The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx Book Summary

It has since been recognized as one of the world's most influential political manuscripts. Commissioned by the Communist League, it laid out the League's purposes and program. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle (historical and present) and the problems of capitalism, rather than a prediction of communism's potential future forms.

A Very Wanting Book. Karl Marx writes this book and use phrases to make himself sound smarter than he really is. The Third Chapter is confusing when he’s talking about different kinds of Socialism that requires context from history in Karl’s time. Communism has killed more people in history than any other form of government. And the fact that Karl wants to abolish things such as family, religion, and private ownership is something we should NOT aspire to do. I read this book with an open mind and came to the conclusion this was the writing of a man who claims to be representing the working class but in reality is just the rambling of a mad man trying to live a fantasy. Give this a read if you want, but don’t be surprised if you’ve come to the conclusion at the end of this book that things such as Communism doesn’t work out without having to exterminate a LOT of people in name of Revolution.

Quit ideology dumping in the ratings.. Read the darn book, quit posting about how “muh communism bad” or “muh communism good”. Reading is good, so read.

Don’t diss dead people haters. A (couple) words to those who are dissing the CM and it’s ideologies and worshipping capitalism in its place: The US and other first world countries have all some aspect of socialism in their government. Why else would we have weekends (didn’t exist until USSR since too many workers were leaving the country due to the sheer madness of their bosses) healthcare (didn’t exist until USSR also) and 8 hour workdays (previously 14-18 hrs)? The CCC, invented by president Roosevelt that saved the country from the Great Depression was a clearly socialist idea! If you are to understand capitalist and/or communism as a intellectual, this book is a must read. BTW in my personal opinion this book is bloody fun with all the blood gore and explosions and stuff. Even though I hope that communism comes peacefully. Please don’t arrest me🥺🥺🥺🥺

amazing. absolutely stunning work. i hadn’t begun to even think that i would agree with pretty much, if not all of it.

The communist manifesto. Good for want I need and this is want I needed.

The Other Model. In a word, balance, that is the reason I read “The Communist Manifesto.” Marx and Engels identified early on that unfettered capitalism leads to gross imbalances. We need only look at income distribution, growth charts, and every other economic metric to see how imbalance escalates. Is it any wonder that gig work, quiet quitting, over employment, and anti-work are some of the most popular topics on social networks. The class struggle Marx and Engels discuss was itself played out poetically in the Pandemic struggle between the Everyman investor and hedge funds during the GameStop trading war. Capitalism unchecked is an Ouroboros that consumes everything and itself. In our case, the culture, agency, language, and identity of people and countries. Merging all into one mute, bland, indistinguishable whole that means you never really leave home when you travel. Everything gets commodified, even culture. On a recent trip to Mexico I saw more American restaurants in the city center than local ones. I don’t see how the McDonalds-ification of everything is better for the human experience. But I don’t see a Humanist balance in Communism either. So, do we hit reset as Tyler Durden called for in “Fight Club?” Do we try the Nordic models that have lead to consistently high happiness index scores across the region? What about circular economies, b-corporations, adaptive reuse, and union resurgence? All are points Marx and Engels would have likely taken up in a modern revision of their manifesto. Making me wonder if they would have put forward more of softer call to action than revolutionary angle they have here. Especially given the way in communist experiments have played out; though encumbered by western forces. Where do we find balance? The authors demonstrate that capitalism is an engine of unparalleled growth but don’t offer a compelling structure of replacement that would pull the majority with them without burning everything to the ground. They even acknowledge that despotism is a natural part of the process to a Communist state. Not very inspiring. Had they focused on their core theme of exploitation of the worker and devised regulations that work within the current structure it would have at least been a stepping stone to something better. The again, they argue even against that approach in their analysis of movements that came before. My own ideas for an overhaul of Capitalism is not an answer I can fit neatly here but would gladly discuss over some drinks and structured debate. But the questions have to be asked and thus the reading must be done. It’s a controversial book, but one that will at least ask you to objectively observe your relationship with work and capitalism. 150 years after initial publication, you can’t deny that some of their observations where prophetic.

Interesting. Is it just me or does this predict World War II?

Must Read Book. This book by Karl Marx properly explains communism. Marx is one of the Fathers of Communism. The reason why I give it one star, is because it was written by a raving lunatic.

Karl Marx is a Genius!!!!!. Abolish all private property! Abolish the bourgeois! Proletarians rise!!!! POTATOES FOREVER!!!!!!!

Wake Up Call for a nicer foreseeable Future. Excellent manuscript that could have changed parts of the hidden past.

Some Thoughts. I just want to say that Communism written in this manifesto is vastly different from the claimed Communist government that the Soviet Union, China, etc. have implemented. On one hand, demonization by capitalist states have played a role, but also the Communist countries themselves have diverged from the path laid out by Marx and Engel. In frank terms, communism is not for poor countries. Although, throughout history, it was the poorest countries (Soviet Union in First World War, China during Japanese Invasion, Vietnam in Cold War) that have chosen communism, that’s not how the writers of the Manifesto wanted it. Communism is the next form of capitalism. It is the next step in society after the full maturity of capitalism. Communism isn’t poor people rising up in a poor country, it’s poor workers rising up in a fully developed capitalist economy. Finally, the concept of a communist government is redundant. Communism calls for the disintegration of the government itself ( I know, Stalin and Mao would not be happy if you tell them that, but it’s what Marx and Engels called for). Communism in practice is and will be unsuccessful if the same approach is taken, but I believe it is possible if it was actually capitalist countries that evolve into communism. That would, however, not be in the near future, but I wouldn’t rule it out.

Communists killed millions of people!!!!!!. Communists killed millions of people!!!!!! Communists killed millions of people!!!!!! Communists killed millions of people!!!!!! Communists killed millions of people!!!!!! Do you want your family to be next???? Stay away!!!!

This should be standard literature in American schools.. The Manifesto of the Communist Party is the answer to all questions and misconceptions about communism. Except for maybe “Do I still get to keep my iPhone?” The answer is yes. It just won’t be made because the worker has to in order to pay rent. It will be made because somebody loves to make them and others need to use them. ☭

The Communist Manifesto. This is but a purely scholastic exercise. A man may develop the most marvelous plan for all the rest of mankind with all the purest and most altruistic intentions, but it still remains true that this one man is planning the lives of every other single being using his own thoughts, feelings, and understanding. Karl Marx was a monumental egotist. He replaced God with.... himself.

The Communist Manifesto. Very nice, would like to read the sequel of this book, though.

Different Perspective. It’s time to abandon this form of thinking as it has never proven effective.

An essential “1 star” read. It’s important to know our history and understand the evil we are facing today and how relevant this particular manifesto is in our political, cultural, and educational world. From communism derive its “daughter” - feminism - and its “grandchild” - gender dysphoria.

Great read!. Though by all means controversial by modern day standards, and incredibly outdated ideology. It makes for great historical insight, and the conception and spread of communist ideals. Definitely worth your time! Highly recommend!

Wow. I love this analysis of the working class in relation the status quo. I don’t agree with everything but I understand why the points I disagree with were made. The cycle needs to end. The workers get stronger every time but so does the ruling class! It may be time.

Genius. Karl Marx is based

Deluded. Marx seems to have never met a real human being before.

A must read. To understand the thought process, this is a must read for any student for life. Some thoughts written back in the day ring so true to this day.

Wonderful!. This helped me restart a communist government under the rule of our glorious president Chester Cheeto!

Наконец-то я снова русский. Наконец-то я снова русский, да здравствует СССР

My Critique On ‘The Communist Manifesto’. The Communist Manifesto belongs in the rat-infested garbage cans of the ash heap of history. His concept may have worked back in the 1800s, but I would argue that it wouldn’t work in today’s society because land is more of a commodity now than it has ever been. On the basis of religion, millions of people around the world embrace some sort of religion as a means of reliance and comfort. Even though Marx was an atheist, religionists back then would not want to follow his economic idea because communism blocks out all religions. To be more specific, communism is an atheist theory. I think Marx was a relatively smart person, but he should have cited newspapers in his manifesto to back up his radical claims with hard and logical evidence so that way future generations could determine if he is more right or wrong. He uses a lot of historical facts and examples to plead his opinion, but I think he could’ve gone more since what he wrote was a political and economic doctrine that is very popular today. Overall, I would be lying if I said he didn’t have a strong opinion, because he did and he seemed to have succeeded in naming out the flaws of capitalism in his work.

Four stars. Interesting

This aged well. If you are looking for practical solutions or detailed systems of socialism, you will not find it here, but even without that, this manifesto manages to accomplish a lot in such a short time. Before we can consider policies and political solutions, we must first consider the end of politics and the nature of human life. Despite the abscence of economic evalutions and speculation, Marx manages to raise several reasonable criticisms of capitalism, I was particularly satisfied with his commentary on the economic cycle of capitalism. While capitalism has been hailed as an economic success, it’s quite odd that we have come to predict and expect this economy’s failure, and as Marx points out, this failure is found in the very foundations of capitalism. Innovation and competition are continually destroying industries, and new markets rise from their graves. In this way, we can see that capitalism profits off its own failures, and it’s evident that capitalistic bourgeois not only make enemies with the proletariat but also with themselves. Capitalism has been sustained for centuries, and some might consider that a success, but how much of this success is owed to socialist policies, like minimum wages, the 8 hour work day, and workplace regulations? As a social democrat, its my belief that capitalism has survived as long as it has because of its growing sympathy to socialist ideas.

The difference between communism and socialism. Communism is a dictatorship that owns everything watches its people. Communism also favored a violent overthrowing of the government. Socialism favored a peaceful integration of government and industry and social services. They wanted a 50/50 half government owned industry and half private businesses. That later turned into social democracy such as in scandinavia.

Trash ideas. I can’t believe there’s still brainwashed people who believe this guy fr

communism. the motherland will be reestablished soon thanks to Karl

Great read. As a staunch-anti communist, I think this is a great read that exposes Marx and Engels as semi-educated and incoherent and their ideology as radical, not founded in reality, and misunderstanding human nature, history, and development. The constructs that Marx tries to apply to human history (class struggle, world becoming proletariat-based) are so primitive and wrong. This is a book that everyone needs to read.

Это настоящее произведение искусства. Маркс истинный бог. Осыпая этот мир правдой и только правдой. Я не понимаю, почему этому не преподают в каждом школьном округе и используются для воспитания хороших, чистых коммунистических детей. Как и я

Bad solutions. Accurately describes socio-economic problems but offers bad solutions

A decent and quick read, but a little outdated.. I was always curious about the values of Communism, but never really understood them, or understood why they were taking such a big hold on the younger generation. I decided to read through the “Communist Manifesto,” arguably the most famous work by the founder of the ideology, Karl Marx. After finishing the book, I now understand the values of a Communist, and what they truly stand for. There are some parts of it that I agree with, and disagree with. Some of Marx’s ideas are a little outdated, and either would not work in the modern setting, or have already been implemented in the modern setting. Overall, I would say that it is worth a read if you want to understand the core values of what it means to be a Communist.

Great Masterpiece. Must read Must read twice

March 2020. What are we waiting for?! Now is the time.

Must-read for any lovers of history!. It is one thing to learn about Communism and Socialism in school, it is another to watch videos on the lives of Joseph Stalin and Mao, but it is quite insightful to read the Communist Manifesto itself.

Not a good instruction manual. It’s just 8 pages as the actual instructions and 56 pages explaining the backstory and reasons for the instructions.

Working people of the world, unite.. Never forget that there are more of us, the proletariat, than there are of them, the bourgeoisie.

Read my review. If you were a person like me, I love communism and that’s why if you want to support communism with me as of right now you can call me just call 402 708 6286 that’s my phone number and if you want to just discuss about turning America to a communist civilization hit me up and we can have a great chat PS not an FBI agent ;)

This has never worked. Honestly this book is stupid. Get rid of family??! What the heck! He is legit suggesting that the government raise children not the parents! Who do u think honestly would care about the child more: the government or the parents who birthed them?!! All attempts at communism have failed miserably. Communism has killed millions of people! Look at China! Birth control, no free speech, and oppression of all religions! Heck look at Vietnam! People are starving!!! The man who wrote this was a hard core atheist because he didn’t want any sort of God to exist. He wanted to be his own God. He didn’t want to be accountable for his sins. Heck his own son and wife called him the devil. He was kicked out of his own country. Apparently he lived in filth and was against bathing (????). He didn’t even pay his rent… sounds to me like he just wanted to not have to work and live off of others. Stop getting brainwashed people. This book is horrible and is NOT what communists/ communism countries make it out to be.. I could go on and on hopefully I shed some light on this matter to some misguided souls.. God bless

Well made. Props to the people that produced this IBook. Not gonna argue about communism and capitalism, but this is an excellent pick up for those wanting to read it themselves.

Marxism. Communism daddy does it again 💦🥵

Beautiful. Bruh it’s communism.

Failed Philosophy. Recorded history has continued to show this ideology for what it is; riddled with envy & destined to impoverish mankind. The CM is not an economics book. It’s a philosophy book. A philosophy that has proven to be a disaster. If you embrace it it’s unlikely you understand the history or consequences of it

Good. An apt look into capitalism from the 1800s .

an essential read. sad & funny how we still haven’t advanced past capitalism. This book further explains the constrains put onto the workers through reactionary views and systems

My Review. I personally think that this is a very valuable and rewarding read into a short manifesto of some of the key concepts of a philosophy that has and continues to influence many areas in world history. Although most people wouldn’t agree with his sayings nor are they necessarily still a contemporary thought process, at least economically, I do think there are a lot of methods Marx used in historical analysis that is extremely valuable. A lot of what he says is pretty antiquated, considering the staunch laissez faire of that time due to the dominant liberal thought as Europe kept destroying Feudalism internally. Much of this dogmatic unrestricted economy philosophy was pretty much abandoned through the development of a modern nation state templates at that time and the increasing pressure from genuinely poorly treated workers and such (1848, SPD, Parliament, etc). As a result, no meaningful communistic or real traditional “Marxist” revolutions ever occurred and none of Marx’s major prophecies came even close to happening along his lines. Only revitalized and edited forms of his philosophy fueled some democratically motivated revolutions, especially along Leninist lines and whatnot. However, even if Marx’s predictions are extremely subjected and historically false, he for sure knows his history and is perfectly I tune with his contemporary surroundings.

Great ideology however Marx himself is dated. When reading this book one could easily see his predictions and laugh after all Germany did not fall to communist revolution and we still live in a bourgeois society. But it is important to know that Marx lived in a radically different time and that he was not a prophet, basically read for the theory but know that he is from a different time.

Influential Yet Confusing. While I would personally give The Communist Manifesto one star for Marx’s confusing use of words and long philosophical and theoretical tangents, I have to rate it higher due to its historical significance. This manifesto is one of the larger reasons that communism as a form of government and mentality gained international attention and traction. Since it’s written nearly 200 years ago in another language, the writing can be complicated and confusing, and I often found myself rereading portions to fully understand them. However, this was also clearly written as politically persuasive propaganda meant to rally the working class against their “oppressors”, and it should be read as such. Marx doesn’t use evidence to support his long and generous claims and tends to be very confusing in his writing structure. I’d recommend anyone read The Communist Manifesto for its historical/cultural significance. However, understand that this method of government and mindset is both deceiving and problematic when applied on a large scale. It should be read with our current historical and economic understanding.

Great. Genius

Changed my life. I think this book brings power to the people, as palpatine said “good anakin good” as he read the communists manifesto to him. Changed my view on life and I realised I don’t need food if I’m serving the motherland

Great book. I loved reading it and agree with its points

The bizarre musings of a fanatical fantasist. A completely and utterly hypocritical dogma , bordering on the proclamation of a new cult or religion to be followed willingly by all. Quite frankly bizarre!

Pure evil. No other ideology has caused as much misery and death as the evil which is Marxism.

Thanks. Many thanks for sharing ideas!

Bourge-wha?. This is a monumentally important book that is, unfortunately, unreadable on its own. I picked this book up because I wanted to read more political philosophy, and thought this would be a much easier read than the lengthier Das Kapital. There are some interesting ideas in the manifesto, mostly in the first half. Marx’s summation of the history of class struggles is engaging and expressive. The further I got into the book, however, the harder I found it to follow. Marx’s writing style consist of paragraph-long, winding sentences. He also occasionally uses terminology and names for groups that I’ve never heard of and aren’t explained, it’s expected that you are aware of the political players and theories of the era. This is fair enough, although I had hoped a manifesto sent out to the working class proletariat would be understandable to anybody with a basic knowledge of politics and history. The end result is a plodding read through page after page of word salad (which actually explains a lot about why some leftists on twitter write in this fashion). I did wonder if it was because the book was written over 150 years ago, but I’ve enjoyed other works from the same period. Perhaps it’s the result of being translated. The second half of the book reads like a list of grievances Marx and his associates have with anyone who doesn’t see the world their way. This would be forgivable if there weren’t such gaping omissions in this world view. Your mileage may vary depending on where you sit on the political spectrum, and hindsight is 20/20, but it is a little staggering that so much is left out regarding what happens after the revolution, or where Marx see’s the next stage of society heading. It feels like the first book in a set. Again, as a political manifesto this makes sense, but I was hoping for a more panoptic work. The Communist Manifesto works as an important critique of capitalism and a wonderful call to arms for revolutionaries, but the lack of a philosophical overview and difficult use of language make it hard to recommend to anyone but the party faithful. A prominent relic in the history of politics.

Fantastic. Well worth a read

10/10. Marx is a genius

Fantastic. A piece of genus that everyone should read.

Where is Will Kerrs Farmer?. All you need to know about the real communism

A great read. A great read. One of the first few books anyone should read in order to understand Communism (Something some of us have failed to do, ignore the 1* reviews, they know nothing*

Classic political literature. A classic piece of political literature. Marx describes the relationship between the ruling elite and working class in a way that is still relevant today.

Revealing. Quite a revealing piece by Karl Marx. Inspite of his genuine intentions, it seems human nature detest being free but rather having rulers and Lords over themselves. Even when freedom is achieved, there is genie within us that ensures its short lived. We love to succumb to to superiors who we song praises to. i think it gives a sense of our being. Communism might have worked during an era, but can it work without it someday sometimes being overthrown?

I’ll tz Haddington’s be. Ah C😄🧢😃v hhhgty

Great Craic. Had a 'laff'

Yawn!!. Pity it failed! But that will always be it’s destiny! The majority will always end up suffering as history has proved time and again!

Well Constructed. Seems to be typeset well and has a working TOC.

This is awesome. This book is a real thought provoking thing to red and some, if not all the ideas that are presented in this are relatable to the modern day. If you are a politics/economics enthusiast I regiment you have a read of this.

8/10 would overthrow the bourgeoisie again. I downloaded this as a joke

Greatest novel I’ve ever read. This is so good and debunks Capitalism. HAIL STALIN!

Yeet. Greatest comedy book of all time

Interesting piece of history. All negative reviews I feel have been given by ppl who have not read the book or have based the review on political bias. Its written with good intension and is critical in understanding modern history.

An eye-opener. A brilliant and unbiased work on Communism and the goals here of. A must read for anyone even vaguely interested in Politics

Good. Great book, could use a bit more communism

An Interesting Read. Even as a capitalist reading this he has some good ideas and he’s very Interesting to read. It’s a pretty short read but worth reading even if your a capitalist.

Cool story. Needed more dragons

Based and commiepilled. This is an incredible analysis of class struggle and capitalism. It’s still very prevalent today. I encourage everyone to give it a read and actually understand what communism is.

So good. Communist manifesto is epic

Gucci. Needs more starvation

Nah. It’s a no from me.

One of the most influential books if our time. Regardless of your personal views on communism, this manifesto has shaped the world and is totally worth reading. Much of what Marx says is very true, but I advise reading it to formulate your own option in the matter. Anyone who reads it with an open mind will benefit.

Masterpiece. Read from the genius, Karl Marx. Drink from his knowledge like for it comes from Bacchus' vineyards.

Very interesting. This manifesto reads like a drunk lunatic wrote it... Which Karl Marx was. I gave it 3 stars because it is very important that people read these books to realize the potential harms of socialism and communism.

The best book ever, Marx is daddy. The title says it all.

I knew a guy once, his name was Marx. Isn't that right..eh Karl?. Haha looks like no one wants to write a review because nobody can actually read the book cover to cover. XD

10/10. This is the most beautiful story I have ever read! The vivid descriptions of a world we all wish to see radiates from cover to cover! The author of this book has pained to find the absolute beauty of a crumbling world which he is trying to fix! I applaud this book for everything that is written twixt the pages! It is a clear hero and villain story, with Communism battling against Capitalism in a battle to end all battles. The battle has not been won yet, my fellow comrades, we shall rise victorious yet! Those Capitalist pigs won’t know what is to come! Communism shall prevail to truly become the best political system! Comrades! We shall destroy the bourgeoisie! Grab a hammer! Seize a sickle! War shall come! We shall protect the motherland! I would recommend this book to everyone! There is a reason why it’s free!

Very good book!. The best book ever to tell you the truth of capitalism. Look at the greedy wall street and the dysfunctional Washington, all ruled by the interest groups. The democracy is a joke !

Good vulgarization. This text by Karl Marx is not a materialist study of capitalism. It is a manifesto, meaning its purpose is to agitate and state the revendications of the communists. It is a must read for the people who care to start studying scientific socialism. However, if you only ever read The Communist Manifesto to learn about or to critic communism, you will make no sense. This text was made to be read to uneducated workers.

Among the Most Influential Writings of History. And free! Thank you

Stalingrad was a masterpiece. You Russian beasts killed nazis by freezing them to death with the weather. Badass.

This is good book. This is good book, I read it to bear every day for.

“WORKING MEN OF ALL COUNTRIES UNITE”. One of the best philosophy books ever

Not now, Karl Marx. This book is a bit outdated

A bad joke. Communism kills, period.

Very Interesting. I like the socially scientific perspective of this book.

Communism. This book was life changing if I could give more stars I would

AG. Absolute garbage period
