Sing You Home Book Reviews
Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult Book Summary
From the award-winning, #1 New York Times bestselling author whom USA TODAY calls a “master of the page-turner,” comes the spectacular story of a woman’s complex quest to form a family.
Every life has a soundtrack. All you have to do is listen.
Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter’s life. There’s the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant.
For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love.
In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people—even those she loves and trusts most—don’t want that to happen.
Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. It’s about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And it’s about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family.

Sing You Home. Beautifully written, heartwarming, made me feel there is still people that care about others no matter what public opinion is. Thank you for a great read!!!!!
Sing You Home. I'm enjoying the read so far, but my goodness, the music is AWFUL! The woman is a TERRIBLE singer! Update...this was my first Jodi Picoult book. I didn't read any reviews before I started reading so I didn't know it was a lesbian couple. I thought Jodi did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, and I found myself rooting for both sides, because even tho I disagree with the lifestyle, I believe that is only because the bible says I'm supposed to. If my daughter told me the same thing, I'd have to behave like Dara did tho. Great book...I could NOT put it down. A terrific author that kept surprising me! So I will upgrade from 3 to 4 stars! Still hate the music tho! :-)
Awesome read. Excellent book that kept me wanting more.
Sing you Home. So beautifully written and thought provoking.
Loved. I love Jodi's books and this one did not disappoint! Could not put it down!!!
GREAT. This was a powerful story and so well-written. I love Jodi's books, and this was one of her best.
Unexpected. I had no idea what this book was about but know that Picoult's books are always wonderful. She did an amazing job showing the emotional stress that comes with infertility. I was amazed to see the turns the book took and the wonderful way Picoult dealt with the subject matter. My only question is what about Lucy. I hope there is a follow up book.
Sing you home. Horrible. Couldn't even finish it
Excellent!. I loved this book!
Zoe's greedy desires. I didn't personally like Zoe. She was a very selfish person in her first marriage about wanting a baby and going to extremes to get what she wants and it drove to her divorce with Max. I have seen this before in real-life with a certain family member in my family. If Zoe couldn't have a baby in her second marriage, I don't think her marriage would have survived as well. It was a good book (and probably Picoult's most challenging book to write?!) but it needed a more realistic ending...an ending when Zoe finally accepts the fact that she can't always get what she wants.
Sing You Home. This book held me captivated all the way through, I couldn't put it down. I'd fall asleep with it in my hands at night and wake up with it laying across me in the morning. I read from morning till night till I'd finished reading it. I loved the flow of the book and the ending. I think that there should be a sequel to it! Or a movie! Write on Jodi! :) Cindy
Sing you home. Another great book by Picoult. I love how real her stories are, and not loaded with unpronounceable words. Can't wait to read the next one.
Wonderful. Love all of her books but this may be best yet. I keep reading it over and over.
Mind provoking. Even though I don't believe in this lifestyle, the book made me to be more tolerant and not judgmental of gays. It also confirmed my thoughts on whether or not someone can be born gay.
Sing You Home. This has to be the best book of Jodi's that I've read, and I've read quite a few of them. It was hard to put down. It was a gripping story that told both sides of the issue with very little bias. Human relationships are very complicated at times and extremely painful as well. Jodi's ability to build the characters into believable people help to bring the story alive. She doesn't waste a lot of time describing scenery, but rather uses stories from her characters' pasts to give the reader a sense of who they are at their core. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my friends.
Overdone. Although heartwarming, I found this book lacking in literary complexity. It was entertaining at times but interspersed with tedious passages and horrendously overdone characterization and an overdone portrayal of each character's mood. Great for young readers, I'm sure, but not as subtle as I had hoped for.
Sing you home. Good book but the ending was not my favorite. It was rushed!
Makes you think hard!. As usual, Picoult takes challenging subject matter and writes a book you can't put down! This wasn't my favorite book by her, but i wasn't disappointed. I found myself really taken with many of the characters and wished it wouldn't end. The music downloads were an interesting addition as well.
Awesome. I didn't know what to expect in this book but by far the best book I have read in a long Time I found myself cheering on for each character no matter what ending was brilliant
Sing You Home. Loved the song before each chapter. Couldn't put it down after the trial began.
Wow. By far the HARDEST novel I have ever had to read! I cried at the beginning and continued crying until the end. The subject hits the worst place in you, thinking people could be so cruel as to go the lengths of carrying SIGNS saying "God hates gays!" I cried at every point in this novel and I am still crying now!! This literally hits the softest spot in me and I personally get affected because I know gay people in this world, the hate some of them have gone through, and this story hits my sensitive spot. I hate the pastor, he calls himself christian? HA what a joke! The lawyer was doing his job, trying to help Max win, but the pastor is the real enemy here. I hate, hate, HATE that man! Great novel, loved this book. Worth a read if you can handle so much hate coming from 1 novel. It was a struggle getting through it, but I am glad I did.
Easy to read and thought-provoking. While somewhat predictable, this was an interesting and well covered story of some very real issues of our time. While at times it seemed a bit of a stretch that these characters did what they did...all in all the book kept my attention and made me want to know what happened next. Even though it ended the way I thought it would, it was satisfying. The music was a nice touch.
Best book I've read up to now!. This book had been recommended to me with great enthusiasm, but it was exceeded my already very high expectations. Jodi depicted music therapy, lesbianism, and love all together with impreccable grace. I cannot think of a single person I would not recommend this book to. This was one of the best and smartest inversions I have ever made, personally. A million thumbs up!! All the way from the music therapy department at Berklee ;)
Sing You Home. I have read all Jodi Picoult's book and this one is by far, my favorite. I had trouble putting it down!
Most insight. This book has the most depth and compassion in describing the struggles of a gay relationship in dealing with fundamentalist Christians. The experiences of the main protagonists are genuine and true to real life. There is so much love expressed, both in the musical excerpts and in descriptions of the characters's lives. I recommend this book for GLTB folk and everyone who cares about them and those who wish to grow in understanding.
Sing you home. This was a wonderful informative yet touching book. I would highly recommend it!
Good...but. This novel was not as tight as her other books. It is almost three books in one, and it is a bit jarring during the transitions. It is still a good read, but the organization and narrative are somewhat contrived.
Wow!. Author writes from two divergent viewpoints in a way that is convincing. As a gay woman, I appreciated very much the way in which the gay argument was formulated. A lot has happened politically in the short time since this book was penned. So much so that parts seem a bit anachronistic, but what author would have predicted the emergence of a total turnaround in social and even some religious values that happened overnight. In future editions, some mention of this phenomenon would be valuable.
Edgy and compelling. Another book with controversial topics, twists and turns. Again, she leaves some loose ends making you wonder about characters and yearning for a sequel.
My favorite author. Jodi Picoult has an incredible talent for expressing emotions that make her characters and situations very real. I can't wait for the next book.
Sing You Home. Beautiful story with Ted twists and turns that lead right where one hopes... The heart of a family.
Sing you home. Jodi has done it again! It is enough that her stories touch you but the life she breathes into the characters leaves you feeling you have been touched by so much more.
Great Read!. This book... Indescribable. It has shifted my views on relationships and religion. It is a MUST READ for anyone who has even the faintest of heart! Jodi at her best!!
Sing you home. This novel was a surprise. Controversial subject matter, not what I expected when I started the book. It was eye opening and enjoyable. When I realized the subject matter I was prepared to have this be her first book I didn't like. I was wrong. I really enjoyed it. Tastefully done.
sing you home. Makes you still believe that what's right will always happen. If only that were true! At least in this novel, Jodi Piccoult makes you believe that the world still works out for the best. Wish she would write a book for my life. All would be good.
FABULOUS!. Jodi's best book yet!! It's gripping and perfect down to the last chapter. Perfect portrayal of a lesbian relationship and Vanessa and Zoe are wonderfully written. Also, even when Max is at his worst, he is still relatable as a struggling alcoholic who finds God. Wonderful read.
Sing you home. This book is so amazing I don't want to finish it I started reading it in July of 2014 I love this book I just don't want to finish it
Nausome!. I am now on my third Jodi Piccoult book. This is the book that got me interested in her writing. Not everyone will like the content, because of the topics, but she seems to want to write for everyone! Including those who have had a hard time in the world due to their sexuality, personality, etc.. I don't believe this book was a testament to how Christians are or how Lesbians are... But it's someone's story. It's sad and funny all at the same time. I absolutely would recommend this to anyone who is very afraid of coming out or is supportive to anyone who is LGBTQ (questioning, if you were wondering). What a great addition of the soundtrack! This book describes some very unfortunate scenarios, but overall it's a happy ending. Please read with an open mind!
Sing You Home. A wonderful story ...I couldn't put it down!
Big let down. I was excited to read this book cause I loved her other books and the music therapy in the description intrigued me.. However, the description gave no hint that the book would contain a lesbian couple and a horrible portrayal of Christians.. I read till I couldn't stand reading it anymore and was left super disappointed that after House Rules and My Sister's Keeper, I bought this book and was super let down.
Sing You Home. As with all her books, you become involved emotionally and dread the ending!
Sing You Home. Enlightening and thought provoking. Engaging as were her other novels. As always, well researched with an unexpected turn of events. I highly recommend this book!
Sing you home. Great book
Sing you home. I didn't feel this was as gripping as Jodi Picoult can be. The ending was just wrapped up so quickly and no real twist. All the discord about homosexuality and then bliss at the end. No real validity for me.
Sing You Home. I really loved it. The characters are developed and real. Just wish I knew what happened to Lucy.
Sing me Home. Excellent read!!!!!
Sing You Home. I found the book to be righteous and provocative. I could not stop reading and ended in a smile.
Simply perfect. Thought provoking and riveting as all Picoult's books are. The ending was perfection.
Awful. This has got to be the worst book I have ever tried to read. I WISH I DIDN'T SPEND MY MONEY!
Great as always. Great book... Hardly put it down!
