Cold Vengeance by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child Book Summary

Twelve years ago, Special Agent Pendergast's beloved wife was murdered during an African safari -- and now, he's on a quest for revenge.
Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers--a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana--he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.

Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined--and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood . . . may be a horrific lie.

EXCELLENT !!!!. This book was sooo good I can hardly wait for the next one to come out!!! I couldnt stop reading!! Wonderful writers! Obviously, very educated men. SUPERB!!

An honest review when most aren't.. I thought this second book in the new Helen trilogy is one of PC best yet and is up their with the Diogenes trilogy. For those saying there was no closure, it's because it's part two of three. And someone said this book is 300 pages shorter than their other books... Almost all their books are only 300-350 pages anyways! If you're a Pendergast fan, you will love this book and if you read Fever Dream (which I highly recommend) , you will love it even more!

Cold vengeance. All that I have come to expect from Preston and Childs!

Cold Vengeance. I can hardly wait for these authors new books. This one did not disappoint. I lost many hours of sleep because because I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait for the next installment. Alicia

Cold Vengeance. By boysmumas Excellent novel with Pendergast and all characters of these terrific novels. Why must we subject ourselves to these Gideon Sword and Gideon Corpse novels. They are boring and dull. Now I must wait until December to finish my quest with Pendergast. We don't need anymore characters in anymore plots to divert our thoughts from Pendergast. You've got a great thing going please don't spoil it with introducing anymore investigators as diversions with other characters. Stick with a proven track record.

Really an excellent read.. One of the best in the Pendergast series.

Cold Vengeance. E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T! Am anxious to read the final book in this trilogy.

Cold Vengenc. GEEZE, really? This is no way to level a suspense novel without promise on another promise of a follow up. Hated t he ending, give me the chance to answer all the unanswered ????????????????

Cold Nengeance. For a more accurate rating, I need more than five stars☺️

Cold Vengence. The amount of characters introduced and the plot itself was unnecessarily complex and left many questions i.e. loose ends. Unfortunately, as a result the reader really invests in the story, hoping for resolution and explanation, only to be let down with a disappointing and seemingly inconclusive ending.

Cold Vengeance. This book was something my bride and I waited for since we listened to Fever Dream together while driving. It was superpbly written and masterfully read. All the thrills and spills we love from a Pendergast novel.

Louise. As usual a fantastic Pendergast. I couldn't put down this book or any of the others, can't wait for the next one. Pendergast is my hero, and what an inspiration of will.

Cold Vengeance. Excellent, fast moving, page turner.

They are slipping. I think that as a team Preston and Child may have reached their sell by date. I have found their recent individual efforts much better than their last two collaborations. I am a big Pendergast fan and have read every novel in the series. In this one the action seem much more contrived, particularly some of the turn of events. Too many things appeared out of nowhere to thwart either the hero or villains and move the story along. I will certainly read the third novel in this trilogy, but I will not be as nearly as anxious for its release as I have been for others in the Pendergast series.

Disappointing. As a fan of the Pendergast books, this was the only one that was really a let down. Some of the "action" scenes went on for so long that I started to skim them. Still, it would have been a good read, except that the end did not just leave the reader hanging. It left the whole story hanging. Yes, it's part of a trilogy, but NO conclusion at all? Two major characters are in life-threatening situations and… DONE. That's a cheap shot. I'd have waited to buy two books at once if I had known that this one did not stand on it's own.

i like potatoes. it has a weapon on the cover.....thats notta niiccceee......... i like fluffy nice things and this isnt fluffy and nice looking but im sure its creative....

Love Inspector Pendergast. My husband and I have read every book Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child have written. We are never disappointed. This book was just another example of the skill and genius of these authors. Please keep them coming.

Great book!. Great read. Captivating to the end. Read it in a mere day or two. The characters are colorful. The scenes are suspenseful. The plots and sub-plots are clever. The new twists in the story with tie-ins from the past books are great for fans. I have to say that I find Pendergast to be more enjoyable than Gideon so far. Doug and Linc, scan your book, your editor didn't pick up a typo that you were to "undog" something I believe around chapter 45. It was a true pleasure to read this book. I look forward to the developments with Helen and Pendergast.

Less than expected...for a much awaited novel. After buying a Pendergast novel by chance on an iTunes summer ad, I was hooked on the series. I spent the rest of the summer reading the entire line up- only to finish a week before Cold Vengeance was scheduled for release. I couldn't wait....but the authors should have. Not only is the book shorter than is standard for this series (by about 300-400 pages), the book is significantly lacking in the depth and quality which I had to come to love from Preston & Child. I felt like this was a disappointing update on the Pendergast characters, and needed more work before meeting a pre-scheduled release date. I only hope the next promised book restores the authors to the high quality we expect...

Cold Vengence. Great read - bummed that I have to get the third book for answers and resolution. But I will be getting it as soon as it comes out!

Horrible excuse for a Preston/Child Novel. What a lame effort on the part of these two exceptional writers. It's as if some slothful, distracted personage violently inhabited their minds, and produced this disjointed, utterly unsatisfying book. And who edited this train wreck? The plot is jerky and melodramatic, the characters are pathetically un-compelling, and Preston//Child have stripped Pendergast of his mystery - a stake through the heart of this series. What a departure from the craft and complexity of their early works, like The Cabinet of Curiosities. If you love these writers, don't buy this book - you'll regret it.

Cold Vengeance. There was a great deal of effort put into writing this book with nothing being produced at the end. A lot happened through the telling of this tale and it was all presented by these excellent authors in great detail but it did not end. Leaves you hanging. This was much like the old Saturday Serials at the movie theaters - come back next week to see what happens to our hero. Hope their next offering is more on a par with their previous titles.

luisa. couldn't put it down!

Cold Vengeance. When I realized there was another Agent P book out there, I could not wait until I had my grubby digital hands on it! Was fantastic. Read it on every lunch hour, and as soon as I got home before going to bed. Just finished-Friday, May 17, 2013. Thank you and I eagerly await the next book with my favorite Special Agent!

Cold Vengence. This series is getting old. The ending sucked!! Was dissatisfied.

This was one of their crappiest books.. Pathetic. Their constant use of an abnormal vocabulary, and I have a sizable vocabulary, is constantly annoying, I have continued to try to look at it as an exercise in expanding my education, as I look up stupidly obscure words and phrases, that could easily be said a million other was, but it breaks up the action at least twice each chapter. Yes, I could guess at the meaning, from the context, but I'm not that type of person. I enjoy being positive as to what the exact meaning is. They don't seem to find it important to pick up, in the exact moment if suspenseful action the last book left off, even though that moment has been set up as something pivotal... so you just never know what that cliffhanger moment was! It's quite annoying, in all, but THIS BOOK AND ENDING TAKES THE CAKE! The characters behave in was completely contrary to the established behaviors from all the other books! It beggars the imagination! What rubbish.

Muy bueno. Una novela de suspenso que no pude dejar de leer....

Cold vengeance. A very good read but if I had known it was part of several sequels I would never have purchased it and I won't be buying the next one
