Plantation by Dorothea Benton Frank Book Summary
New York Times bestselling author Dorothea Benton Frank evokes a lush plantation in the heart of modern-day South Carolina—where family ties and hidden truths run as deep and dark as the mighty Edisto River.
Caroline Wimbley Levine always swore she’d never go home again. But now, at her brother’s behest, she has returned to South Carolina to see about Mother—only to find that the years have not changed the Queen of Tall Pines Plantation. Miss Lavinia is as maddeningly eccentric as ever—and absolutely will not suffer the questionable advice of her children. This does not surprise Caroline. Nor does the fact that Tall Pines is still brimming with scandals and secrets, betrayals and lies. But she soon discovers that something is different this time around. It lies somewhere in the distance between her and her mother—and in her understanding of what it means to come home…

Great book!. I couldn't put it down. Great Characters and a wonderful story of family, love and loss.
Great book!!!. I loved this book and love this writer I am from the south and her books are very accurate. The characters are colorful and the plot was amazing.
Beautiful journey!. Slow paced storytelling and very worth the ride!
Charming. If you like the south, family traditions, gracious manners and quirky characters, you will enjoy this book. Touching and funny. As a daughter of Yankees who is a pretend southern belle, I loved that south carolina's ACE river basin was almost a character in the story. An enjoyable read.
Plantation. I love reading Ms Frank's books but this one is one of my favorites. Well written & truly makes you feel you have an understanding of the love of this beautiful place.
loved this. wonderful story, laughed and cried. wonderful combination
Plantation. Very interesting. Enjoyed this book.
GREAT. A tragedy has befallen me, I have just finished the last book in ms. Frank's Low Country series. They are all safely downloaded on my iPad. Now what do I do, oh wait at my age all I have to do is wait three or four months and reread them and it will seem like the first time. :-) Seriously, she is a wonderful spinner of Low Country tales, I have fallen in love with every character. Can't wait for the next one.......
Loved it. Took a minute then the story flowed well, great book. Laughed and cried .
Slow start turned to great book. I had a lot of trouble committing to this book right at the beginning. Fort, that didn’t last long, & I soon found myself with this book in my hands constantly in my hands. My only concern was the size of the font being quite small. But the storyline was so compelling. I loved it!
Plantation. I loved this book. I felt as tho I was there on the plantation with them. I loved miss Lavinia's personality! She reminds me of someone I know. Enjoy
Plantation. Excellent read! Wonderful character development!
Made me glad to live in The South. This book is like a warm southern hug. Whether you are from the Carolina’s or Connecticut, by the end you are a part of this world. I loved the richness of Miss Lavinia and The strength she gives to her friends and family. I’m only sorry that I have finished the book. I would just love to see how Caroline makes the plantation her own.
Quietly Anti Semitic. If you like Dorothea Benton Frank’s writing, well here’s another book. Pretty much the same but this one adds a subtle dose of anti semitism. I find I’m no longer a fan.
Plantation - a great read!. I have read this book quite a few times. It is funny & sad at the same time. Every time I read it, things come up that remind me of my late grandmother...some of her sayings & actions. It & the next book, Lowcountry Summer, are fantastic summer reading, yanh!
Plantation. I greatly enjoyed this artful splash of southern culture and charm. Plantation's characters and tale were beautifully developed to the point that her words were drawn into my ear in their native accent and color and not just into my mind's eye. I jeered with the mistresses and disdained the sallow fools then sometimes questioned which were which. A delightful look at relationships spun for all kinds of reasons but mostly out of history and our living it over, whether for ourselves or someone else.
Great Read!. I have read several of Ms. Frank's books and enjoyed each one. Plantation is by far the best.
