MY GODS!. gosh i wish these books were longer. i love the way jennifer picks the next book up LITERALLY right where the last one stops. no time skips, no rehashing and it’s so seamless. the story was great. answered a few question i had from FBAA and im so invested in nyktos’ back story. it was also very relatable to me right now as my lover and i aren’t, you know? and it felt good to see that dynamic play out REALISTICALLY. ITS JUST SO REAL

10 stars.. Favorite book I’ve ever read. I love Jennifer L Armentrout. I started with the Blood and Ash series then followed with this one and I just fell in love with Daddy Nyktos.

A before Poppy and Castile. I am in love with Sera an Ash as much as I love Poppy and Cass. I was on the edge of my seat this whole book. The minute I finished I immediately bought the other two books an I can’t wait to dive in. I 1000% recommend this book and series.

First review Second Read. I’ve read this twice. I really enjoy JLAs writing. Love her other series too. I enjoy seeing how this all plays out in her head. Can’t wait to see what happens next!!

i’ve never loved a book so much. YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!!! i haven’t been able to put this book down for the past 48 hours. There was not a single moment or scene when i thought “ehh that’s not written great” not one time i am absolutely in love with these characters and the plot is so beyond wonderful that with every surprise i was in awe such a well written book and i am def going to be recommending to any and everyone

Casteel and Poppy. I loved this book!! But I NEED more Cas and Poppy!!!!!! We didn’t get to see Cas give Poppy that ‘biggest diamond ring’ and I want to see them in their King and Queen roles. How they manage the two kingdoms…Atlantia and Solis!

Doesn’t disappoint. I have yet to be disappointed in something JLA writes. This is a wonderful off shoot of the From Blood and Ash series. I love how stubborn and independent yet still vulnerable Sera is. And Nyktos is amazing. He’s tough and possessive but caring and sweet and a great ruler. I gave 4.5 stars only because a little of the details (especially at the end) get a little confusing. I’m holding faith that as the series goes on stuff gets a little more clear so I’m not worried. Again 100% suggest this book but beware of cliffhangers.

Stunning!. Stunning! I devoured this and enjoyed every word. I loved being back in the FBAA world and getting a better understanding of the ascension and how it all started. The secondary characters surrounding Nyktos and Sera were all amazing in their own ways, and I loved the banter between all of them. This had incredible chemistry, jaw dropping moments, and an underlying tenderness between the two MCs that made my heart ache. I know there’s been a lot of mixed reviews, but I thought this was beautifully done.

I am already in love with this series❣️. A phenomenal continuation after completing the Blood and Ash Series!!! 🥰💞📖

Loved it. A Shadow in the Ember is the first book in The Flesh and Fire series and takes place in the Blood and Ash universe. These series are best read in publication order so this story is best read after The Crown of Gilded Bones the third book in the Blood and Ash series. Oh my gosh my mind is just blown by this story. When I finally figured out whose these characters are and how they relate to the Blood and Ash series I was just stunned speechless. This story was just brilliantly done and I can’t wait for everyone to see these characters come alive.

New favorite!. Loved Blood and Ash series, but Sera and Ash in the Flesh and Fire series definitely resonate on a different level! Absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for more! Biting at the bit for book 2

Didn’t expect…. I did not expect to like this book and only picked it up because I heard it gave hints to The war of two Queens. I am SOoOOo glad I did. I may not understand how certain things will tie in, but I devoured this book and am excited to see how it all meshes together. I love love love these characters just as much and Poppy and Cas. I am really eager for this prequel series (fingers crossed that it will be a thing)

Awesome. I could kick myself, for some reason I thought I’d read this book since I have read almost all of this authors books I could find. So I kept skipping over it until I realized last night that it didn’t say “read” but had a price to purchase. I started it this morning and it’s going on the evening and I can’t put it down.

Loved it. Hope there will be a book 2 of this series or at least a continuation! Loved the characters and how they tie into the blood and ash world. Read after the 3 book in the series. This has lead me to even more questions that I can’t wait to be revealed!

confusing. i need a family tree and world building that isn’t executed through an exposition q&a every other chapter to make it through the rest of this terrible terrible series.

LOVE THIS!. I fell in love with Sera and Ash even more than I did Cas and Poppy which is saying a lot. I love the intensity of Ash and how different he is with Sera. I couldn’t put this book down and finished in over the weekend. Read all day and all night! I CANNOT wait until Fall for the next one.

Chills all over!!. Maybe the best romance novel I’ve ever read!!!! The last half of the book is even better. The last 5 chapters had me GLUED to my phone. Couldn’t put it down. Finished it in 3 days. Absolutely amazing wonderful beautiful story that connects so many dots.

Great prequel!. Fell in love with Cas and Poppy…wasn’t sure how I’d feel about Sera and Ash but needless to say…I couldn’t put this book down. It makes me want to go back and re-read the other series because so much more information is laid out in this one that I’m having to really rack my brain to remember the details from prior. I’m going to have a hard time waiting till fall 2022 for the next installment!!!

Almost, but not quite.. I really enjoyed the storyline, if you’ve read the blood and ash series it starts connecting some of the dots. But it felt rushed. I can see where she was trying to go with the the characters but she missed the target. I finished it simply because I thought it’d make the rest of the blood and ash books more interesting. I hope the second book is better. Hope this helped.

Nice follow up to poppy and casteel!. So ready for the next book! Loving how everything is coming together and reading about the characters years before poppys time.

This book omg. I started reading this book without realising it was a prequel to a series and GOD I’m so sad it’s over and there’s not gonna be a follow on cause this is one of the best books I’ve read in a while! The plot was constantly thickening (I didn’t think it was even possible) and every character from our main ones to our loveable supporting characters were all amazingly captured! It truly was amazing, I loved that it was sexy without being rammed down your throat but it held that sexy suspense all throughout the pages. Tension was constantly being built and that ending !!! THE ENDING !! I’m just so heartbroken that there isn’t MORE cause it definitely felt like it was leading to something else and now I am desperate to know what happens next! Really loved Ash and Sera and the way they maintained this banter that felt so easy and natural! Can there be a sequel to a prequel ?? Please ?? I wish I could give it more than 5 stars :(

This should have come first. Loved this book! So much better than all of her other books and I was not expecting the writing, plot and pace to be as terrific as it was. A great surprise and a treasure to find.

A shadow in the ember. This book is the first in the series. It is a prequel to the Blood and Ash series. It was good to get back into this world again after finishing off the other books. There is lots of familiar people and events that had me constantly trying to remember the details I had already learnt to piece everything together. I like Sera and Ash and their feisty back and forth. She never seems to be able to conform to the perfect, subservient woman she is meant to be. I will definitely be reading the second book when it comes out later this year. Single POV, low/med spice, 18+

JLA can do no wrong. The From Blood and Ash series was honestly my favourite series but I’m 100% hooked on Sera and Nyktos’ story. This book was amazing and so much fun. Love this author and all these characters.
