For any Austen fan!. A great, if fanciful, story connecting characters from all of Austen’s finished works in the year 1820. Two characters are actually the grown children of Austen’s earliest couples! Wickham is as wicked as ever, perhaps more, and has managed to ruin more lives since his turn in Pride & Prejudice. Only his death ends his perfidy. I appreciated how Austen’s couples from previous stories are shown with imperfect marriages that the characters must work on as the investigation into them all as potential murderers proceeds. A quick and enjoyable read.

Enjoyable read.. So after many years, I have been returned to my young self’s first love of all books Austin. This is a whodunnit, based on the Austin characters, crossed with Ms. Agatha Christie “light”, It is an enjoyable mystery. The time frame puts the language and actions old fashioned. Add this to your TBR list.

Great murder mystery forJane Austen fans.. I have been in love with Mr. Darcy since Pride and Prejudice, and always hope for a sequel about his marriage to Elizabeth. At least the book gives us a glimpse, and gives us the chance to know their son, Jonathan. Not to cheer a murder, but it was gratifying to see Mr. Wickham finally get what he deserved! It was also nice to see that the murder and the aftermath brought all the couples closer together, as most were struggling in various ways. Now I just want to know if Jonathan and Juliet ever got together.

Jane Austin meets murder mystery. Great easy read, with characters you know and love yet get to know more deeply as they unravel the mystery. Once you start it’s hard to put down!

Add extras stars if you’re an Austen tragic. The author contrives family or friendship ties between characters from the six completed Jane Austen novels such that they all attend a festive season house party. Those usually lasted a month in the Regency period, so she stages a cozy murder mystery a la Dame Agatha to keep them amused. The vic is the one uninvited guest—George Wickham, the closest thing to a villain in JA, who also featured in PD James’s murder mystery Austen tribute Death at Pemberley (2010), although not as the deceased. Ms Gray’s Wickham is a Georgian Bernie Madoff meaning none of the legitimate invitees lack motive to kill him. The young folk (Darcy’s kid and the Tilney gal) form an adolescent Poirot/Marple tag team and solve the case. Too many characters, too many POVs. The style starts out convincingly Austen, but becomes more Christie-like as it goes on IMO. My favourite Austen tribute remains Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2009 gem: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
