Digital Fortress by Dan Brown Book Summary

Before the multi-million, runaway bestseller The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown set his razor-sharp research and storytelling skills on the most powerful intelligence organization on earth--the National Security Agency (NSA)--in this thrilling novel, Digital Fortress.

When the NSA's invincible code-breaking machine encounters a mysterious code it cannot break, the agency calls its head cryptographer, Susan Fletcher, a brilliant and beautiful mathematician. What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. The NSA is being held hostage...not by guns or bombs, but by a code so ingeniously complex that if released it would cripple U.S. intelligence.

Caught in an accelerating tempest of secrecy and lies, Susan Fletcher battles to save the agency she believes in. Betrayed on all sides, she finds herself fighting not only for her country but for her life, and in the end, for the life of the man she loves.

From the underground hallways of power to the skyscrapers of Tokyo to the towering cathedrals of Spain, a desperate race unfolds. It is a battle for survival--a crucial bid to destroy a creation of inconceivable genius...an impregnable code-writing formula that threatens to obliterate the post-cold war balance of power. Forever.

Digital Fortress. One of the most exciting books I have read. Author Dan Brown a writing genius. Well written. Can't stop reading? Sleepless nights until the exciting end....

Digital Fortress. Right up there with the rest of Dan Brown’s best but in some way, a little sweeter.

Classic Dan Brown. Chases, hunts, strange people, mysterious codes and clues, Italy and split second timing interacting with a great group of key characters...classic Dan Brown.

Greatest Conspiracy Author. The ending showed commitment to an ideal like no other. It was utterly fantastic. I was bugging out like a fan boy at his first concert. It was so great.

Just OK. This book was just ok as compared to other Dan Brown novels. Very apropos with today's government influence over control of information. The least favorite for me of his novels.

Digital Fortress. This book really stayed with me. I read it in about 2-3 days and i loved it. It had a lot of emotion and thrill in it. The ending was spectacular and very well done. I can easily say that I loved this book from start to finish and I'm sure that anyone who is a fan of Dan Brown's will love this book.

Great Read. Digital Fortress is one of the best reads I've had in 10 years. Written in 1998 by Dan Brown, the NSA headlines in 2013 sound so, similar. It's eerie; well worth the money.

Digital Fortress. Exciting from beginning to end! The plot takes you in so many different direction keeping you interest thought out the book

Digital fortress. Fantastic as are all of Dan Brown Books

Digital Fortress Review. As usual with Dan Browns books it will keep you glued to your seat for the most part. Meaning the story slows down a lot and your edge of the seat Interest slows with it. I found myself putting the book or in my case IPad aside more than once to focus on other things. As a speed reader I normally zip through a book that holds my interest. This storyline slowed in more than one area until the last 100 pages. As with most of Dans books as the story reaches its peak it again becomes alive and unable to shut out. That again happened in Digital Fortress and the climax was all I had hoped for. So to sum up, the beginning third was spell bounding, the middle third was somewhat slow and easy to predict and the final third had you at the edge of your seat. Now that I think about it it appears Dan set it up this way and achieved his goal. In the future I would be a bit more careful as a lesser fan of his work might have strayed as the story slowed! Gene Caporale

My favorite Dan Brown so far!. Awesome book. I read it in less than a week. Hands down, my favorite of this yet.

Excellent book. Lots of twist, smart writing book. Can not stop reading it!

Best IT government conspiracy ever!!!. Being a IT government employee, it was excited to see all of what I do come to life with a extra twists here and there!! Dan Brown knows how to keep a book, or in my case a iPad mini in my hands...

Just ok. Some interesting aspects, but the writing doesn't compare to the Robert Langdon series. I just found myself skimming to get to the end, already.

Loved the book. This book is just awesome. Every part of the book kept you on your nerves trying to guess what came next. Amazing storyline. Loved it ! Finished reading it in 2 days.

So bad I couldn't finish it. Digital Fortress is clearly one of Dan Brown's early efforts. It reads like a collection of soundbites, and the plot is telegraphed so clearly that you pretty much know what's going to happen before it does. I rarely give up on a book, but I did on this one. Dan Brown's later efforts are much better than this amateurish book.

Digital Fortress. Very good read, but too much repetition of tech details.

Digital Fortress. Great book real page turner classic Dan brown

Oh my god yes!!!!. This is the kind of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you jump back from story to story. The short captures are action packed!

Digital Fortress. Excellent storyline! Riveting the whole entire read. If you like books that keep you thinking then this is the one. Just when you think you have it figured out, there is a twist. The only disappointing thing was the profanity, there was no need for it.

WOW. I’ve read every book by Dan Brown. Every one is excellent. This book was masterful. It was literally a nail biter to the very last page. Well done.

Good read. Enjoyable book with clever plot twists and a vivid imagining. The science wasn't always on point, but was enjoyable even for a someone with a background in cryptography.

Digital Fortress. Well written. Brown has a way of making fiction follow fact so closely that the work almost becomes a political statement. His statement, "Who is guarding the guards?" Is probably close to today's truth. Suspenseful read.

Fantastic. I'm not a heavy reader, I've only read like 5 books in my whole life, so, when I decided to start a reading habit I first thought of Dan Brown because I loved the 2 motion pictures based on his novels. I admit I only purchased Digital Fortress because I only had a few bucks in my apple account and was on sale, what a pleasant investment. It starts so strong and with such a detailed, and not boring at all, development of characters that its almost impossible to put it down. I was expecting his famous twists and turns and when I started reading I promised to myself I wouldn't be tricked or taken by surprise by the narrative, boy I was wrong, he managed to involve you in the story you'd keep numb and then, boom!, a twist. I even bought his recent Inferno and started reading it right up finishing Digital fortress cause I'm still hooked with his writing. Long story short, if u like suspense and puzzling this one you should read. Hope u enjoy it as much as I did.

Woody's Thoughts. I was Pretty disappointed, as I'm a big Dan Brown Fan. Maybe I'm more interested in historical facts than computer facts, but this book certainly lacked the interesting side information that usually makes Brown's books entertaining.

Digital Fortress. Excellent book. Could not put it down until the end.

Digital Fortress. Top notch thriller. Keeps audience spellbound.

Very enjoyable read!. I enjoyed reading this book as I have enjoyed all of Dan Brown's other books. Very suspenseful and kept me wanting to read just one more chapter.

Not the best. The book was ok but then again I just kept expecting more.

Excellent. Dated, but that didn’t matter.

Great Novel. This is the first book I've never put down and came back to.

Take this book to your next book burning party. If I could award black holes, this book would earn five of them. A bit or research would have led to a better story. Being a cryptologist, I have read a lot of both fiction and nonfiction about crypto and this is the worst treatment of the topic, by far, in any fiction I have read. Brown doesn’t understand the difference between a key, an algorithm, or a passcode. He doesn’t comprehend that some things are impossible. Or other things he says are impossible are quite the opposite. He simply gets everything wrong. I enjoy science fiction, so I am used to suspending reality to tell a story. That is not the problem. It appears that Brown didn’t even bother to pick up a Wikipedia level of knowledge before writing this book, nor that his reviewers had any knowledge on the subject. I can forgive the technical flaws; it’s the cliche, stereotypical characters that I can’t get past. The he’oes are brilliant, beautiful people. The villain is a delusional and disfigured psychopath. The story reads like an old Batman comic book; a story thrown together over a week while the kids were at summer camp. His characterization of the NSA is so wrong it’s comical. NSA is bound by the Civil Service pay scale. They do not offer “double what industry” does. They make the best offers they can under the Civil Service guidelines, which is usually 10% or so below what industry offers. The book was written in 1998; at that time there were many women employed there (Not just as secretaries), inNotth cryptanalysis and information assurance. They are very smart, mostly average looking people with normal problems. Most of their young recruits come directly out of college with the enticement of NSA subsidizing further education. While NSA technology is sometimes on the leading edge, no one was ’oing quantum computing then or now; It hasn’t made it out of the physics lab yet. I rarely quit a book before I finish it; this one is an exception. I hope I didn’t pay more than a couple bucks for it. A waste of time; a wast of money.

LUVS IT!!😍😍. This was my absolute favorite book! The plot had amazing twists and turns that made me turn pages so quicklyâ˜ș! The characters were developed perfectly! It was beautifully written. Brown did such an amazing job describing all of the events. He made you ask why the heck anyone would do that and then showed why later in the book. Couldn't put it down!!!!!!!💋💋💋

Good one. Gripping story. But the suspense is obvious sometimes. But overall it's a good read.

Great book. Felt like reading a movie. Better than a Netflix binge

AMAZING MAGICAL BOOK. I am thrilled with the book from pg1 to pg467 I couldn't put it down, and I don't know how Mr. Brown did it, but he did it again. Read "The Dan Vinci Code" etc has been the same experience. In short loved this to the end. Read it everywhere from the bed, bathroom, even during dinners. I just couldn't leave my iPad away for a second.

Couldn't stop reading. First book in years I actually picked up and didn't put down from boredom. This book got me to enjoy reading again.

a waste of time.. Recommend to pass and don’t waste your time

Not up to Dan Browns standards.. This book was to predictable!

Great title, very fitting.. One of the best books I’ve read in my life. Lots of twists and turns I wasn’t expecting.

Digital Fortress by Baldacci. Excellent novel. But it was pub in 1998 and I'd forgotten I'd read it back then, so I regret buying it now. Can't return it so... Still, a very good read.

Outstanding technical thriller. Kept me going right till the end. Gives me pause to think that there are possibly people in control that have personal agendas that run our deepest government secrets. I am glad that this is just a work of fiction... (Here's hoping anyway)

Pretty good - not the best though. Nice read - fast paced and interesting. Gripped me towards the end and met me guessing.

Ehhh. It was a cool read although I imagine this like a week long crisis on a soap opera. The ending was subpar just because of the riff that came with figuring it out. Also Strathmore was a piece of work simply doing things out of obsession. Watch out for work relationships people.

Just OK.... While the plot that drove the book was fairly well developed, I fund most of the dialogue banal and predictable. If you're looking for good near future thrillers, I would highly suggest anything by Daniel Suarez.

Digital fortress. Great read

Great story. However, the writing style was a bit annoying with all the ...Like a... followed by something really silly. it was like Mr. Brown channeled Dan Rather on election night. Otherwise the story was engaging and edgy.

Good story dated by technology. The story still rings fresh in our ears as current events unfold surrounding the NSA and their purported data gathering programs. It is always fascinating to watch the debate and the interplay of ethics between security and freedom. This book is a still-relevant story even if we've seen some of the tech within move on, and other elements are becoming reality- Google Glass among them. It's a fun read. If you've got nothing to hide, there's little to fear. When you have much to lose, the stakes rise.

Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. Good writing and very entertaining. The premise is rather far-fetched, in my opinion, but I think all of the author's stories have a tendency to be that way.

Digital Fortress. I really enjoyed this book just like The DaVinci Code,The Lost Symbol and Angel and Demons. You didn't want to put it down once you started to read it. Its' a wonderful book.

exhilarating
.. I just can’t let it go ‘till the last page

Fun to read!. Moves fast, the chapters are brief but it’s fun. Not as complex as Dan Brown’s later books but I enjoyed the story.

Engaging. I found once I began reading "Digital Fortress" I could not put it down. Dan Brown has once again given us a story so entrenched in mystery and intrigue that the reader becomes an integral piece of the puzzle.

Excellent read. Very well done!

If You Like Dan Brown.......... This is a must read. Right in line with his other books. Will not disappoint you! Hard to put down.
