Great!!!. Loved this book. Grips you from the beginning.

Enjoyed the Thriller. Was on the edge of my seat, so to speak, reading the book and throughly enjoyed the thriller. Would have given five stars except for what I see as a problem. Let me say first I am no fan of the former president. However, it seems like the book takes too many potshots at him, even though I understand this is a work of fiction and some of what is said about him meets the mark. Ironically it’s the current president who pulled out of Afghanistan willy nilly. I will look forward to another collaboration, hopefully with even-handedness towards political opponents and allies.

Edge of my seat. What a wonderful and timely book. Hits a little too close to reality. Maybe we would be best served if people who buy into conspiracy theories read this book. The world needs to come together in peace and begin to be more tolerant of people. Far right and far left don’t achieve but destroy. Great. Read. Couldn’t put it down. And from a mans view, it was great to read about strong female leads. I’m always learning. Thank you.

Great story. There are so many characters in this book I found it a bit hard to follow at first and it was a bit slow moving at times. But I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this type of story (Which I do)

Chilling. I really hadn’t expected such a good book although both writers are excellent. It’s very frightening to think this could become reality in today’s world. Highly recommend. Ignore all the trumper comments here. They wouldn’t read this book in reality.

Started off interesting…. …but was not at all thrilling. More predictable than I liked.

State of Terror. I’ll look for it in all the thrift stores, they always have a good supply of her books, most never cracked open. Can’t think of any other names, so just cancel.

State of Terror. Loved it at the beginning, then it got a little bogged down with all the middle eastern names, the different direction of the plot and characters. So, I didn’t love it. And towards the end it gets confusing again with the introduction of new people and different story lines. Thought former President Dunn was a very funny character.

Delivers Thrills. Couldn’t put it down! I liked the action, the flow, even if sometimes the characters were hard to keep straight. It all came together in the end in a very satisfying way. Reminded me of a Tom Clancy novel.

Just why. Love Louise Penny. Her books are beautiful, but will never read any again, not after this Collaboration. Why she wanted to team up with this loser I will never know.

President Hilary Clinton, my hero!. What a shame her presidential election was stolen by a fat orange con man, totally incapable of running our democratic country. He lost the Senate, the House and the Presidency…he’s simply a loser! And he wants to come back as a dictator! NEVER!

Fascinating. Bought the audiobook version.....can't help feeling that some of the characters are real people veiled behind fictional names. An inside look at the machinations of government all wrapped up as a mystery. Interesting.......

Save your money. To call this garbage would be an insult to garbage

A pain of a book to finish. I give it a 3 stars because I know writing a book is extremely hard. This book was a yawn to me, it is written for the masses and definitely not a book that will be talked about next year. The language is simple, the plot is surreal, and I did not enjoy reading it. The book was bland.

Highly recommend.. I’m not usually an international thriller reader, but this was superb. Lots of twists and funny (scary?) parallels to current politics.

A perfect thriller. I couldn’t put this down . Everything a reader needs to feed our thirsty minds of a great book. Thank you!

A thought provoking thriller!. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I have great respect for both of these women not only as authors but also for their inspiration and insight into life as we are experiencing it in 2022. A truly entertaining and reflective reading adventure!

WOW. Could not put it down. Perfect balance of character development and fast paced action. Kept me on my toes and put me in the room at the same time. Amazingly prescient to what we face today. The book feels almost too plausible. Excellent writing and that plot twist- wow. Wow. Wow. A simile walks into a bar….

Suspenseful and Intelligently Written. Loved getting a behind the scene peek into the political machinations of an administration while being entertained by a plot filled with twists and intelligent writing. A plot that’s realistic enough to make it scarier than any horror story.

State of Terror. I liked the characters and the interweaving of the two authors’ key characters. But the ending was kind of pat and corny.

A Real Page Turner. This was a page turner from the very beginning. I hope it’s the first in a series. Clearly, HIllary used her SecState experience and her decades of beltway politics in creating Ellen, the main character. I also LOVED the many (accurate) nuanced references to “the previous administration”. I loved this book!

Just…sigh. No idea how this book has positive reviews. Very predictable, felt like I had to force myself to even get 1/2 way. I decided to pick it back up and give it a 2nd chance, maybe it started off rough and has a better ending? Nope. Don’t bother.

Yawn. More boring than watching a pot boil. Bless her heart, she just can’t let it go. Comes across like the bitter old head that she’s become. Not a good look Killary, do better.

What a book. Fabulous and thrilling

A captivating political thriller!. From began to end it is constant trust and turns of the plot. So entertaining. The characters feel so real! It may just be me but it feels as though Mrs. Clinton took some inspiration from a great tv show, Madam Secretary, and wrote and awesome book!

What Could Have Been!. It could have been a good read but Hillary’s need to re hash her election loss was not necessary. Bill and James have written two really good thrillers without dragging in old baggage.

Fantastic Audiobook!!. Enjoyed the audiobook so much, I found myself not wanting to get out of the car. Great narrating by Joan Allen. Can’t decide if she should play Ellen or Betsy in the movie. This story would make a great movie.

Worst book I’ve read in a long time.. Very boring due to the fact that it was so repetitive. Everyone said everything a dozen times or more. I hate reading the same thing over and over.

USA. I thought the book was great and sorry to say really tragic in the sense that America is under attack from within. I wonder what the America Right would say as they seem to be carrying out some of the most damaging elements in this story.

It could happen. Far better than I thought it would be. I love L Penny’s books but wasn’t sure about this one. I’m glad it got it ! The story of what can happen as our sensible conservatives movie right, the right moves far right, the far right to alt right and the consequences of ‘patriots’ becoming radicalized - terrifying and not at all far fetched. Truly terrifying.

The Perfect Pair. Only Penny and Clinton could deliver this political thriller that combined realistic characters that are so relatable with a chilling thriller that warns of what is ahead if we don’t work together as nations and within our nations to build a better world. It is a cautionary tale.

Great fictional story for our times. Reads well.

Relentless page turner. Just finished at 3:35 am! Quite a journey! Twisting turning plot, three dimensional characters, usually dry details of government infrastructure jumped right off the page and left me wanting more, enjoyed the references to and inclusion of Gamache and Three Pines… Hoping that other collaborations may be possible. I have read all of Louise Penny’ novels and certainly looking forward to more…

I just could not put it down. The story is fast paced, intriguing,with lots of plots and twists. It is the kind of book you keep on reading until 4 o’clock in the morning because it is that good

A roller-coaster of a ride. As a lifelong fan of Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Armand Gamache crime series, I couldn’t imagine what would be the result of her writing partnership with Hilary Clinton. The result? An extraordinary compelling political thriller: I loved the seamless melding of the two authors’ experience and knowledge; the power and manipulations of the underestimated Secretary of State Ellen Adams; the central characters’ backstories; the at times humorous characterization of the former U.S. President (fiction or fact?); and the smooth transition to Three Pines, which provided relief from the relentless terror and threatened annihilation. The plot is implausible. Or is it? An undercurrent flows throughout, begging the question: Are we all heading toward, or are we already in, a State of Terror?

Brilliant suspense; scathing commentary. Read this right now while the recent change in administration still feels refreshingly recent. Penny and Clinton have penned an incredibly complex blend of suspense, political intrigue and commentary on a divided America.

Oh my!. This book was riveting and difficult to put down. I want another collaboration to read as soon as is possible!
