Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen & C.E. Brock Book Summary

“It is a truth universally acknowledged…” that Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s most widely read and widely loved novel. It is the story of Elizabeth, the sharp-witted and level-headed second daughter of the Bennet family, and her slowly blossoming relationship with the honorable but haughty Mr. Darcy. Taking place among the rural aristocracy of England in the early nineteenth century, Austen creates characters that are so recognizably human and themes that are so universal, that the novel has never lost its popularity, inspiring nearly two centuries of adaptations, reinterpretations, and imitators. Austen’s original text, available here with illustrations from the 1895 edition, remains one of the most romantic, delightful, and indelible stories in the English language.

Pride and Prejudice. I feel quite accomplished now that I have read this romantic classic!! Savored the last chapters because I didn't want it to end.

Amazing. Amazing book. The only problem I had was the fact that I found a few typos but I don't think they can have much in that say.

Book's great, formatting's not. Line spacing is too cramped. Download the other free version on iBookstore and you'll see what I mean.

Pride and Prejudice. This is a great love story set back in the early days. There are many twists and turns you don't expect, but everything works out for the couples at the end. It keeps you guessing, that's for sure!!

Boring, but good literature.. Pride and Prejudice, in my opinion, was a very, very, very boring book. There was pretty much no action in it, just a lot of drama. It took forever for the story to get to the point, and when it did get to the point, it wasn’t exceptionally exciting. However, the book was extremely hard to read (for me, at least, because I am in 7th grade and usually don’t read books written in the 19th century), and therefore helped me gain a larger vocabulary. In addition, my writing style changed from “She was very excited to go to the party” to “Adrenaline rushed through her veins as she stepped out of her boyfriend’s convertible onto the dim, damper street, her heart beating in her chest as she approached the front door of her best friend’s house.” In other words, there was a lot more detail in my writing, more so in my creative writing. Finally, the book taught me about people’s beliefs and cultures in the 1800s. This topic was a difficult one to grasp, but with CliffNotes and some help from my mom, I made it through. I noticed the common mention of class throughout the book between many of the characters. Also, close to the beginning, the author indirectly states that to inherit money from a parent is more acceptable than earning your own pay. This was a bit odd to me, considering I have always known that if you want something, you have to earn it, or you don’t get it. Pride and Prejudice was written very well, other than the fact that it was boring. If you want to read a book that will enhance your vocabulary, help you learn about the past world, and that is a romance novel, then I would recommend this book. — Thanks for reading, MJAnonymous

Deceptively Entertaining!. Even though I’m not always a big fan of 18th- and 19th- century literature, this is one of my favorite books of all time (don’t sleep on Frankenstein though). Jane Austen’s humor and wit is timeless!

Beautiful poetry. Inspiring, lovely, innocent

The First of it's Kind. I admit I skimmed/skipped some of the more mundane interactions and inner reiterations, it started the genre and definitely created the right amount of tension to propel forward. Happy to say I've read it. :)

Unusual effect. I downloaded this book to my phone over a year ago. Whenever I’m stuck waiting I would bring it up and read a few pages. I’d heard good things about it, but just couldn’t get into it. The old English was annoying, but the plot was good. I just kept coming back to it until I reached the last section. At that point I could hardly go a day without reading a chapter or two. Maybe I got used to the old English, or maybe I just had to know what would happen next. All in all, it’s one of the most unusual books I’ve read and I did enjoy it, even if it took me so long to read it.

A gift to readers. Bookbyte editions are the best available for classic books -- the formatting is exceptional, and often public domain images are included, presented always very beautifully! Thanks Bookbyte for making e-books fun!

One of the best. I personally think that this is one of my favorite books. If I’m not in the mood for a book set in this time or the future this book isn’t so old that it’s boring. The plot is so romantic and Mr. Darcy is absolutely the best

Pride & Prejudice. I am hooked. There are absolutely now words to describe this amazing piece of fiction. Not only will you fall in love with the romance between Darcy and Lizzie, enjoy the diversity among the social class, but you will also start to feel yourself become unimaginably attached to the story. It took me three tries to read and complete this book. Once you get past the first couple of chapters, all you will ever think about is Pride and Prejudice. It simply compelling and enjoyable. You will enjoy ever second. I know the language is kind of tough, but trust me, by the end of the book, you might even begin speaking like them. I had to stop myself because I was getting strange looks from my teachers Ne friends, A must read!

Meh. Pride and prejudice and zombies was a lot better

Masterpiece!. No wonder it's a classic, I loved every page! Lizzy Bennet is the Joan of Arc of romantic fiction!

Why did I wait so long to read this. Extremely well written!!The old English in which it was written was hard for me to get through at first but I really liked the book a lot. I didn't read it for so long because I really didn't think that i would like it but it ended up being very good I am looking forward to reading more of English literature and of Austen’s books .I'm sorry to have put them off for so long.

A difficult read.. This was a boring book to read. The wording was hard to follow and there was way too much unnecessary information. I had to skip a lot of pages to even finish it. The basic story was good but that's the only positive thing I can say about it.

Pride and Prejudice. Great love story

Pride and Prejudce. Fast paced - one of the best I have ever read-love it

Pride and prejudice. This book is the best book ever

Not a had book, just a bad format.. Pride and prejudice is a beloved classic amongst any classical book fans, and as such I won't spend time talking about the book, I will be talking about its format. To keep this review small let me skip to the point, its horrible, absolutely horrendous. Lines fling everywhere and the text is formatted abnormally. I recommend picking up the book without the illustrations on the apple bookstore, they're for the same price afterall.

Pride and prejudice. Essential reading for anyone that likes period drama. Very close to the film with the little extra dialogues. Well worth the read

So captivating . I love it!! There's some pictures too

Boooooooo. This book is rubbish never read it ever

Soooo good!!. Joe Write's 2005 Pride and Prejudice made me love the story. Reading the story itself now makes me appreciate the movie but love the book. I'll reread it starting tomorrow...

Pride and Prejudice. I was disappointed by the illustrations in this book. Individuals who have read it, know that Elizabeth Bennet was a brunette not a blonde. Jane Bennet was the blonde. The illustrations have it reversed.
