Book is awesome, ebook editing not so much. I love Lehane's tight plotting, interesting characters so much, I'll overlook the superman jumps of intuition that seem to resolve his Kenzie/Gennaro stories... This is the cruelest of the five I've read, with the highest stakes. My main gripe about the ebook is that the editors seem to have allowed a bug that replaces --ence word ending with Renee. RefeRenee for example. I've noticed it three times in 2/3 of the book; ought to have been noticed/fixed prior to release.

Outstanding!. Loved, loved loved this book! Read this on recommendation from my son, who is an avid reader of all types of literature. I couldn't put it down. As soon as I was done I downloaded another by Lehane. I am hooked

Another Lehane hit. Lehane delivers a taut, chilling thriller full of nasty characters, a brooding hero and snappy sarcasm.

Need better ending. Good story, but no real answers as to why the two biggest culprits did what they did. Story would’ve been much better with answers given at the end!

Great. 5 Stars. Wow! That was really fantastic. It’s been at least ten years since I read the first and I have no idea what took me so long to get to the second Kenzie and Genero book. Lehane was masterful here. He created pure evil and really stressed the good guys more than I’ve seen in a book, maybe ever. In need to put this series in a much more frequent rotation.

Completed. a re-read today. This one was better than remembered. Gonna read the others this Spring.

Dennis Lehane. is proving himself an outstanding and notable standout in the crowed PI/cop detective field. Tension is ratcheted up to a fever pitch with great dialogue and a solid plot with many twists and turns.

Great book bad editing. One of my all time favorite novels but the editing made this version a tough read. Quotation marks are used in more than just conversations. Can get confusing if you don’t already know the story well. Rush job on the proof read

Gripping. Once you are introduced to Dennis Lehane's writing, it's hard not to get addicted. This work also does a great job of depicting the life and subtleties of life in Boston neighborhood. Quite gripping in terms of plot. Couldn't put it down.

Darkness, take my hand. This was a great book but there were so many spelling and syntactical errors, I thought it took away from the experience. Did anyone proofread this book? It's a shame to get this quality from Apple. For example, every time a word is used that ends with "erence" as in conference, interference, etc., it was replaced with "eRenee" - so someone did a massive replace of "renc" with "Rene", an actual character in the book. Also, many paragraphs start with a quote, but then no closing quote and the opening quote was in error in the first place.
