Paradise Lost by John Milton Book Summary

"Paradise Lost". In addition to its imaginative use of language, the poem features a powerful and sympathetic portrait of Lucifer, the rebel angel who frequently outshines his moral superiors. With Milton's deft use of irony, the devil makes evil appear good, just as satanic practices may seem attractive at first glance. "Paradise Lost" has exercised enormous influence on generations of artists and their works, ranging from the Romantic poets William Blake and Percy Bysshe Shelley to Joseph Haydn's oratorio "The Creation" and J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings".

Honestly..... Really hard to follow along

The book is God vs. Satan.. The novel is very climatic with religious overtones of angels and demons.

Paradise Lost. [please ignore this]

eh. ok itā€™s a good idea and i can tell that heā€™s super smart but the language man. i can barely understand it because itā€™s so wordy that when i get to the end of a paragraph/stanza i canā€™t remember what it started with. itā€™s not like i donā€™t have the mental capacity to understand itā€™s just wordy that itā€™s easy to forget what started the whole monologue

Paradise Lost by John Milton.. Amazing how much influenced this fiction has on intellectual people so much that they believe it to be true and dwell on it, when is not a biblical fact.

A classic worth reading!. I had heard mixed things about ā€œParadise Lostā€. On the one hand, I had heard it spoken of in a derogatory fashion, with much eye-rolling. A boring, long-winded book read more as a class requirement than anything. On the other, I have heard it referred to as a literary masterpiece that was, and still is, very influential in itsā€™ scope and character portrayal, being referenced in poetry, art, books (like Mary Shellyā€™s ā€œFrankensteinā€), and even Star Trek. My personal opinion is: itā€™s a challenging yet satisfying read. The story, while based on the very familiar Biblical account of Adam and Eveā€™s first Sin and subsequent expulsion from Eden, takes an interesting look at the devil and his reaction to both his damnation and (in a very interesting way) his initial meeting with Eve. On the down-side, to say that Milton is a ā€œname-dropperā€ is an understatement. He has a really bad habit of making way too many analogies to describe one event, and fills page after page with them.

Testimony of Jesus Christ. This beautifully written epic gives great testimony to and perspective of the important centrality of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of mankind from death and as the Savior from sin on conditions of faith in Him and repentance and obedience through His grace. This was definitely an uplifting and strengthening retelling, especially the tenth (last) section.

Quoted in The Mortal Instruments. First of all; Who makes a ten year old read this??? Second of all; definitely recommendable (if I knew anyone who reads and has the same religious beliefs) I Do like hearing it in The Mortal Instruments series and knowing what itā€™s talking about though

Bad Transfer. This version was obviously made with an OCR program and not edited. The other free version with the beige cover is the Gutenberg Project version.

10/12 books... Not good enough!. I downloaded this wanting to look up again Satan's soliloquy in Eden, so imagine my surprise when I found it eventually in book 8 rather than nine! A quick look showed me that instead of the correct 12 this contains just 10 books. I'm not sure which are missing but many of the rest are incorrectly labeled! Get a different copy!

Genius. While there is much to question about Milton's character and intentions in paradise lost there is no escaping that this is a work of art.

Great read. Paradise Lost is exceptional; unlike anything I have ever read. In combining the worlds of classic mythology and Christian Evangelism Milton has created a hybrid genre more enthralling than its constituents. His prose is beautiful and reads effortlessly. Furthermore, for readers acquainted with the bible, Milton's refreshing slant on Christianity enlivens many of its traditionally passive, and oftentimes dusty, aspects.

All you need to know about mankind. Paradise lost if a psychic history of mankind that traverses the ground of the Id, the ego and the desire for the other up to the great repression wherein mankind as Adam and Eve leave hit timeless state of bliss, expelled from Eden to the hard world of historical labour and crime.
