Out of options, she reluctantly accepts her father’s offer to help refurbish Birdsong, the old family place he recently inherited in Guthrie, Georgia. All it will take, he tells her, is a little paint and some TLC to turn the fading Victorian mansion into a real-estate cash cow.
But when she arrives, Dempsey realizes that “Bird Droppings” would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol–pink dump with duct-taped windows and a driveway full of junk. There’s also a murderously grumpy old lady, one of Dempsey’s distant relations, who has claimed squatter’s rights and isn’t moving out. Ever.
Everyone in Guthrie seems to know Dempsey’s business, from a smooth-talking real-estate agent to a cute lawyer who owns the local paper. As if that's not bad enough, pesky FBI agents keep showing up on her doorstep, looking for information about her ex-boss.
All Dempsey can do is roll up her sleeves and get to work. Before long, what started as a job of necessity somehow becomes a labor of love and, ultimately, a journey that takes her to a place she never expected—back home.

Good read!. Interesting and enjoyable to follow the events. Felt myself cheering for the crotchety old lady.
The fixer upper. Mary Kay is a great writer, keeps your interest. I have now read all her books and cannot wait for her next one. They are fun and quick read.
The Fixer Upper. First time reading this author, but definitely won’t be the last. This lady knows how to tell a story. Even though it was a nice, long one, I wasn’t ready for it to end. Loved all the characters, well not so much Dempsey’s father and his wife, but you can only choose your friends, not your relatives. Anyway, I believe anyone who loves a good story will enjoy this book.
The fixer upper. I loved this book. It was fast paced and had a good plot. Would recommend to anyone.
Fun book. Pretty predictable, but a good way to pass the time....the characters were likeable, and the story was interesting. I would recommend.

A charmer of a story. Not your typical, inherit an old home & find out its secrets story that we’ve all read a thousand times. This book has several stories going on at once & they all mesh beautifully. I rate it a 4.5 stars at least. An enjoyable read.
