Two Nights in Lisbon by Chris Pavone Book Summary

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND NATIONAL BESTSELLER.
"There’s no such thing as a book you can’t put down, but this one was close." —Stephen King
"Smart suspense at its very best." —John Grisham

Tautly wound and expertly crafted, Two Nights in Lisbon is a riveting thriller about a woman under pressure, and how far she will go when everything is on the line.

You think you know a person . . .

Ariel Pryce wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong.

She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can’t fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new—much younger—husband?

The clock is ticking. Ariel is increasingly frustrated and desperate, running out of time, and the one person in the world who can help is the one person she least wants to ask.

With sparkling prose and razor-sharp insights, bestselling author Chris Pavone delivers a stunning and sophisticated international thriller that will linger long after the surprising final page.

A Page Turner Mystery. Like any great mystery should, it keeps you guessing and entertained. Plenty of surprises and well written.

Two Nights in Lisbon. This is a terrific mystery and thriller. The twists and turns were surprisingly effective. The characters were interesting and well developed. The final chapters were true page turners. I thank the author for writing such an unusual revenge tale. Many new spin-off tales are hinted at by the characters and plot.

Not interested. Haven’t read it and won’t. Really tired of woke sheep. I want to be entertained when I read. If You don’t entertain me and you go out of your way to offend part of your customers, you don’t get my money.

Political Rubbish!. Great read, but saddened to be exposed to “Wokeness” of a stupid level! Farmers tending to an orchard is exploiting nature? Really? Further do you know if you do not hunt an overpopulation of deer, alligator, coyotes etc… it will destroy the ecological balance of nature? Shame on the publisher’s of this book for being part of the big lie. Maybe you should read a book😂 “Detective Carolina Santos looks around the wood-paneled walls hung with gilt-framed oil paintings: a hunting scene, a whaling boat in action, farmers tending an orchard. All pictures of men in the process of exploiting the earth. She sighs at the obviousness of it.”

New Author. I did not know what to expect from Chris Pavone. Immediately I was drawn into the plot. This books holds your attention until the very end. One of the better books I have read this year.

Another Author Gets Political. I actually really liked the story. I could of done without the not so subtle bashing of conservatives. It’s apparent Chris has a strong distain for America which explains why he lived in Europe for a while. I will not be reading anymore of his books. When authors get political the offend 50% of their audience.

Ho Hum. The book was really good in places but I didn’t like the main character Ariel and so it didn’t really resonate with me like his other books. It felt really woke in places, railing on people who have succeeded in their life financially making them seem shallow…there was definitely a socialist feel to the book. In all levels of society, you have amazingly good people then all the rest by degrees. I also didn’t like that Ariel kept something from her first husband that he deserved to know. She came off at the end looking very selfish for a lot of different reasons.

Good summer read. I read this book in 3 days. Clever story. If you like fast paced mysteries you’ll enjoy it.

What is happening with Chris Pavone?. I have bought, read and enjoyed all four of Chris’ prior novella. This book is so different and disappointing- his main character is the subject of multiple sexual abuses and he lectures readers about (partial list) toxic masculinity, the power of elites in the US, climate change, bureaucratic incompetence, sexism, ageism and abuse of technology! The whole tone is so negative and different from his prior books. I am (reluctantly) going to pass on Chris’ future offerings.

Slow Burn. Slow burn, which is my favorite type of read. Once it picks up the pace, it doesn’t let up. Two Nights in Lisbon is my first Chris Pavone book, & what an introduction. So good.

Thank god the setting was good.. At last, a story about how miserably hard it is to be a beautiful woman. Otherwise, a dull story supported by a cast of 2D stereotypes, that’s partially redeemed by a detailed depiction of Lisbon.

Not sure what the excitement is about. I picked this book because “it’s a page turner”. And now I am struggling through 100 pages and have decided not to torture myself. I will be donating this book to our building library hoping someone else might find it more interesting. Have it three stars (instead of two) thinking that maybe it gets better.

Two Nights in Lisbon. A dishonest “thriller” that is not worth your time. Dishonest in the sense that key information is withheld, but not by trickery or sleight of hand but just lying about what is happening.

Two Nights in Lisbon. Outstanding

Why?. A really good interesting story totally ruined with woke theories and political propaganda.

Great thriller. Oh my Gosh…..best book ever. I have read all the books by this author and was very excited and thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC kindle book in exchange for an honest review. Ariel is the main character. She has had it with guys who take advantage of her. She is tired of keeping quiet to avoid conflict. She hates to be treated like the weaker sex,. She is not the little lady. If Jack Reacher were a woman…….her name would be Ariel. She has learned to take care of herself and woe to those that cross her. Ariel, a single mother, remarries and goes to Lisbon with her new husband on his business trip. He is kidnapped and Ariel will stop at nothing to get him back. If you have read books by this author previously, you will want to read this one. If you haven’t read books by Chris Pavone in the past, I guarantee that you will be reading his other books after reading this one.

Not great. Author went ack and forth so much in the background of the heroine it was a bit difficult to follow.

A fun ride, a serious topic. Chris Pavone unreels a labyrinth plot bit by bit at a frenetic pace, but never too fast to paint the details of his characters. From New York to the Hamptons to Lisbon to a small town farm and bookshop, socialite and divorcee Ariel Pryce lives many lives that come together when her new husband John is kidnapped in Lisbon. But Ariel has a secret. And the lifelong burden sexual abuse places on women is the centerpiece of this story.
