The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson Book Summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

With Robert Jordan’s untimely passing in 2007, Brandon Sanderson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn novels and the Stormlight Archive, was chosen by Jordan’s editor—his wife, Harriet McDougal—to complete the final volume in The Wheel of Time®, later expanded to three books.

The Gathering Storm, the twelfth novel in Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, begins the story’s dramatic conclusion as Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, struggles to unite a fractured network of kingdoms and alliances in preparation for the Last Battle.

War is coming. The Dark One’s forces are brutal and unrelenting. Rand must forge a united front, but the Seanchan remain an immediate threat, as do the Forsaken. With so many shadows swirling around him, Rand is consumed by his responsibilities, turning heartless in the eyes of his allies, and even more merciless to his enemies.

Meanwhile the Seanchan march on the White Tower, where Egwene al'Vere works to rally the disparate factions of the Aes Sedai together, even as their tyrannical leader schemes against her. Providing leadership in the face of increasing uncertainty and despair, Egwene’s fight will prove the mettle of the Aes Sedai, and her conflict will decide the future of the White Tower—and possibly the world itself.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

A lot more action. Moved along faster and more action than the middle books.

Awesome!. This author proves why he was chosen to finish the greatest fantasy epic ever!

Sanderson Picks Up The Story Without A Hitch. Brandon Sanderson had a daunting task when he took over the late Robert Jordan's epic Wheel of Time series. He has done a fantastic job of continuing the story. I'm not sure if it's his style or the fact that the story is ending, but this book moves at a much faster and more purposeful pace than many of its predecessors. He's done a fantastic job of keeping the imagery alive while also advancing the story. I think long-time fans of the series will appreciate its faster pace and the sheer amount of satisfying reveals and answered questions. The only criticisms I have are that it jumps around a little too often. Sometimes spending only one small chapter on one of the main characters before switching to another. Also, during these jumps the timelines of each character's story don't sync up as well as they have in past books. Even with these "flaws" though I still give it 5 stars because it's really a great addition to the saga. As the story is coming to its end, I'm bursting with anticipation to see how it all plays out. Yet, I'm also a bit sad knowing that it will end. Like a lot of fans I've been invested in this saga for almost 20 years! It's almost like saying goodbye to a dear dear friend.

Great Story. Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson at their best.

Great writing by Sanderson. Brandon Sanderson, does an incredible job of sticking to the meat of the story as well as answering many questions the readers have had on their minds for many years. He also does a great job of following Robert Jordan's outline for the story. It Would be nice However to also have this book listed under "Robert Jordan" as well ad Brandon Sanderson's book listings. I had s difficult time attempting to find this book since it wasn't listed with Robert Jordan's other books.

Ugh. This book was a chore. So much bickering and very little plot movement until the very end. It felt like there was very little for the main cast of characters to do and a bunch of characters I didn’t care about.

Excellent Installment. This book moves faster than the last and reminded me why I started reading the series in the first place. Important things happen and the story is moving to it’s climax. Recommended - and hold on to the end of the series. It’s worth it.

Crashes iBooks. Strangely iBooks crashes on my iPad any time I try to load this book. Tried closing all apps, including iBooks, and rebooting the device and redownloading the book but it still happens. OS and iBooks are both the newest versions.

The Gathering Storm. After all these books, finally, with gale force, the plot moves.

OMG. What a build up to a climax! I can't wait to get my hands on the last book. I've been reading this series for years. I almost hate to see it end.

Fantastic. Brandon Sanderson did a masterful job picking up the story and adding the best humor of any of the books along with a riveting and exciting storyline.

Good, but.... ...I really wish Apple would stick with a universal price for these books. I mean, a dollar more or so for the new books would be fine and all, but the way they seem to make these book prices seems kind of random. A couple of books is $6.99, while others in the series are $7.99, 8.99, and $9.99! Other than that, these are great ports of even greater books! Please fix the prices!

The student has become the teacher.... This is the most emotionally engaging book of the series and my favorite because of it. No disrespect to Robert Jordan but Brandon Sanderson via Harriet saved this series. He was not only the right pick to write these books but an inspired pick. Jordan would be proud. The end is nigh...I now start the towers of midnight but will not forget this book or what it meant to the series and what it meant to me.

Worthy of its predecessors. Brian Sanderson continues Robert Jordan's epic in grand style. His prose is more compact and his diction less varied, but for the better. Brian Sanderson could have attempted to mimic Jordan's voice, but the result would have been less well received. The pace is faster, due probably, to the drawing to a close of this epic. Unlike Jordan, Sanderson doesn't feel compelled to include characters that are now relegated to less important situations. He focuses on the four major characters; Rand, Mat, Perrin and Egwene. Gone is Jordan's propensity to use trivial characters to purposely confound the reader. The story is clearly presented, but the excitement and lovability of the story and its characters is intact. Some will say that this co-writing damages the epic, but I disagree. Sanderson himself a fan of these novels, by his own account, has been given a joyous burden and he is performing wonderfully. For those readers annoyed with certain characters I say to you buy and read this book. I think you will find them less annoying or even non-existent in this novel. Enjoy all the fluff without the fuss? A great read, straightforward and exciting. I would recommend this to anyone who has read the former novels even if they didn't like them.

Robert would be proud.. The current author has done a remarkable job of trying to carry on Robert's work. At times I even have a hard time remembering that he isn't the one at a type writer.

Revived the series. So far, this is the best book in the series

Wheel of Time gets back on track.. After a couple books where very little happened, the plot starts to take off again. The writing is clearly a different style then Robert Jordan’s, but seems to go well with the tone of the series.

Wonderful!. Brandon Sanderson takes up Jordan's torch with style, cohesion, and eloquence. His deep familiarity with the characters leaves us feeling Jordan's spirit though the whole book, touched with a subtle freshness only a Wheel of Time lover can truly admire and acknowledge. Great job Brandon! Bravo on all accounts!
