The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews Book Summary

From Mary Kay Andrews, the New York Times bestselling author of Hello, Summer, comes a novella celebrating the magic of Christmas and second chances in The Santa Suit.

When newly-divorced Ivy Perkins buys an old farmhouse sight unseen, she is definitely looking for a change in her life. The Four Roses, as the farmhouse is called, is a labor of love—but Ivy didn't bargain on just how much labor. The previous family left so much furniture and so much junk, that it's a full-time job sorting through all of it.

At the top of a closet, Ivy finds an old Santa suit—beautifully made and decades old. In the pocket of a suit she finds a note written in a childish hand: it's from a little girl who has one Christmas wish, and that is for her father to return home from the war. This discovery sets Ivy off on a mission. Who wrote the note? Did the man ever come home? What mysteries did the Rose family hold?

Ivy's quest brings her into the community, at a time when all she wanted to do was be left alone and nurse her wounds. But the magic of Christmas makes miracles happen, and Ivy just might find more than she ever thought possible: a welcoming town, a family reunited, a mystery solved, and a second chance at love.

Different but still good. I enjoy this author’s more witty books but this one was still cute.

Great Holiday Story!. I loved this story so much! Just what I wanted to read this month. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Just the book I needed. After another year living in a pandemic, this book was a much needed feel good read. As comforting as a cup of hot cocoa.

The Santa Suit.. A good read for the holiday. Miracle’s do happen .

The Santa Suit = Christmas Spirit. Loved this little story! Could not put it down! It’s the perfect way to help get in the spirit of Christmas…even if it is a little early!

THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS!. Delightful new release from Mary Kay Andrews showing displaying the Magic of Christmas! Newly divorced Ivy moves into a run down fixer upper farmhouse. After a series of mishaps, she finds the blessing in “inheriting” all the leftovers in the home as well - furniture, appliances, clothing, tools, etc. and even some personal items such as family photo albums. While cleaning out the top of a closet, she finds a vintage Santa Suit still in remarkable condition! As she is lifting it out of the box, she discovers a child’s Christmas Wish that was stuffed in the pocket. Ivy is touched by the simple request and decides to try and find out the rest of the story behind the Wish. When Ivy moved to town, she knew no one. She wasn’t even interested in making friends. As she involves herself with solving the ggj of the Christmas Wish, she meets new friends and in doing so, reconnects old friends and a family who have lost contact. As the town enjoys its Christmas festival, Ivy has a few secrets of her own planned to bring smiles to her new friends’ faces. Ivy realizes, because of the Magic of Christmas, her new life is turning out far better than she could have ever imagined! She has new romance in her life, too! I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without any influence.

Heartwarming Christmas Novella. The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews is a delightful, heartwarming story about family, love, loss, and determination. It’s a novella, but it’s packed with great characters, a lovely small town, and a bit of mystery and romance. Ivy Perkins is determined to start over. After a divorce, and leaving her job, she buys an old farmhouse named the Four Roses sight unseen. When she arrives at the farmhouse she’s dismayed to realize that it’s much more of a fixer-upper than she was lead to believe by the photos. However, also at the farmhouse to greet her is the handsome realtor Ezra. Ivy finds an old, but, still functional Santa Suit in one of the closets in her new home. She finds out that the previous owners used to play Santa and Mrs. Claus at many events in the town and around. Inside the pocket of the suit, she finds a note, written by a little girl asking if Santa can bring her father home from the war. This novella has everything you’d expect in a full-length book and I enjoyed it very much. The farmhouse was exquisitely described, and I just want to move into Four Roses despite all the work it needs. Both Ivy and Ezra were well-developed characters, and I loved them both and thought they were perfect for each other. It didn’t take them long to figure that out too, but, it is a novella. Although a Christmas book, it’s also about connections, and friendships, and love. I didn’t feel like I was hit over the head with Christmas as I have in other Christmas books. This one had just the right amount of Christmas magic in it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a holiday romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Fun. Good one , very enjoyable Always love her work Lighthearted and fun

Feel Good Quick Read. This was a great feel good read about finding oneself over again. I enjoyed the plot and learning about the characters. I gave it 4 starts because, although the back story of the main character was a bit darker, the whole story just seemed TOO unrealistically happy. I loved the ending though and it was an awesome break from the thrillers I usually read.

A heartwarming read. This is Mary Kay Andrews first holiday novel! I could see this book being made into a Hallmark movie! After Ivy’s divorce, she decides to move from big city to small town life, in order to start over in a place where no one knows her. Ivy buys a farmhouse online and unseen, so when she shows up, it’s in more disrepair than advertised and it has not been cleaned out. In the process of cleaning it out, she finds a trunk that has a Santa suit and old children’s letter’s addressed to Santa. Will she uncover the mystery surrounding it? Will she be able to adjust to small town life? As the story unfolds, this heartwarming book will keep you entertained by all of Ivy’s misfortunes turned around by the help of the new community where she is supported and loved. I loved how Mary Kay Andrews added in the element of connecting the past to present! Also including a mystery, but this time it’s surrounding a Santa suit instead of a murder! This holiday book checks all the boxes for a good holiday read!

The spirit of Christmas!. A beautiful feel good Christmas story. I see this being made into a movie. Ivy has decided to take a leap of faith after her divorce, she purchased a rundown small farm the Four Roses Farm. Her realtor Ezra has gone over the normal duties of a realtor. He has come to Ivy rescue a few times when things went wrong at her place. Ivy getting to know her new town made some friends quickly, but she also finds a child’s Christmas letter to Santa. This starts a mystery waiting to be solved. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.

A book to make you believe.. A great book for re-engaging the spirit of Christmas
