Gory and Rage-Filled. I read this for my Race, Gender, Class, and Sexuality in Literature class and I loved it. Amazing representation. Very visceral. I like how sometimes it felt dream-like. I also noticed a ton of small touches that showed that elements of world building had deeper stories behind them.

Everything I didn't know I needed. This book helped heal me in all the ways growing up surrounded by the white evangelical church crushed me. Thank you so much. This is the first book that I have finished in years. I am sorry for the suffering you have to have been through to even conceptualize this book, but thank you so much for surviving, healing, and doing it. It means the world 💙💖🤍💖💙 Casey

A really great book in a lot of ways. There’s really a lot to like about this book. It’s like the perfect mix of sci fi, dystopian, and romantic fiction. I described it to a friend as “what if the umbrella corporation from resident evil was just a bunch of Christian ecofascists” and that seems to sell them. Great descriptions of body horror mixed with genuine horror and humor and romance, and a really great read all around. If you love the underdog coming from terrible odds to change the world for better and a story about what it means to find out who you are I can’t recommend this book enough

a beautiful story of queer rage and found family. honestly fantastic. the pacing is amazing, the setting is well visualized and the characters are all vibrant and interesting and beautifully queer. i had so many swinging emotions, and the gore and viscera described was almost tangible. a perfect manifestation of a queer rage that i have never read in a book before. andrew joseph white is a fantastic author who put the trans experience - both negative and positive - into all the right words. would be a 10/10, aside from a few nitpicky details of mine. doesn’t help that i’ve never liked the name benji, but i also think the book would have been better off being an adult novel. the gore, the horror, it’s all there, but the concept i feel could have expanded and been explored to even greater, angrier heights had the book not been teen rated, and if the characters themself were at least 18.

Incredible… just incredible!. I finished this book in a day and a half—it was that good! I definitely recommend this book for teens and young adults who like the post-apocalyptic approach to storytelling (with switching perspectives of characters). All around I’d rate it a 5 out of 5 stars!

For the LGBT religion trauma having baddies. I read this book in 3 days. Now that sounds normal but I haven’t read a book in years and could NOT put this down. It was so good and my religious trauma really made this book hurt 10x more
