Complicated, and not easy, but worth the pain. This is one of the darkest fantasy novels I've ever read, but in its darkness it unveils a complexity that makes the painful journey of its characters worth your time.

Terrible. The writing is bland, awkward and uninspired.

Excellent. Really enjoy this series it's everything I wish r.a Salvatore had the guts to do after developing such great characters

Lots of Potential. As others have said, this book is quite dark. Almost inexcusably so. The first several chapters are by far it's weakest points, choosing gritty action over world building and hauling the reader along at breakneck speed when it really isn't appropriate. However... Dalglish redeems himself in the later chapters with a character torn between his moral compasses and his fleshly passions. Building up to a masterful ending, The Weight of Blood promises a thrilling series of adventures to come.

Unpolished. It's hard to sympathize with a serial child killer, regardless of his simple moral twangs (which had little depth to them anyways). The story felt rushed, much was left unexplained, similar to Paolini's last work, with no real basis for the neglect. The reader is forced to assume the brothers to be ''naturally gifted'' as the author gives little in the way of plausible background. The scant description given to the setting paints a bland world. Not a horrific book, but in a world dominated by Tolkien, Robert Jordan, and many others, there are far better books to spend your time reading.

Decent book. I've read a whole lot of fantasy books in my life. This is a decent book, but not at the upper echelon of fantasy stories. The relationship between the Orc brothers is way too similar to the the relationship between Caramon & Raistlin of the Dragonlance series and without the level of character development of Weis & Hickman.

Amazing. Wow I love this book and I've only read 35 pages I recommend it to anyone who like fantasy books

Wow. I am 18 and I have read many books in my life (90% fantasy) and this is one of the very best book series I have read my entire life. I am rating it against books like the chronicles of narnia, the sword of shannara, the lord of the rings trilogy, twilight trilogy and all Christopher paulini's work. All those people who think this book is a rip off of board games and other childish accusations play way to many board games in the first place. Don't take my word or their word for it. I am writing this review after reading the entire series for the third time, this time in only a week. Try them out for yourself if you don't love them, well you must HATE good fantasy I love you David keep up the amazing work

Shudder. This was simply not good fiction. The characters were thin, obviously cribbed from Dragonlance. The setting was generic, obviously cribbed from a D&D campaign. But the true topper was that the main character, the one we are supposed to sympathize with, (spoiler alert) is a serial child murderer. No thank you. I've read other Dalglish books that were, if not awesome, at least passable fiction. This was dreck. Anyone giving it five stars needs to either A) read A LOT more fiction or B) seek professional help.

Great read. I enjoyed the book very much. It was a quick read and found myself unable to put the book down. Can't wait to see what happens to Harruq and Qurrah.

The Wieght of Blood. Great read! Would recommend to friends. It would make a great movie if Holly Wood could stick to the script! If you love medieval fantasy you've got to read it!

Awesome. This book was awesome!!! Well written and very entertaining. I read the whole book in three days. I will be reading this series.

The Weight Of Blood. This is one of the greatest books I have read since Harry potter from start to finish I was hooked make more dark action packed books so I can read on ps from gamer back to a reader

Scott. Weight of blood I felt was so so I mean it was good but it wasn't great and because it was free I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and start reading the second book. And I'm thrilled that I did. I just finished the third book and I'll buy the fourth one after I'm done writing this. It is such an enjoyable and exciting read and he spins a tale that I personally can't put down. I highly recommend getting this book and every book after. I would give the book and the series 5 stars but I feel that most people only read the three-star review so it's a five star book and a ten star series but it gets three stars so I can get people to read the review.

Awesome. I am halfway done with the book and find it very original!

Dope af fr fr. Im all in now, and i use to read more crime thrillers and future sci fi stuff.... thanks

More. I dont normally read, this is the first book I read in who knows how long. At first I didn't get too into the story when they described the orcs attacking the humans but the more I read and got into thr characters themselves the more I wanted to know

Sleepy. Very interesting story. I enjoyed the "other side " in this fantasy first time I've read a story about orcs. Stayed up late finishing it! Looking forward to the next book! Hopefully soon.

Outstanding. I love how the book starts dark it leads up to the necromancial background to where everything just builds up one problem after the other, couldn't put the book down loved it.

Bold difference. I read a lot. Most books follow common moral and cultural rules we readers can easily recognize and respond to. Not this guy. He is going where few dare to tread, into the gray area of nurture versus nature and how these to elements of human experience collide. I just finished the second book and am thrilled to have found a writer, who, though not perfect in his craft, is willing to tell a story about the liability of following what one believes instead of what one knows. I'll stay with this guy for as long as he keeps it real.

A quick review. A very dark, gritty, and rather shocking. This isn't your run-of-the-mill adventure stories. This is one that basically tells the story of two brothers and their rise into the world of evil and darkness and leading to their downfall. Can't wait to read the next one.

The Grand Opening!. This book opened a world for me thank you so much David!!! Read this book everyone!

Good. Really good. There is some swearing, but if there wasn't , it would be 5 stars.

Good. I really enjoyed the series, it was different from your standard heroes and villians conflicts.

Simply amazing.. A beautiful book.

The weight of blood. At first I did not know what to think, but as the story progressed I became curious, and had to finish reading the book. Now that you hooked me, I have to get the next book in the series. Thank you for a refreshing look from the other side. Philip Garber

Great and dark read. I really found myself conflicted, I loved that they both are finding their own path, but its really easy to feel sorry for and hate certain characters, sometimes both at the same time. I plan to read the others soon. Good job David.

Well Written.. It was better than I expected for a free book. I wouldn't recommend this story to someone who is sensitive or has an aversion to graphic stories.

A painful, eye-rolling read.. This book was C-O-R-N-Y!

The half orcs story part 1. This book is a must own i loved it I'm 13 and I hate reading it takes me 3 months to read a book it took me 3 weeks to read its a must own try the whole series I still have to read them but get this one it's awesome.

I really liked it!. A suspenseful, well written story, showing how easy it is to be misled into doing the wrong thing and the bravery needed to change your future.

the weight of blood. i literally rooted for evil, the entire book.

The Weight of Blood. This is great writing, can't wait to finish the series

Very entertaining. Great book. Looking forward to reading the others. The pace of the story quick but not rushed. The characters were developed. It left me wanting more.

The Half-Orcs. Good book. Really dark, but try fantasy. Looking forward to sequels.

Great book!. Overall I thought it was a fantastic book, once I started reading I couldn't stop. I gave it a 4 because it can be a bit gory, dark, and disturbing, but overall it was good and I look forward to reading the next one!

Good read.. The characters are a little cliche'd but much darker than most would be used to. Bad childhood made them strong. What is different is how the characters end up being more on the side of evil rather than good like most high fantasy. Nice to read a book about the evil side of a high fantasy setting.

Good Read. The story is good and it leaves you wanting to know what happened to them. I plan on buying the next one.

The Weight of Blood. Fascinating story. Enjoyed the depth of understanding into their characters. This story is just right.

great writing and story.. I am on to the next book

Great book. Great to read something and be surprised! Very good book and love the "heros"(?)

The weight of blood. This is the best book I've ever read in my life I really like the plot and the characters and how the world of the half orcs was introduced to the reader I would recommend this book to many people I love the story and all the action and fantasy my favorite character personally is hurraq because of his amazing talent and all the action that he is evolved in torn between good and bad velixer and aurila and his own brother I think it was an amazing book and I will read it many times

Super good!. Any lover of fantasy will greatly enjoy this book! The worst part is it is over way too fast!

Half Orcs. Best series ever

The Weight of Blood. The note from author mentioned some reviews thought it too dark, understandable, given the atrocities committed by the main characters. I feel it gives depth to the story that sets it apart from others. To see them on a path that may lead to redemption even after those events is compelling. I've done many things others and myself have found disgraceful, yet found away to offer and make amends. It's a look into the making of the villain (or hero) I've not seen before.

Interesting take on a fantasy epic. Normally these type of books start with a young hero plucked from relative obscurity and thrust into a roll of which he or she struggles to do the right thing. This fresh new take, however dark it starts out to be, is an interesting twist on the typical fantasy. I have finished the fist two books in the series so far and can see multiple ways this story could turn, each one equally as good. Dalglish proves his story telling ability by keeping the reader guessing about the next turn the tale will take, with his in his in depth and sometimes macabre details about battle. I would liken it to a fantasy version of the tv show criminal minds. Sometimes very dark but compelling enough that you have to reach the end. I cannot wait to finish this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed!. This book was awesome. Usually I'm not a fan of reading at all. However, time on Bart allowed me an opportunity to read. This book was a great read! I found myself reading it even when I was not on Bart. Legit characters. Darkness, love and brothers made for great subjects. Very happy I read this. Moving on to the next 4 no doubt

Great series and author. I have read the entire half orc series and it is amazing. I am big into scifi and fantasy and Dalglish did a fantastic job with this series. I also just finished the Paladins series which was also amazing. Can't wait to start on the Assassin series.

Great story!. Has me hooked

Very nice. Well written and a steal for free! I'll definitely be purchasing book 2, 3, & 4!

The weight of blood. Where do I start. I was never really much of a reader, an ideal I brushed to the side without a 2nd thought. After getting this book (free from iTunes) I soon gathered a great interest, and with characters and a storyline as enchanting as this, it wasn't long until I had finished yurning for what came next. Instantly, I bought the remaining 4 books desperate to know and continued along this epic journey...

Very good. Firstly I Do not believe in comparing authors as all minds take their own course. This ebook immiediatly reminded me of Lord of the Rings, in the context that it was a hidden part of the story not yet told. I found it slow for the first chapter (as I do with most books) but as soon as the story came alive in my mind I could not pull myself away from it. As others have commented you do find yourself routing for the two brothers in all that they do, hoping they survive and complete their quest no matter how brutal or unjust. At the end of the novel I was left worried for the two brothers as though I was part of their lives (this is the mark of a good author and story in my opinion) and I was left wanting more. I was very pleased to find the second book continues where the first had finished (where so many do not) A very good novel for all.

Mr A, Goodfellow. One of the best books I have ever read very imaginative characters with both a loveable and hateable side. The evil things that they do throughout the book somehow make you feel sympathetic toasted them (though in my case more to Harruq than Qurrah). I will definitely be downloading the rest of the books in this series and look forward to reading other books from this very talented author.

awesome. Completed the first two books now and I am enjoying them immensely, the story-lines all though sometimes a bit darker than the norm in fantasy are excellent all in all awesome!!

Brilliant!. This book is such a good read! Couldn't stop reading it and finished it pretty quick.

Brilliant book!!. It took a little while to get my head around the characters and this strange world but I was soon drawn into the story! I would find myself rooting for the brothers even when they were the 'baddies', I had to read it in one go as I was sucked into their world, a well written and interesting story.

5/5. The book kept me drawn in all the way though right till the end, amazing!

The weight of blood. A good easy read. Just read the second in the series and thoroughly enjoyed it!! Number 3 downloading now. Thanks to the author

Really enjoyed it. Not what I was expecting but kept 'me reading.

Mr. I have got to say I am David Dalglish's biggest fan, I have read books 1 to 4 back to back and I am just in awe at the story so far, I make myself late for work as I couldn't put this down, if David keeps writing then I will certainly keep buying!! Great books and I have spoke to the author who is a generally nice and modest guy, give him credit where it's due

Excellent Read. As a 20 year veteran of the sci-fi / fantasy genre with literally hundreds of books under my belt, (so to speak), this story is hard to fault. The main characters are dark and brutal, yet with starkly contrasting redeeming characteristics that are hard to square with their actions. Nevertheless, you find yourself rooting for them in the hope they eventually make the morally correct choice. The action comes thick and fast. Other reviewers have commented on the rushed paced and I would tend to agree if this were a printed novel, but in electronic format I've found it perfect for a quick blast on a train, etc. The best comparison I can think of for this e-novel is that's it's like a David Gemmell short story, (which I consider to be high praise indeed). Read and enjoy!

The Weight Of Blood. Another truly fantastic book by an excellent author. Good strong characters which keep you wanting to read more and more. Brilliantly written and a great story, sometimes you feel sorry for the brothers sometimes not, but you will love this book. A1

Half Orc book 1. Dark story, couldn't stop reading this utterly brilliant

Shows promise. The beginning is slightly confusing, but don't let that fool you. For a debut novel (and free) it is fantastic, you will soon find yourself hooked and longing for more.

Very good series. Enjoyed all the series, really good books. Makes you think of the moral choices they make and manages to make you like the orc's through out.

Excellent story.. A very good read. I was almost immediately sucked into this world of elves and orcs and magic. As horrible as the acts that the two half-orc brothers committed where, I still felt a bit sympathetic...THAT is a hard act to pull; kudos to the author David Dalglish. Will definitely be buying the other two books.

Fine Story, good read.. Short and a little rushed, but a good read. Some parts of the story are spoiled by the authors attempt to add a level of darkness to the characters, which was unnecessary. However the story as a whole was engaging and entertaining.

No Gemmel, but not bad. I did enjoy reading this book although the author isn't in the league of your usual published ones. He does write well, although he just doesn't grab you or fill your imagination with his world. Also I found the main parts of the plot unbelievable especially the romance, (not to give anything away) but come on, that just would not happen! I completed the book and I did enjoy it, but I don't know if I would recommend it, as my title suggests he is no Gemmel and any book by said author beats this hands down.

A decent, yet flawed, effort. Not a bad attempt from the author. The 2 main characters are likeable. I get the feeling that it was a little rushed though, and more explaining is needed in parts. The 2 characters are very trusting of anyone straight away, which makes it less believable. And in parts it seems they are invincible only to see then badly injured, from weak attacks, on the next. All in all, fairly good. Just hope the author writes in more detail in the sequel.

Fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this series. The story is very dark, but very well written.

Entertaining read.. Read to kill some late nights at work. I enjoy the Forgotten Realms series/style, but this book doesn't really measure up. Perhaps I'm biased. Still not terrible over all.

War of the twins. Good read. Very reminiscent of war of the twins, though this time around I preferred the big dumb brother to the magic wielder. Well written though and characters were mostly likable.

Cool Story. Cool Caracters
