Divergent is the BEST. This is the book the told me that I should have a passion for reading and it inspired me to read many many books. It’s a dystopian great book I think everyone should read it!!!

Awesome!. I usually don’t read romances or fanciful stories, but this was an exception. I received it as a hand me down book, and read it in only a day because I couldn’t put it down! It’s a hands down book for teens, and an awesome story plot. Well done Veronica Roth!

Best book I've read. I would totally recommend this. I was up all night trying to find out what happens and I was so relieved at the end. Though there is one downside the ending left me with so many questions like what just happened or what happened to the others. So now I am dieing to read he second book "Insurgent". This book was origonally supposed to be just a step out of my conform zone but I ended up loving it so I plan on finishing the whole series u planed from before where I thought I would hate it. So therefore I would 100 percent recommend thanks.

Love this series. I loved this book so much I cried when I finished it. The dystopian and romance in this book is incredible!!! I would love to be in Dauntless or Divergent! Tobias and Tris 4 EVER!!! Fourtirs shall reign forever even when - Spoilers from 3rd book - Tris dies 😭😭😭! Anyway, I recommend this book for any of u romance and dystopian fiction lovers! Best book series u will ever buy!😁

my all time favorite. This is book is fantastic! After reading the first few pages, I was hooked. I love the romance between Tris and Four (the main characters) and I love how their relationship evolves. All of the characters are very well written, it really does draw a clear image in your head. It is definitely worth it. I would recommend it for ages 12 and up, because it can be pretty violent and descriptive. Also some scenes can be a little inappropriate for younger readers, but 12+ is a good rating. Overall I think it is a fantastic book and worth the read, it’s my favorite book series ever!

Casual read. Really nice bit of adventure

Love it. Once you get past the first 10 pages or so every second makes you love it.

Great Dystopian read.. Don’t miss the last hundred pages. Because that’s where the fast paced action starts. That was why I finished the book too. I was about to stop reading because of the slow paced writing and a bit of a brief and nonrealistic writings on the Dauntless trainings. (The part where they had the knives throwing got me.) Although the book was good, I cringe at the narration on the description of Tobias by Beatrice.😂 For the positive review, I really love the where Beatrice and her mother’s resolved well, finding out she’s a divergent too. I also loved how they presented the moral struggle of Beatrice, which can be complicated and considered an inner struggle, with factions that represented different character identity. But on the side note, all these factions and their motives only fixed well with Beatrice’s long standing struggle as a Divergent in the end before she met her mother for the last time.

Love. I fell in love with this book FOURTRIS for life

So amazing!. This book is what got me into YA fiction and dystopian. This book has great characters, great writing, and a great plot. 100% recommend!!!

Best book for young teens like me. The book was so good I even wrote a letter to Veronica Roth. The movies were inappropriate so I do not advise teens to watch. I finished the series and Veronica Roth is now my favorite author. I am only 10 but an advanced reader me and my 9 year old sister both loved the books we need more good books like this to read! Amazing. I LOVE this book. I am one of those people that love romance in a book and action. This book has all of those things. I just finished the third book and now I am angry. There are no more books in this series.😭😭😢😢 but this book is so good. I could not stop reading it.

Amazing. I read this Book when I was 11 and it took me a Month to read it. It’s not toooooo romantic or toooooo violent it is a mix of to grate this. The movie and the book is soooooooox♾ Different I think the book is a lot better than the movie ok .

My favorite!. Divergent was definitely my favorite among the three in the series. There’s something so captivating about the love that continues to grow between Tris and Four. There was romance and suspense in all the right places. It kept me interested and couldn’t put the book down. I also liked that it wasn’t just another teen love story. It wasn’t drama filled or whiney. Overall, I highly recommend and would definitely read it again (and again)!

Fav!!!. OMG! I can’t even put my feelings about this book into words. Tris is an awesome model and she is fierce. Tobias, or Four, seems so sexy but at the same time nice and gentle. The character development throughout the story is so great. This is my altimeter favorite book and series.

By Far the Best Dystopian I’ve Ever Read. Divergent is the best dystopian I’ve ever read. My mom recommended it so I got the book and began reading, within five chapters I was in love, I finished the book and it had been a wild journey of tears, suspense, laughter and warm fuzzy feelings. This is one of the best romances I’ve ever read, Tris and Tobias are just so amazingly in love, and I love it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and then there’s the factions and war and Will and Peter and Al, that completely stunned me I was not prepared for Al. Tris is such an amazing person and she cares about other people so deeply. And Tobias is and incredible person despite first impressions he would do anything for Tris (he proves it too) and he has a tragic past. The two together are the best couple I’ve ever seen in any book. Divergent and Insurgent are something more than a book they are an experience. Allegiant’s ending made me want to forget the entire book even existed. I mean COME ON!!!! I’m not lying when I say I was crying for an hour. My advice, skip the last 5 or so chapters of Allegiant all together and make up your own ending. It will most likely be much better than the actual one. But Divergent and Insurgent have changed what I think of as a good book. They raised the standards impossibly high. No other book can reach it. I read it in middle school and I recommend this as a must read for anyone 13 to 98.

Appropriate for 5th+ I'd say. I, personally, have to get a REALLY interesting and good book for me to actually keep reading it ongoing and not stop. Well, at first I wasn't so sure because I never liked reading that much but after I actually sat down and took the time, it was WONDERFUL. But also when it says the audience is like 9th grade, I read divergent in 6th grade so if you are trying to find an appropriate book this is one. There are only a couple just kissing parts but it's fine.

Best book ever. As soon as I started reading it I got sucked in and had to keep reading also the movies and books pretty much followed each other but of course the books are better❤️

My opinion. Can I just say I loved the book I finished it about 2 weeks or so. I only read book one, and hoping to finish the series. Can I just say I don’t really like Beatrice’s brother he sounds a little awkward to me... something I didn’t like is how they tried to “scare” her by pushing her into that stream I guess you can call it just made me feel really bad and how they beat her up ( freakin Peter) , but four came to the rescue yay four or should I say Tobias. Overall great book can really say anything bad that I didn’t like because there’s nothing for me to hate, but anyways great book loved it can’t wait to keep reading into the series. XOXO

ABSOLUTELY AMAZE!!!. I LOOOOOVED this book so much!!! The romance between Four and Tris and the inner and physical strength both of these characters develop throughout the book kept my eyes glued to the pages as I read for 10 hours straight!!! I was able to finish the entire book in just a day and a half even though it was almost 400 pages. I couldn’t put the book down until I got to the end and immediately went on to the second book in the series (Insurgent) just moments after finishing Divergent!! I’m already on page 200 of Insurgent too and I just started it last night!!! Love these books, their author, and the characters so much!! I’m going to be soooo sad when the series comes to an end!!😥😩🤪😄😁😉😉

Still An Okay Book After All These Years. Giving three stars because I’m not quite sure on how to rate this book. I read this book when they first came out with the movie (2014) & I LOVED this book & the movie! I watched the movies on repeat & bought all of the books. I couldn’t get enough of this series! Now I when I read this book (2020), I’m not as in love with it as I once was. I still think it’s a good book & read. Rereading this book makes me want to watch the movies & reread the series, so there’s that (lol).

DIVERGENT IS AMAZING. The first book in this trilogy is everything you thought it will be. Throughout the chapters you have SUSPENSE and you never know what’s going to happen next! The story ends with a shocking cliffhanger, and it sets up perfectly for INSURGENT

Awesome book!. Divergent is a great book that I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes dystopian stories or romances. It’s a really captivating story, with beautifully flawed characters and a world that could have been perfect, but wasn’t. -SPOILER WARNING- One of my favorite things about this book is definitely the characters. I am not kidding when I say I literally cheered out loud when tris chose dauntless. I mean, come ON. “I am selfish. I am brave”. One of the best parts of the book. All of the characters have flaws, and insecurities, and they aren’t perfect story-book people. And that’s what makes them so great. The villains are amazing too. While the “erudite is bad” thing was a bit overdone, other than that erudite was an amazing villain. The most important thing about them is, they have a point. As shown by Marcus, who I’ll talk about later, not all of Abnegation is as selfless as people think. The truth is, it’s impossible to have a perfect government. The best we can do is fair. Now, about Marcus. He’s honestly one of the few characters in fiction that I honest-to-goodness hate. And he’s not even a villain! He’s on the good side, but he’s a really terrible person. It’s actually really interesting. Erudite is the “villain,” but they have a good point. They’re trying to do something good. Marcus is one of the good guys, but he’s also just absolutely terrible. So where do you draw the line between good and evil? The last thing I’ll say about the book is that there’s a couple parts that might be hard for some people, so take this as a trigger warning: there’s both suicide and child abuse, so if that’s something you don’t want to read about, maybe avoid this book.

Gripping teen dystopian story about friendship, betrayal, strength, romance, bravery & corruption. Book 1 of 3 (with a couple of short stories available in e-format that fit in between the novels). A dystopian-type story set in a future (post war?) Chicago where society has been restructured into 5 factions based on human qualities in an attempt to remove corruption from the different facets of society. The story revolves around Beatrice, a teenager who must undergo initiation in the faction of her choosing (see author's description for more detail). If you've read & liked books such as The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins or Bane by H.M. Ward, then you will definitely love Divergent by Veronica Roth. My appreciation: I couldn't put Divergent down. Whenever I'd end a chapter, I'd look at the time to see if I could sneak in another chapter. It's a gripping story. The story is fast paced and there is never a dull moment. There is a nice balance of action, friendship, lightness, deeper inner struggles, love, politics & war. Be forewarned, Veronica Roth is not afraid to kill off her characters for the sake of her story. Constructive Criticism: The romance between the 2 main characters is wonderful but I didn't get butterflies in my stomach. Technical stuff: Divergent is written in the first person, present tense, from Beatrice's point of view. I am an averaged-speed reader and it took me 12 hours to read it. Safe for younger teens: No sexual content (although there is reference to sex) BUT there is violence, blood, weapons & death. Genres and keywords: Dystopian, Teen, Science Fiction, Love/Romance, Politics, War.

Compelling.. I am one of the few who watched the movie before the book. The book gave a more detailed insight into the story. I enjoyed this story. I found the character Tris very relatable, and I think that many young people will be able to connect with some of the feelings Tris has. I would recommend this to other.

Divergent. Amazing book the mix feelings I love every thing about it every event, i went crazy, I couldn't put it down till I finished. Oh my gosh tris and four I love them every moment of them I just can't even describe how much i was fangirling. It probably took me a few weeks just to stop talking about it. I was mind blown every chapter, every event. How she goes through initiation and the crazy things she had to go through oh my gawsh!!!!!!! I can't wait for the third book ugh I want it now!!!!!!!!

A book for teenagers. If your still in high school this is probably a great read. The writing is not bad, and neither is the story idea. What it lacks is an emotional reaction to the reader. I like to feel connected to a book and the characters and this book definitely kept me on the outside looking in. I actually enjoyed the twilight and hunger games trilogy more than the divergent trilogy. It started to get good in Allegiant, but the terrible ending spoiled that.

Hard to suspend belief. I found it much harder to suspend belief reading Divergent than I did with other books of the same ilk. The “factions” are not very plausible but were clearly a good vehicle to create the tension between belief systems. As with many YA books I found the writing repetitive. Tris repeats her feelings constantly, and is constantly reminding us that she is “divergent” but doesn’t understand what that entails. The romance was strictly for teens as was to be expected. It was still better than Twilight. By a large margin.

Ok. Book 1 & 2 are good books, but book 3 was very poorly written and very rushed, I would not give book 3 any stars.

In the end, not worth the time investment. This trilogy is a needlessly negative and dispiriting ride through a bleak landscape, with nothing to look forward to at the end of the journey. Think twice before embarking - you are likely to be disappointed. Overall, I would place these books in the "pointless pathos" category - unnecessarily maudlin and violent, and lacking sufficient substance to make them worth reading. There are some well-written passages and thought-provoking concepts (especially for the younger set) but in the end the entire trilogy gives the impression of being rather disjointed and patched together. I would definitely not pay again for this ride, particularly if it emerges in the form of a grimly grotesque movie series.
