The Assignment by Penelope Ward Book Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano.
Number one: He’s obnoxious.
Number two: He and I were enemies over a decade ago in high school.
Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend.
I could go on and on, really.
When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents—the grandson turns out to be Troy. He’s now as successful as he is undeniably handsome.
Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice.
The only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face in between our many arguments.
Eventually, though, we slowly warm to each other and our outings become something I actually look forward to.
What’s happening to me?
Apparently, I misunderstood the assignment, because it certainly didn’t include thinking about Troy when I close my eyes at night, imagining what it would be like with him—just once. All the while hating myself for fantasizing about a guy who’s all wrong for me. A guy whose car I keyed back in the day. (Long story, but he deserved it.)
That’s all this is—a fantasy.
Well, until that one night at the bar.
The night Troy and I run into each other, and all of our pent-up frustration comes barreling out.
Still, I refuse to accept that it means anything.
There’s no way the guy I’m supposed to hate is also the one I can’t live without.

Redemption…. Didn’t know where this story was headed, but so glad I stayed along for the ride! Love the characters and the storyline!

Good but a few things made me cringe. This is a good book. The romance was believable and not forced. Not a fan of some of the weird misogynistic language in here though.

A fun and entertaining read with a few surprising twists. Aspyn Dumont is sure that she hates, has always hated and will continue to hate Troy Serrano. Aspyn is holding a big grudge against her best friend’s former high school boy friend. “…one decision could change the entire course of your life.” Troy is not the same dumb kid from high school and sets out to prove that to Aspyn when they are forced to spend some time together. “We’ve both made mistakes, mistakes with unintentionally serious consequences. But they happened. And holding onto them isn’t going to change anything.” The Assignment is a cute, fun and entertaining read with a few surprising twists thrown in to keep things interesting :) “You’re not perfect, Serrano. Not by a longshot. Neither am I. But I think we’re perfect for each other.” Another enjoyable book by this author and well worth the read! -4 Stars-

The Assignment. I truly enjoyed this book. It make me laugh. Definitely a hard book to put down.

Forgiveness and second chances are what it’s all about!. I love a good enemies to lover’s story, and I was excited to read this one from Penelope. Troy and Aspyn were enemies back in high school and I couldn’t wait to see what the circumstances were going to be that caused this status, and how they were going to reconnect. I loved that it centered around Troy’s adorable grandfather in the nursing home that Aspyn worked for. There’s definitely a lot of angst in this story. Both characters had a lot of baggage in their backgrounds that felt like it was going to derail their relationship at every turn. Troy worked hard to gain Aspyn’s trust, but she was a super hard nut to crack when it came to giving Troy even a little leniency. I struggled a bit with this aspect because it felt like Aspyn acted like Troy was the one and only person who had caused all the problems in high school and caused them to become enemies, but realistically, he cheated on her friend, NOT her, so I felt her actions went way overboard and she held onto that grudge way too long, even while she was starting to fall for him. I emphasized with both characters for all the things that had happened in their pasts. Those kinds of things certainly had a direct impact on the direction their lives took after high school. Now, they’re both (mostly) mature adults, so the timing was perfect for them to reconnect again. There’s no doubt these two had some amazing chemistry which made for some steamy scenes. Ohh la la!! I really loved Troy’s Nonno, and of course little Kiki. That kid was way smarter than they gave her credit for. And the love secrets from Nonno? Priceless! Even though this story was not one of my favorites from Penelope, it is excellently written, and very emotional. Readers who love the enemies to lover’s trope will eat this one up!

Loved this enemies to lovers storyline.. I enjoyed this enemies to lovers storyline. Troy and Aspyn have great chemistry and fantastic banter. Both have baggage from their past and their journey will have you hooked from the beginning to the end. Another great read by this author.

All the Feels!. Loved Aspyn and Troy! Aspyn is the activities director at Horizons. Troy her arch nemesis from high school shows up to take his Nonno out and Aspyn is assigned babysitting duty. She quickly is attracted to the hot grandson who wants to be friends with added benefits. Only he has a lot to do to earn her trust. This is an enemy to lovers book and is a slow burn. Penelope Ward does all the feels!

The Assignment. Oh wow, I didn’t want to read the last chapter because I did not want the story to end. I loved, loved this book. Penelope never disappoints! A must read. I can’t wait to see what she creates next!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Amazing Enemies to Lovers story! Loved it.. I’m an emotional wreck after finishing the Assignment. This book was a bit of a change from what we normally get in Penelope books. But it was an awesome change! Both Troy & Aspyn had different life challenges. Both heartbreaking in their own right. And their past together was not good. Crazy Enemies to Lovers story. The banter between these 2 was really hot. Loved the story and emotions I felt while reading it. My book hangover is intense!

Lovely story.. Took a bit to get into this, but it is worth it. You may need some Kleenex.

Loved it. I loved it so much I was sad that the story finished

Let down. Not near as good as previous books.

A tale of forgiveness and acceptance. I absolutely loved this book! It’s funny, heartwarming, and brilliantly written. Penelope is a master in crafting stories that inspire you, with flawed characters that you can find walking down the road, and have that deeper ‘moral of the story’. Highly recommend this book if you want something that grabs your attention and your heart.

So flipping good and so many feels!. The Assignment is a very easy to read, entertaining sort of enemies to lovers romance that will make you laugh, feel heated and genuinely like the characters. I really enjoyed this book. A real feel good book as a great escape from reality and I really didn’t want it to end! I genuinely loved Aspyn, for her strength and courage and her ability to be such a caring person. When she sees Troy, needless to say the high school memories come flooding back. Oh my goodness, the flipping sizzling tension between these two, you could almost cut it with a knife! Aspyn is the activities coordinator at the aged care home where Troys grandfather resides. Needless to say the friction in this story will have you on tender hooks! There is also something about both of them that tug at my heartstrings! What happens when the undeniable chemistry can no longer be ignored? Omg….so flipping good and so many feels! You definitely need to have this book on your tbr list!

Swoon worthy read. Oh wow. I loved this enemies to lovers story. Has all the feels Recommend to all
