dreams to make Charlotte happy and that kind of bothered me. But I think deep down, they are meant for each other. She really wants to travel and see the world and who better to do it with than someone who has been there and can show her the hidden treasures. I hope they take advantage of their time and go many places. As for Raina, she needs a better hobby than matchmaking. And what's up with her and good Doctor. Hopefully we will see more of them and see how their relationship progresses.

Stupid. This book and the plot are ridiculous and honesty stupid not to mention sexist. Skip this one.

First book is great!. This book was my first Carly book! It’s still just as good! Roman and his brothers make a plan to get married and he’s up first. Charlotte is the one who got away. Now it time for the Chandler boys to start settling down. Stay for all three books! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Bachelor. I thought the book started out a little slow, but then moved along better. I enjoyed the witty banter & would recommend reading it.

Great reread. This is one of my favorite all time books. I read this book first when it was picked for kelly Ripas book club and I got addicted to all of Carly Phillips books. I have read every book from her but this is still my favorite. Roman and Charlotte are a great coup,e you can’t help but root for. They both try to put family first and live their life to make them happy. Second chances are alway a good trope but this one I loved because it just seems so real. I loved getting to meet Raina and of course Rick and Chase and Love seeing their stories in the next books in this series. I love this series and have reread and listened to many times.

Pretty good. Not a true 5, but a definite 4.5. I enjoyed that it was a complete story in that all the loose ends were tied up and not in a sudden hard to explain rush. Good story and decent characters. My main complaint is the hero came across as a stalker at first and not just an “alpha male”.

Entertaining. 4.5 Stars for The Bachelor ( Chandler Brothers, #1) Roman Chandler has spent his life doing what he wants, he has travelled the world as a foreign correspondent and is only home now because his mother has had a bad turn, a heart scare that has her sons rallying around to do what she wants and needs. What none of these confirmed bachelors expected was their mum to say she desperately wants grandchildren...... Like all good sons, they decide one of them needs to settle down and produce the grandchild...... Roman left a girl behind when he set off for distant places and now he is back in town he finds his feelings for Charlotte Branson rising to the surface but can he convince her to give him another chance, can he convince her he is a changed man ..... This book ticked all my boxes, i laughed and I swooned, I fell hard and fast for the Chandler brothers and I adored the strong, sassy Charlotte and what can I say about the meddling mum apart from read this book to find out just how far her matchmaking shenanigans will go. I love small town romance and seconded chance at love so this hook was a win, win for me . I can’t wait for my next visit to Yorkshire Falls because the residents there sure know how to bring a smile to my face. I guess all I need to say is please one click this gem.

Entertaining. I was so excited when I learnt that Carly Phillips was updating and re -publishing her Chandler Brothers series. There are three brothers, Chase, Rick and Roman and this book is Roman and Charlotte’s story. Returning home when their mother is rushed to hospital the brothers’ come up with a plan to make their mother Raina happy. After a toss of the coin, it is determined that Roman needs to find a woman and marry ASAP. Roman is a globe trotting foreign corespondent and Charlotte is the one who got away. This is a great second chance at love story that ticked boxes for me. Roman believes he can get married and still roam the globe, while the last thing Charlotte wants is a husband like her father who was away more than he was home. Returning home to Yorkshire Falls, Charlotte knows it is time to settle down and concentrate on her lingerie business. Their ideas for the future could not be more different and yet the attraction and chemistry that sizzles between Roman and Charlotte is too hard to ignore. Raina, the matriarch of the Chandler family was a hoot, she knows how to manipulate her sons (in a good way) and is determined to see them settle down and give her the grandchildren she desires. I have to say she had me laughing at times with her plans and manipulations. As I have come to expect from a Carly Phillips book, The Bachelor was well written and she soon had me hooked on the story she wove. It was a passionate, steamy, witty that I thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot wait to read the next brother’s story.

Juvenile. The theme and storylines are juvenile. Very disappointing.

A Must Read!!. I can see why Kelly Ripa had it on her “Ripa Bookclub” list! Even though written 20 years ago, it still vibrates with fabulous characters, an engaging story line, scorching love scenes and absolute “laugh out loud” by-play. Loved Roman and Charlotte’s second chance at Love! A Must Read!!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3.25stars-family, friendships, secrets and lies. 3.25 stars-THE BACHELOR is the first instalment in Carly Phillip’s contemporary, adult THE CHANDLER BROTHERS erotic, romance series. This is journalist and foreign correspondent Roman Chandler, and lingerie boutique owner Charlotte Bronson’s story line. NOTE: THE BACHELOR is the 20th anniversary re-release of the 2002 like titled book with an updated cover and content. Told from third person perspectives including Roman and Charlotte, THE BACHELOR follows several paths including the second chance relationship between foreign correspondent Roman Chandler, and lingerie boutique owner Charlotte Bronson. Ten years earlier Roman Chandler broke Charlotte Bronson’s heart, and in the ensuing time Roman travelled the world where the opportunity called. A health scare for his mother brought Roman home to Yorkshire Falls, and along with his brothers Rick and Chase, tossed a coin to see who would honour his mother’s wishes by getting married and having a child. Losing the toss, Roman knew of only one woman that quite possibly would be acceptable to going it alone, as Roman had no plans of remaining in Yorkshire Falls after doing his duty to father a child. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Charlotte and Roman, and the fall-out when the truth is revealed. Charlotte Bronson knows rejection first hand-not only from the man who has walked back into her life, but from the father who never stayed longer than a few days at a time. Falling for Roman was the easy part, losing her heart was about to destroy her once again. Meanwhile, someone in the town of Yorkshire Falls is breaking and entering, stealing lingerie from clients who have shopped at Charlotte’s store. When the finger is pointed at our story line hero, Roman struggles in the face of sins of the past, but none more so, than the sin he is about to commit against the woman he loves. The relationship between Charlotte and Roman is one of second chances; a rekindling romance predicated upon the toss of a coin in which Roman is the loser in more ways than one. Having no intention of staying in Yorkshire Falls, our hero has plans to seduce Charlotte Bronson, never intending to stick around for the long haul. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text but I did not feel any palpable sexual energy or attraction between our leading couple. Ten years of heart break, and our heroine was ready and willing within a few hours of Roman’s return. Roman was there to do a job, and continued to believe he would walk away, once again. There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Roman’s brothers Chases and Rick, as well as their widowed mother Raina; Charlotte’s parents Russell and Annie, and her co-worker and best friend Beth Hansen; and several townies including Samson Humphrey, Dr. Eric Fallon; Dr. Leslie Gaines. THE BACHELOR is a story of family, friendships, secrets and lies; a story of opportunity, manipulation (on so many levels) , forgiveness and love. An interesting premise with a number of inconsiderate, manipulative and reckless characters, THE BACHELOR was a bit of a struggle for this voracious reader.
