Epic. Epic!

Great read. One of the best westerns I've read. Interesting characters and dramatic story. Highly recommend

Excellent. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I loved the movie, but like The Godfather, the book has extra details that make it better & worth reading.

Lonesome Dove. Epic adventure with real insight into the essence of the human soul. As genuinely authentic, exquisitely dramatic and grossly entertaining as any book I’ve read.

Brilliant!. Five stars and one of a kind.

Lonesome Dove. Read it. You’ll love it and you’ll be upset when it ends.

Lonesome Dove. Ok western yarn, but the author should never, never have killed off Gus McCrae. Gus was half the story just like in Mc’s two previous books about these two Texas Rangers. Very disappointing ending, leaving a big hole in the following book, Streets of Laredo. Pulitzer Prize, my backside.

Awesome book!!!. Best western book I have ever read.

Vivid depiction of the wild west. Lonesome Dove is a vivid depiction of the wild west and the men and women who populated it. Unfortunately, the story kind of petered out and left lots of unanswered questions. Perhpas a sequel answers some of them, but gernerally I don’t like weak endings. Otherwise the book was riveting throughout. I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars because of the unsatisfactory ending. — di pinto

My favorite novel. I read this in the late 1980's when I was commuting on BART into San Francisco. I laughed out loud and cried. I never before read or watched a western, not a fan at the time. Don't let the genre deter you from reading this book. This is my favorite novel.

Lonesome Dove Series. This is my all time favorite book. The characters are so deep and easy to get attached to. Larry McMurtry is an amazing writer makes you feel like you are there living with the characters. The plot is great and you will be so stuck in the book you will find any excuse to keep reading!

Amazing Book. I know the writer of this book and it is the BEST BOOK EVER!!!

One of my all time favorites. Believe people when they tell you this book is Great. Its probably better than all the other books you've read and think are so good. This has got to be in the top 3 favorite novels I've ever read. If you get past the 1st chapter or 2, you will start to see why. It's not one of those books that starts off running at a hundred miles an hour but when it gets going, it doesn't let up.

Wow! What an epic tale!. Don’t like westerns? I generally don’t either, but THIS book is my all-time favorite novel. No hokey, stereotypical, bull that’s normally associated with the genre in this one (or any of McMurty’s work for that matter) - just grit, dust, love and loss. There are characters for everyone; white, black, young, old, male and female, and if this story doesn’t make you laugh, cry, wince, and hope - check your pulse because you might be dead. Long live my literary hero: Captain Gus!

Lonesome Dove. One of if not the best book I have ever read. Just finished it again for the 11 time. The characters fill me with laughter and sorrow. The type of people I would have loved to hang out with. I fully expect to read it 20 more times. In the immortal words of Augustus McCray " it's been a party"

A rare find. Lonesome Dove is one of the few books that I can heartily recommend to almost anyone. It's a real page turner, full of characters you'll soon wish you knew in real life...and a few you'll be glad you don't. This book is at the top of my list. Enjoy!

Amazing Read. One of the best, most captivating books I've ever read. A masterpiece indeed.

Lonesome Dove. This book is a real page turner. Even if you don't care for westerns you will enjoy this book, the characters are timeless and the story is impeccable. The author is a genius and I will continue to follow the lonesome dove saga more than once

Lonesome Dove. The friendship between Captain Call and August McCrae makes this book. You can't help but be fascinated with the characters.

great movies of this book. Now ive never read this book but ive seen the movies and they are my favorite movies of all time

Gus. I have read and reread this book many times. When my husband and I were trying for a kid, I came to him one day and said “I have a name. Think literature” he immediately knew “Gus”. We ended up with a boy but whether girl or boy they would have been Gus. I bawl my eyes out every time I read it. The first couple hundred pages are a bit slower, but once you’re into it it’s so hard to put down. If naming my kid after it isn’t a good endorsement, I’m not sure what would be.

FUNNY AND BRAVE. Larry McMurtry is great. I read the entire series.

Everything. I've read everything this man has published. But I'm sorry I read Lonesome Dove...because now I don't have it to look forward to! So I've read it again and again...and watched the great TV series 5 times as well. This is some of the finest English language ever put on paper. Absolutely the very finest!!!! A masterpiece!

Close your eyes........ Can you see them? Gus and Clara in the orchard? Deets holding the baby? Blue Duck dragging Lorena north? This classic will take you there, I promise, and you will want to come back again and again, as I did this, the 4th time I have read it.

Lonesome Dove.. Best book/movie ever written hands down.

Best read in a long time.. I loved this book. It has been ages since I have read a book that I could not put down.

Lonesome Dove gave us Call & Gus. Exceptional book, it will always be one of my favorites. LM knows how to create such remarkable characters that leave life long impressions on us.

A book Americans will love. Racist, misogynistic, and violent, this is a book Americans will love. If this is what wins the Pulitzer Prize I will never again use that endorsement as an indication of a good book.

Love it!. Lonesome Dove is still one of my all time favorite books. With vivid details and a cast of rich characters, it has sucked me in through many re-reads.

Classic. What can I say. Just read it. Time well spent.

Lonesome Dove. This book was very long! But I really enjoyed it. The characters are well developed. One mans’ stubbornness and inability to show emotion changes to life of many men

Epic. The Author spoils most of the book at the beginning of this version so maybe skip it before you start. Even so this book was one of the best books I have ever read.

Great book.. Complex characters and an unbelievably exciting story. Best american western novel, period.
