Dead Zero Book Reviews
Dead Zero by Stephen Hunter Book Summary
From New York Times bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Hunter comes a thriller that pits former Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger against the only man who might be able to outshoot him.
A marine sniper team on a mission in tribal territories on the Afghan-Pakistan border, Whiskey 2-2 is ambushed by professionals using the latest high-tech shooting gear. Badly wounded, the team’s sole survivor, Gunnery Sergeant Ray Cruz, aka “the Cruise Missile,” is determined to finish his job. He almost succeeds when a mystery blast terminates his enterprise, leaving a thirty-foot crater where a building used to be—and where Sergeant Cruz was meant to be hiding.
Months pass. Ray’s target, an Afghan warlord named Ibrahim Zarzi, sometimes called “The Beheader,” becomes an American asset in the region and beyond, beloved by State, the Administration, and the Agency. He arrives in Washington for consecration as Our Man in Kabul.
And that brings Ray Cruz out of hiding.
Swagger, the legendary hero of seven of Hunter’s novels from Point of Impact to last year’s bestselling I, Sniper, is recruited by the FBI to stop the Cruise Missile from reaching his target. The problem is that the more Swagger learns about what happened in Zabol, the more he questions the US government’s support of Zarzi and the more he identifies with Cruz as hunter instead of prey.

Dead Zero. I am a sniper currently assigned to a municipal police force and was forced to take a shot on a suspect on my first deployment, which resulted in his death. I found this book, as his others, to be very accurate when it comes not only to the craft of sniping, but also to the roller coaster of emotions one experiences when the day cones to do your duty....Keep up the good work Stephen...
Hero to Zero. As is the case in most series, the first book is usually the best. The BL Swagger books are no different with Point of Impact being the best BL Swagger book. The books that followed the first one have been so close, and I love the BL Swagger character. I have binge read the rest of them in the past few weeks. Granted the last few books have been weaker, but still very entertaining. This was the first Swagger book that I struggled with. I almost quit, but curiousity got the best of me to see how it would turn out so I stuck with it. Not sure if I’m going to continue to the next book. But its been a good run.
Dead Zero. This was such a departure from his other books, this was so bad I can't believe that he wrote this. I was embarressed for him.
Dead Zero. If you haven’t read the Bob Lee Swagger books by Stephen Hunter, you’re cheating yourself. They are great!
Dead Zero. Dead Zero is another outstanding thriller written by Mr. Hunter. Bob Lee Swagger is an American hero, a character who embodies all of the qualities of a true superhero. Well written, exciting and a great read! Semper fi
Dead Spot. The book starts out good but hits a dead spot in the middle
Dead Zero. Stephen Hunter at his best. Could not put down. Stayed up late, so immersed in the story. When finished, disappointed. Hoping for more with more story about the history between Swagger and Cruz
Dead Zone. I have been late in reading Stephen Hunter books. This was a first for me but not the last! Dead Zone is one of those wondrous books you do not want to put down. However, it ended too soon. I wanted it to go on forever! Cwrj
Dead Zero. Dead Zero is right! I very much doubt if this dull storyline and appalling dialogue was even written by Stephen Hunter. How terribly sad.
Dead zero. A real spellbinder. I could not set it down. I enjoyed the mil speak and the plot. I look forward the next book!
Generally a fan. Not this time. Too obvious a story. Bad guys too simplistic. Old Mr Swagger getting a little long in the tooth. Maybe time to retire the old boy.
Dead Zero. Another great one from Stephen Hunter. Not his best in the character series but keep them coming.
