The Hunt by Faye Kellerman Book Summary

Detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus return to Los Angeles when a kidnapping hits close to home—in this breathtaking new thriller from New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman.

Peter and his partner, Detective Tyler McAdams, are thrown into an unsolved case and propelled into action when a body is found in the very woods where a man previously went missing in upstate New York.

But that’s not the only crisis that Peter has to deal with.

Teresa McLaughlin, the biological mother of Peter and his wife Rina’s foster son, Gabe, has fled to Los Angeles with her two children in tow, hoping to avoid a court injunction amid a messy divorce. But LA is no escape from her problems—she is found by ruthless men and beaten mercilessly. When she wakes, barely conscious, Teresa discovers that both of her children are gone and frantically calls Gabe for help.

With his mother on the verge of death, Gabe contacts Peter and Rina, as well as his biological father, the notorious Christopher Donatti, a former hit man from a known criminal family who’s now a millionaire in Nevada. By bringing Donatti into the fray, Gabe, Peter, and Rina know they have made a deal with the devil—but they may not be able to recover the kids without him.

As these unlikely allies rally to find the kidnappers before things end tragically, they race headlong toward an explosive confrontation from which no one will emerge unscathed...

I love this Series but…. I felt that the main Decker/Lazarus plot that carried over from the previous book was boring. No real surprises. Obvious that Kellerman was no longer interested in the pair so many of us have long loved. I always enjoyed the Jewish foods and preparations but in this book Peter just ate many, many bagels. The other plot was a bit odd. It had to be at least somewhat in the vain it was given that it was Chris Donnati. It badly needed the Editor. So repetitive in discussing the abusive situations Terry was put in. It shouldn’t have tried so hard to make excuses for it. I won’t ruin the ending, but I will say it was totally unnecessary and I feel truly the wrong writing/editing choice. That said I really hope the Series will not be ended. I guess if Kellerman’s new book is very popular that is likely.

Really bad. I’ve been a Faye Kellerman fan since the Ritual Bath. I’m supremely disappointed in this book. The prose is repetitive, the dialog drags, and the ending was not surprising. The sex and violence was completely unnecessary. Skip it, or wait until it’s in the library. No need to spend any money on it.

Not the end please. I hope this isn’t the last book in this series. Please keep writing ❤️

A bit weird. What happened to this series. Very disappointing in so many ways!

Unbelievable!. What a book! Some of the sex was too graphic but I also understand why it was needed to explain the relationship between Terry and Chris. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the Decker family!

Great Rina and Decker. Great Rina and Decker book. Loved that the infamous Chris is back on. But ….. is it the end of Decker as a detective???? Tell me I am wrong

was truly terrible. Nothing redeeming at all. Sorry.. Kathy Cook

The hunt by Faye kellerman. I found the extensive sadistic sexual scenes tiresome and distasteful. Thankfully those characters are gone. I did not enjoy this book.

To little too late. Although the book finally combines into one book in the last few chapters, I found it to be very disjointed with too many unanswered issues.

Out with a whimper. What was once a great series strikes out in its last installment. Kellerman's last few books have been mediocre. This one is just plain bad. Two parallel stories, neither of which are interesting. Even the numerous pages of raunchy, violent sex is yawn inducing. A sad end to a series that once was great.

Very disappointed in this book. I did not enjoy this book. There were two story lines: Terry and Chris and also Peter and Tyler, still working on the case from the last book. The Terry/Chris story ended as you might expect-no surprise there. Constant rehashing of what might have happened and then a completely anti-climatic resolution to the murder from the last book was annoying, to say the least. Not even remotely up to Kellerman’s usual read. So disappointing.

Great read. Excellent couldn’t stop reading this book
