The Importance of Being Earnest. I read this after a recommendation from a teacher. I loved it do much, I laughed out loud several times! It is witty, whimsical, charming, and occasionally just bizarre. A wonderful read, acting it out or not. And the movie is great too!

Classic!. Witty and fun!

The Importance of Being Earnest. This is one of the few plays written in the snappy, smart and economical fashion that all staged literature should be. Wilde captures exquisitely the bonne mot, the witty phrase and the arrogant demeanor of the British class hierarchy. An excellent and short read!

Strange but entertaining. Strange to read a book in script form but it does lend to visualising the scene. Funny old time humour and quick story

Dexterously written!!!. I was required to read this for school and I loved it! It took me no more than two hours to read, and was fast and enjoyable the whole time. I strongly recommend this to all readers

The Importance of Being Ernest. Excellent story, humorous. Characters interesting.

Wilde about Ernest. I have loved this play since I was a teenager! Wilde's quick wit and humor are such a joy.

Delightful. Absolutely well worth it!

A fun revisit. I had to read this ‘way back ‘ when I was 15 or so. I was delighted to find it in the free books and read it tonight before bed. I love this clever and witty play!

Wow. THE BEST

Hilarious Classic!. I loved this play! Every moment of reading was a delightful taste of fresh air.

Great read!. I'm a little upset with myself that I put off reading this all through high school. I loved it!! And the ending was so unexpected. This is most def going to be one of my favorites to snuggle up with and read on a quite day😊

On the importance of being timeless. In a world that has traded intelligence for speed, Wilde is a safe harbour for those seeking the dry wits of humour in its true form: subliminar, indirect, sinuous. Every sentence is a pearl of sarcasm that mocks of human behavior at its core. Thats what makes it unquestionably a timeless read.

What a great plot twist. Amazing plot twist!!! I love how it ends.

Classic. Great to revisit this play. Oscar Wilde wrote at a time when life was so different from today - when the 1% had a manservant and governesses and manners ruled behavior. And he lampoons that time. For me it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Absurdly Funny!. This play is an extremely easy read because I read it in an hour before school today an ace'd an IB English test. The absurdness of this storyline made my frantic reading of the play this morning not cause as much anxiety as it did when I tried reading Crime and Punishment before school (which didn't turn out as well). 5 Stars!

Everyone is Ernest. I laughed so hard while reading this book! I had to read this book for an online class, and had no knowledge of its comedy. A whole joke on Victorian marriage lol🤣

One for the ages. A witty and completely enjoyable read.

Top play. I love this play. So witty and well constructed!

Amazing!!!. This book is filled with twists! Overall I recommend it !

Hilarious!. Nonstop humour from cover to cover, fantastic and exciting read.

Makes no sense. O

Entertaining Play. Written in modern English, each of the main characters was humorously depicted by the author.

Title says it all. After this you will understand the importance of being earnest. Great Novel

Interesting but not too inspiring. Read the book because I've heard many people talk about it. It's well written and told a good story within 100 pages. I do like how Jack and Algernon are characterized. They are different in values but surprisingly similar in attitudes towards love. Brave and honest mostly. Both characters are charming. It revealed some of the ironic side of that time.

Remarkably funny. The dialogues will have you laughing uncontrollably. Not advisable to be read in a public library. Great overall. Witty, sarcastic, even cynical. Loved it.

Comical. This has got to be the funniest classic I’ve read before Twain 😂😂

Masterpiece. This book was amazing, but I can't help compare it to The Picture of Dorian Grey as they both have similar themes and when I compare it to Dorian Grey, it doesn't hold up. I think this book is great for all readers. I am eleven and I enjoyed it very much. Though, I did need a dictionary nearby.

Witty and Enjoyable. I loved this story because it is just long enough to tell the story it’s supposed to tell without becoming boring. The characters all have witty lines and it makes the reading even more enjoyable.

Witty and “Wilde”. I never read any of Wilde’s works until this one. Delightful and full of hidden sarcasm. Need to read again and again to derive all of his hidden critiques of late 19th century society and Victorian age

Bunbury On.... Oscar Wilde has become one of my favorite authors. The Importance of Being Earnest is a funny, easy to read, well written play. Actual made me laugh out loud. I'm exited to watch the movies :)

The Importance of Being Earnest. I loved this book by Oscar Wilde!!! It's truly a classic.

Farce at it's best. Wilde always has been the master of silly. Quite enjoyable.

Funny. I have read it at least three times. And it is funny every time.

Plot Twists. Fantastic classic by a brilliant author. Mystery around every turn. Couldn’t ask for a better motif.

Good story. Much better than other stories we have to read for lax. Actually enjoyed it.

Still funny. Even though it mocks the norms of the time and place it was written, it's still funny today. I laughed out loud as I read it. Deserves its reputation as a classic.

Wild about Wilde. This is one of the funniest plays ever written! Every person with a modicum of culture will know it, so quote to your heart's content. A true delight to read or perform.

A very delightful read. I would love to see the play in person.. Brady

Amazing. So I had to read this for my ELA class, and at first he gave us these 50 page packets. My first instinct is to look on iBooks. Being free was awesome, and now I can't forget it in home room. It's a really good play, and is funny at some points. Great play!

This is a great book. In school we have been reading the beginning of plays like Shakespeare and what not. Then we read this and I read the beginning and liked it. So I finished reading it on Apple Books.

Spectacular!. Spectacular jolly fun from beginning to end!

The importance of being EARNEST. The importance of being earnest is written by well-known author Oscar Wilde whom we all in love with, and takes place in era which we call the Aristocracy generation in England. The scene starts with so-called orphan John Worthing visiting his aristocratic friend Algernon Moncrieff's house, and discovers himself being rejected by his future mother-in-law. In the next scene, Algernon discovers himself being rejected by his lover Cecily Cardew's guardian John. Neither of them might seem like they are neglected by their future in-laws however, the most not earnest action was that both of them used the name Ernest to attract their lovers. This lie brings about the issue of distrustfulness between Ernests and their lovers. The one and only issue I would like to comment on is that few scenes of this novel advertised that lying can lead to complexity ,which could bring happy ending, in some area. For example, had Jack not lied about his identity, he wouldn't have found his true nature. Then BOOM teenage readers like me get the general idea that lying can lead to some sort of good ending. Had I understood that lying is bad from this novel, I could have concluded the book as perfect. All in all, this novel perfectly displayed the human nature that all of us wants to hide. The nature that makes us lie sometimes. Personally, The importance of being Earnest is recommendable for teenage readers who are struggling to discover who they are like me. This novel might help you to see others from another angle.

Delightful!!. I recommend it.

Very Funny!!!!. It’s so short but what a great story! The wit of all of the characters and their underhanded, snide comments were so clever and unpredictable. I LOVE this story

Ridiculously funny. I saw the play mini years ago, but this book was much funnier.

Just great writing and the dialogue is alive with humor and wit and real people foibles.. See above

Melodramatic & Funny. I'd never read any of Oscar Wilde's works. And I did't realize this was a play. But I found myself laughing aloud in the middle at Jack's predicament and the upcoming confrontations. The characters' remarks are most often exaggerated and melodramatic, and the ends tied up almost too neatly, but this quick read left me smiling and looking for other Wilde works.

The Importance of Being Earnest. I am 13 years old, and I thought this book was funny! I like that everybody's name was Ernest, even though they were not being earnest about their name. :)

Humorous, well written. A true classic, full of odd humour and wonderfully written.

The Importance of Being Earnest. In this novella, a most complex account of one man's unknown history is ultimately revealed after a tumult of events, misfortunes and lies. Alas, it is a truly spectacular tale, outlining a humorous and enthralling revelation of the protagonist, the young Mr Ernest Worthing, and his long mislaid past.

An everlastingly accurate work of social commentary.. Lady Bracknell is society, then and now.

Good, fun little read. Funny and witty book, but perhaps a little dated these days. Proposals of marriage between people who had barely met each other, which were immediately accepted, came across as a bit simplistic. Fun little twist with the name Earnest, but the end was easy to predict. I would say read and make your own opinion because many people clearly love this book, but its not going to be one of my all time favourites.

Kind of predictable toward the end but Oscar is a genius. I like the intricacies in the storyline and how it flows so easily when redding it.

So much fun to read. Great humour and a great read, highly recommend

Good quick read. Good book the drama of it all is amazing!!

A very funny novel. Made me laugh quite a bit . A short story but definitely worth it .

In earnest.... I absolutely adore this charming read. Oscar Wilde is witty, and brilliant in this timeless story. He is the reason I continue to read the works of classic authors, so I can only hope to find more precious gems. Read on, pick up other works, including the Picture of Dorian Grey!

The importance of the importance of being earnest.. What a read! This is my first of Oscar Wilde’s work and I surely intend to read more. I love it from start to finish, the crescendo-ing plot was gripping and fun.

Love it. Love it

A great light read. A very English humour at it's best a wonderful farcical tale

The importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Every one should read this book at least once in their lifes it is full of wit that time can not diminish over the years. And will bring a smile to your face page after page.

Hilarious!. I can't believe that I am only just reading this at 23 years old! A brilliant read, I found myself laughing out loud on the bus to work.

The Importance of being Earnest. So lovely to slip back into another era, a time forgotten (thank goodness ) but still remarkably witty and a little frivolous. I spent a delightful afternoon reading a well written if not dated account of coincidence and subterfuge, with all loose ends tied up beautifully.

Wish I'd read it before!. One of those books that I'd always meant to read but had never got around to it. Downloaded as my 1st iBook and read in 1 sitting. Very funny and very English, really brought a smile to my face.

Brilliant!. I adore Oscar Wilde and his ability to make you laugh at people being people. This is a story that talks of lies, mistakes identity and the class systems within England. It is humorous and interesting making you think about the fact that if you lie you will always flee found out. This is a lesson I think many need to understand. Also it seems interesting to see how the class system affects how the characters conduct themselves and make decisions, it also highlights the loss in respect people have now a days which is unfortunate. I must say that the play did make me laugh at the sheer stupidity of the things we do that are merely human and trivial. I also will add that I am a massive fan girl of Oscar Wilde so my positivity may be biased

A Handbag....!?. Has to be one of the greatest lines ever! Never fails to amuse me :) Wonderfully absurd and typically Wilde, this witty little farce has been one of my all time favourites since my first introduction, and I would urge anyone who has yet to read it to do so asap!

Brilliant. One of the funniest, cleverest and greatest things I have ever read. Mind you I'm only 16 but this was outstanding. Could have been longer but that just shows that I wanted it to last longer.

The importance of being Earnest. Took about an hour and half to read. Thoroughly enjoyed throughout as it continually uses humour and also allows you to wonder what will happen next.

One of the classics of the English Language. A truly great play, witty, unexpected and a joy to see/read, Wilde at his brilliant best

Great classic. First time reading an Oscar Wilde piece. Did not regret afterward as it was thoroughly brilliant. It’s a shame they do not promote great Irish writers such Wilde in Irish schools, as I would have enjoyed English class more than I did.

Incredibly funny; Great read. I’d forgotten just how much of a ‘page turner’ this book was.

Witty Till The End!. A very engaging and amusing story and time well spent upon such a tale.

The importance of being earnest. This is a classic and well done for being a free download. Every student of the English language should read it at least once a month :)

Great!. Gripping all the way through. The twists and turns were simply thrilling! Short and sharp, a perfect book!

Classic.. I love this play. It never fails to make me laugh. If you enjoy the play, see the movie with Rupert Everett, Colin Firth & Judy Dench.

Nice. Yeah good

An old favourite. Delightful

Highly Recommended. An enjoyable, and at times humorous read, featuring fantastic dialogue and thought provoking comments.

Great. Such an amusing play! Hilarious!

Funny. Funny, quick witted read.

Differences from the movie. 1. Jack's father's name is Earnest. 2. Lady Bracknell has her part a little bit reduced in the movie. 3. The debt-collection theme and scenes do not exist in the drama. 4. Jack is interviewed by Lady Bracknell at Algi's place and not at her's. Consequently there are no other candidates or ringing of bells. 5. The movie overplays Algi's insolvency. 6. Miss Prism doesn't run around in circles when she comes across Lady Bracknell at Jack's place. 7. No hot air balloons or any stuff of the kind in the drama.

Boring. Dla marde
