Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford Book Summary

An unforgettable coming of age novel for fans of 13 Reasons Why, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Fifteen-year-old Jeff wakes up on New Year’s Day to find himself in the hospital—specifically, in the psychiatric ward.

Despite the bandages on his wrists, he’s positive this is all some huge mistake. Jeff is perfectly fine, perfectly normal; not like the other kids in the hospital with him.

But over the course of the next forty-five days, Jeff begins to understand why he ended up here—and realizes he has more in common with the other kids than he thought.

“With a sprinkling of dark humor and a full measure of humanness, Suicide Notes is quirky, surprising, and a riveting read.” —Ellen Hopkins, author of The You I’ve Never Known and Love Lies Beneath

“Like the very best teen novels, Suicide Notes is both classic and edgy, timeless and provocative.” —Brent Hartinger, author of Geography Club

“Makes a powerful emotional impact.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Jeff’s wit and self-discovery are refreshing, poignant, and, at times, laugh-out-loud funny.” —School Library Journal

Suicide Notes. I overall loved this book. It gave me the sense of a dying figure and teenage tragedy that I longed for in a book. I had the lust I could have wanted and anticipation on how he ended up there. I love love loved this!!

Loved it. This book was so good. I related on so many levels and honestly I would highly recommend this book to all of my friends. I’m glad I went through with reading it!

Relatable!. I can relate to this spectacular book because I was sent to the same type of hospital. Alot sounded familiar, and I found it humorous how closely accurate some of this boom was! I also really loved the different stories of each if the characters, and how Jeff's sarcasm brought many laughs throughout reading. This book is funny, as well as something that can pull on your heart strings a bit. There's some sudden events that you don't really expect to happen that are quite shocking and memorable. Overall this book is great to anyone trying to figure themselves out, anyone suffering from depression, and really just all "moody teens"! 5 stars for sure!

A Must Read!. Thomas Michael Ford never ceases to amaze me. Suicide notes will captivate you from start to finish.

I thought this would perhaps be about actual chronic depression. It turns out that SPOILER the guy is just extremely embarrassed because he’s gay and kissed a guy he shouldn’t have kissed. I was looking for a book about somebody who can actually relate to me rather than somebody who’s just embarrassed/sad. He didn’t want to kill himself because he didn’t think he deserved to live or couldn’t live with the constant pain; he wanted to kill himself because he was embarrassed. Personally I believe it wasn’t very well written either.

Hilarious and Original. One of my favorite books, I could not put it down. Hilarious and witty with good lessons and original ideas. I've read it so many times, it never seems to get old. If you're looking for a humor novel this is the one, its absolutely amazing.

I have others like this….. I can totally relate to this book. I suffer from depression, and i get kind of crazy when I’m near my crush… One time, when I was in fifth grade, I ran across the whole playground 6 times chasing after my crush. I’m not sure If anyone in the book is homophobic, cuz I’m still debating. My therapist says if I keep acting like a psycho I might actually be one, and when I told my girlfriend, Zoie just sent me the song sweet but psycho, she said this is what they meant. Well, I need to learn to shut up for once. Good bye

Recommend to those who struggle.. I was just happy I could relate.

OMG I love this book!!!😍. This book is so amazing but the title makes no sense to me. If you want a book on REAL suicide read suicide diaries by Jessica a carter. But I also request this book 😉

Amazing Read!. This book did NOT disappoint. The story is fantastical told through the eyes of Jeff, a 15 year old who attempted suicide. His sarcasm, and wit never ceases to be amusing. The many turning points in the book are a shock, and were perfectly placed. Overall a 5/5 book.

worth the buy for sure. THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD OMG

I read this forever ago.... Such a good book! I read it when I was about 14-15 and it was so relatable... Absolutely fantastic.

Held me captive!. This book had me asking so many questions throughout the book. The read was well worth it! I would highly suggest this book to someone looking for a great YA read!

Interesting!. It may seem predictable but it’s really not! I was addicted and had to finish asap!

Fantastic. I have read this book about two times already, and it's one of my favorite ones the middle part always gets to me it's one turning point for sure. Jeff is really one great character for teens to relate on and with such a honest opinion. A must read for sure !

Amazing. This book was so so beautiful.

(:. I loved this book

Pretty good, but. This book was very interesting, and i ended up reading it in one night. my main issue with it is that things happened in the plot of this story that would absolutely NEVER happen in an *actual* psych ward. I’m gonna keep this spoiler free, but a lot of things just don’t make sense. why would there only be five kids in a psych ward? why was there super minimal security? why did nobody prevent certain things from happening? this is a facility that’s job is to rehabilitate mentally ill people, why are the patients not being thoroughly watched and protected? strange.

Pretty Good. I thought this book was really good. Even though I couldn’t personally relate it gave me a glimpse of what others may go through regarding arriving the therapist/staff there as well as the people/kids with you. I also love how the author went into detail about the other characters without being too long or too boring. I also love the relationships/friendships between the characters (I personally love the little friendship with the young girl and him.. it was sweet and all around great) I am a person who loves reading but I can only read books written in a certain way, meaning the author kinda needs to write the book as if it was the main characters dairy almost (if that makes any sense) Honestly this was a kinda boring book until chapter 20 which might sound intimating but the chapters are really short, around 2-5 pages long, and that’s when things get spicy and I really couldn’t put the book down after that point, I really was glued. And as always they - the author - made the details short, sweet, and detailed.

Kind of reminds me of "It's kind of a funny story" By Ned Vizzini. Yeah?

Absolutely hooked!. I’m astonished, really. I’m only on page 30 and I already want to read more. I, for one, have a hard time reading if the book isn’t written a certain way. If it’s too confusing for me to read: I lose sight and stop reading. I, personally, might have depression (getting therapy soon to see if that statement is true) and definitely have anxiety. I relate a lot to mc’s reaction to the whole scenario. When I get anxious I revert to sarcasm to sort of help me “get a grip” of myself. Though I’m not as harshly blunt as mc, I am more humorous than anything: I relate to being a “negative Nancy”. This book made me realize that I’m not the only one who uses negativity as an advantage of some sort when anxious. Anyway, I should probably shut up now. Bye bye!

Amazing. This is such an amazing book! 10/10 recommend!!

Great. I never read books but this one i had to read. i found out about this book on tiktok lol. I love it so much, one of the best i’ve ever read.

Insightful!. I loved this book-- quick read, but so insightful and honest! I love the hope this book gives without being hallmark-y. It's real, raw, and yet still inspiring despite its emphasis on the real world!

Loved it. Idk I can go on a huge rant and bring up specifics as to why I love the book but in general this book just made me feel and that’s a good thing in a book. The feeling that it gets you in. I also wanted to note that I liked how the author gives you nothing about the main character at first and even throughout the book because then your mind just fills in the blanks and you just kinda start to relate with him more.

Wow.. I pre-ordered this book & never got it. I wasted $8. Lovely.
