In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through eighty-seven of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances—a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection.
Over the past two decades, Brown’s extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as on Brown’s singular skills as a storyteller, to show us how accurately naming an experience doesn’t give the experience more power—it gives us the power of understanding, meaning, and choice.
Brown shares, “I want this book to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can travel anywhere and never fear losing ourselves.”

If you have kids, please read this one.. Might be the most helpful book I have ever read- and I’ve read a lot. I keep referring back to her named feelings for the remedies. If I’d learned how to properly deal with my feelings like this before now (I’m 50) I know my relationships would have been better and maybe I wouldn’t be alone. Until now the only tools I had were to stuff the emotions down (like Spock) or run away. Thank God for you, Brene.
Interesting but Lacking. Somewhat surprised by the content and the style of writing. Comes across as a text book or reading material for academia. Not sure it’s applicable to business or corporate leadership. It’s a stretch to make that connection …. Found a few nuggets. Definitely not what I expected for sure.
Eye-opening and engaging read. This book opened my eyes to a more accurate understanding of emotions, as well as naming and painting pictures of once I had not out my finger on. It helps create a more varied and eloquent vocabulary for my inner experience and my observations of others.
Goosebumps. Having read most all of Berene’s work leading up to this one, it’s incredible to see how (just like us), her learnings and assumptions twist and turn and grow and develop and blossom into something beautiful over all this time. Atlas of the Heart puts into words what we feel and know (or have no idea we know) in such a way that you go back and read one of her passages again and again and think, “WOW- if that isn’t hitting the nail dead on the head”…… Brene Brown, thank you.
Huge disappointment!. This book is a reference of emotions and all 87 emotions as Brene Brown takes you on the journey of defining all 87. It’s based on research and I give her a lot of accolades for the research completed to develop this book however, data is not a real life human being and so it is not going to be a one size fits all type of life. Extremely disappointed!
Awesome read. Highly recommend. Being able to give language to feelings is such gift to the world.
It feels like I just finished an amazing journey. The words, the language This book is worth every time and money spent on it

Eye opening. Emotions that are familiar to us but remains abstract are explained and leads to so much growth and epiphany.
Atlas of the heart. I just loved everything on it. It is a feel good book with many opportunities for us to self assess our feelings and behaviours. I felt very human reading it and made piece with myself in many aspects of my life in a way that made me understand my feelings and other peoples perspectives.
