The Dark Tower V by Stephen King Book Summary

Wolves of the Calla is the thrilling fifth book in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series—a unique bestselling epic fantasy quest inspired many years ago by The Lord of the Rings.

In the extraordinary fifth novel in Stephen King’s remarkable fantasy epic, Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World. Their path takes them to the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis, a tranquil valley community of farmers and ranchers on Mid-World’s borderlands.

Beyond the town, the rocky ground rises toward the hulking darkness of Thunderclap, the source of a terrible affliction that is slowly stealing the community’s soul. The Wolves of Thunderclap and their unspeakable depredation are coming. To resist them is to risk all, but these are odds the gunslingers are used to, and they can give the Calla-folken both courage and cunning. Their guns, however, will not be enough.

The tower. This book stays true to Roland and his friends. Looking forward to continue on the beam to the tower.

Stephen King is a Genius!. The entire Dark Tower series is incredible. It literally takes the reader into its own world(s). I've been reading and have read and re-read all of his books many times and love them all. His attention to detail, that same thing critics complain about, is what I love and it's also what really makes his characters and their 'lives' seem so real. In this novel, how Mr. King draws in Father Callahan from Salem's Lot, along with other authors works is incredible. You find yourself, along with Roland, wondering what 'world' you've stumbled across. I must admit reading The Dark Tower series didn't come quickly to me. I mistakenly thought it wouldn't be something I was interested in, I've never been more wrong in my life. As usual Mr. King is amazing! Anyone that's read any of his books, or if The Dark Tower series is your first trip into the mind of Stephen King, your in for the treat, and story of your life.

The series could have ended with Wizard, but...... Wolves is a very good book. I love the new characters and how they are developed. I must say I didn't spend 20 years on this series. I read them straight through. I've read the whole series twice now, so I know what happens. This is the best book of the last 3 in the series. The dark tower is a mystical, magical series. There is no shame in leaving some of it to your mind's eye.

Epic seems too small a word. Long and twisting, with amazing characters as always. The crescendo it builds is second to none.

Review of The Wolves of Calla by Stephen King. Incredibly way too long for the actual story to be told. This is my second reading of the series and I was stuck on this book for at least a year. The first four were completed in a flash. The entire Callahan story was a re-tell and completely irrelevant, but certainly added about 200 pages which is a good thing if your getting paid by the word...after quickly realizing that section of the book was Preacher re-telling 'Salems Lot, flipped through pages as fast as my finger could go. The first few hundred and the beginning of the township of Calla, the battle scene & disappearance of Suzanne/Mia was all it took. Good Grief! - Michael

The best book in the series (so far). The entire series is intriguing and worth re-reading but Wolves of the Calla is my favorite. There is only a story without fluff and wandering passages. It’s like the nitty-gritty of the saga.

Awesome. Series is amazing but I'm very ticked off that I'm missing over 100 pages right before chapter 9 when Overholser is first speaking when they arrive at Calla and I have no idea what I'm missing. I don't know whether to be angry at the app itself or whoever put the book in the app.

Amazing entry. But painfully slow. The ending sequences, and the bows that are tied in the last 200 pages are incredible. But don’t let this one slow you. Get through it there’s much more to see in this beautiful universe.

Seamless and suspenseful, King cannot disappoint. Master of suspense — abundantly clear in this novel. I paused for a bit after wizard and glass, and fully regret waiting to start this book. The way the larger story of the series and the plot of this novel are told together is truly splendid, meshed seamlessly.

Dark Tower Series. I have read all the books but I haven't completed the last one DTV. I really enjoyed the stories and have told many about them and recommend them numerous other readers. now that I own an IPad I may even read them all again!

These stories defy simplistic descriptions.. This series of novels tells an increasingly engrossing tale that is unlike any other story I have read before. Truly wonderful characters with unspeakable depth in a world that is extraordinarily unique while being tantalizingly familiar. I have loved all five stories so far, and eagerly await losing myself in the sixth. Worth every page-turning minute. My only regret is that my compulsion merely draws me closer to the ultimate conclusion, and towards a day not happily immersed in Roland's, and his fellow Gunslinger's, world. If you haven't delved into this series, I highly recommend you do. I can't imagine you would regret it. And certainly not if you are a King fan.

Wolves of Calla. Here is my Spike Jonze circa 1985 review: "I read this book. It was good. I liked it." ...I hope you BMXA fans get the reference...

Genuine master class of a series. Surprises around every corner. Insane world-building and creativity. I will never love another author like I love Stephen King. Must read series before you die.

Wolves of the Calla. As good as any book in the series. Wolves moves smartly and brings in an array of compelling characters who populate a well-told story. Roland matures in this book. If you've read the first four, keep reading!
