Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “An epic adventure about a female athlete perhaps past her prime, brought back to the tennis court for one last grand slam” (Elle), from the author of Malibu Rising, Daisy Jones & The Six, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

“A heart-filled novel about an iconic and persevering father and daughter.”—Time

“Gorgeous. The kind of sharp, smart, potent book you have to set aside every few pages just to catch your breath. I’ll take a piece of Carrie Soto forward with me in life and be a little better for it.”—Emily Henry, author of Book Lovers and Beach Read

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Time, NPR, PopSugar, Glamour, Reader’s Digest

Carrie Soto is fierce, and her determination to win at any cost has not made her popular. But by the time she retires from tennis, she is the best player the world has ever seen. She has shattered every record and claimed twenty Grand Slam titles. And if you ask Carrie, she is entitled to every one. She sacrificed nearly everything to become the best, with her father, Javier, as her coach. A former champion himself, Javier has trained her since the age of two.

But six years after her retirement, Carrie finds herself sitting in the stands of the 1994 US Open, watching her record be taken from her by a brutal, stunning player named Nicki Chan.

At thirty-seven years old, Carrie makes the monumental decision to come out of retirement and be coached by her father for one last year in an attempt to reclaim her record. Even if the sports media says that they never liked “the Battle-Axe” anyway. Even if her body doesn’t move as fast as it did. And even if it means swallowing her pride to train with a man she once almost opened her heart to: Bowe Huntley. Like her, he has something to prove before he gives up the game forever.

In spite of it all, Carrie Soto is back, for one epic final season. In this riveting and unforgettable novel, Taylor Jenkins Reid tells her most vulnerable, emotional story yet.

If you love tennis….. You may love this book. I’m indifferent about it, so…..it was hard to care about the main character because she was unlikable

Reid takes you into the game. What a sensational book!! Couldn’t have been reading it at a better time with Wimbledon starting up. I used to play tennis and this book got my drive for greatness and pushing the gambit rolling again. The story and the characters will stay with you past finishing and the thrill of fighting for something will come alive inside of each reader’s heart. It did mine anyway. Highly recommend.

Couldn’t Put It Down. So many lessons in this wonderful story! I didn’t want it to end.

Spoiler alert.. Enjoyed, but did not think the death of Javier was well planned. I also felt like that was an easy way out for Carrie to need to figure out her last steps at the US Open what to do.

Good reading. It was good!

Possibly the best yet from TJR. The imagery and connection to emotion that this book has is amazing. Best book by TJR yet.

Amazing. Another great book by Taylor Jenkins Reid!

A Real Page-Turner. Great characters and just the right amount of detail. I speak a bit of Spanish, but wonder if readers without that get the full emotion from her father; probably so , as his thoughts are clear. Highly recommend!

Page turner.. Honestly obsessed with this book. I was sad when I finished. This story is so motivating and pure. You love Carries character and her dad brings your heart joy. Their bond is incomparable. And Bowe’s love for Carrie is adorable. We need a sequel. ASAP.

Carrie Soto is Back. Predictable, AWFUL SHALLOW characters. Just creepy egomaniacs.

Now a forever fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid. Loved Evelyn Hugo, love Carrie Soto even more! Maybe because I’m a tennis fan, or because I love Reid’s unique, hard-to-love characters, I will read anything this author writes from here on out.

Great characters. I’m not a tennis player but this story was exciting, warm, funny and great for women for all ages. Love the relationship between Carrie and her father.

FABULOUS. I could not put this book down. I like tennis but am not obsessed but this book kept me going from 11pm until 3:30am. I couldn’t wait until my morning coffee and binge through until the end!

Page Turner. I am not a tennis fan but I was absolutely engrossed in this book. It felt like I could smell the grass at Wimbledon - so well-written.

Loved it.. Loved it.

Carrie Soto is Back. It was a fun read! I first got into Taylor Jenkins Reid when I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Which I LOVED!!! The story and the characters had so much depth. I liked this story. It just seemed like Carrie was a little too one-dimensional. Many of the characters didn’t have the depth that the Evelyn Hugo book did. That book was SO GOOD! I loved those characters. This one, I wanted to love them. But they felt a little flat.

Carrie Soto is back!. I started reading Carrie Soto is back because there was an excerpt at end of in Daisy Jones and The Six. (so so so good) and couldn’t wait to buy the book. The only reason for the 4 star rating is because ….I love tennis and there is a lot of tennis in the story….and maybe for someone who isn’t in to it at all, they might not totally 5 star love….but, tennis or not, male or female, Carrie is so relatable, and for so many reasons. The book brings an athlete’s inner thoughts alive in a way that you can’t help yourself from being her biggest fan if not wanting to be just like her! It’s so well written!

Heart pounding!. Another hard-to-put down book from Taylor Jenkins Reid. They characters are believable and human, flaws and all. There are a few plot twists that I didn’t see coming. I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo earlier this summer and felt the same: LOVED it!! My new favorite author!

Carrie Soto is Back!. I loved this book! Great read after Malibu Rising!

When you can’t put it down …. …it’s 5 stars. Thanks TJR

More than just tennis. About a third of the way through this book I though, this is just about tennis? That’s not going to be all that great I was wrong. No spoilers, but I actually cried at one, no two, points in this book. I love the characters. I loved this book
