Open by Andre Agassi Book Summary

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Far more than a superb memoir about the highest levels of professional tennis, Open is the engrossing story of a remarkable life. • "Agassi’s memoir is just as entrancing as his tennis game.” —Time

“Honest in a way that such books seldom are.” —The New York Times

Andre Agassi had his life mapped out for him before he left the crib. Groomed to be a tennis champion by his moody and demanding father, by the age of twenty-two Agassi had won the first of his eight grand slams and achieved wealth, celebrity, and the game’s highest honors. But as he reveals in this searching autobiography, off the court he was often unhappy and confused, unfulfilled by his great achievements in a sport he had come to resent.

Agassi writes candidly about his early success and his uncomfortable relationship with fame, his marriage to Brooke Shields, his growing interest in philanthropy, and—described in haunting, point-by-point detail—the highs and lows of his celebrated career.

Great read!. Fantastically written, amazingly written and immensely readable. I read the book in a day and half. A great autobiography of a sports figure. You don't have to be a fan of tennis to enjoy this read.

Open. One of the best books I've read in years.this is not a biography of a tennis player.it is a story of courage, determination and character,a love story,a story of profound human relationships,a tale of a magical partnership,a hymn to friendship and a testament to the power of belief determination and commitment.it is beautifully written and fills the reader with deep respect for Andre Agassi and a wonderful sense of optimism.a must read!

Great book. Such a great book. I was sad that it had to end. What an amazing person...

Thank you. Thank you

Wow!. I'm not a reader, but I read this book in two days. Agassi was my hero growing up, and I tried to emulate his game. Mullet and all. After reading this I am once again inspired. Unreal.

The Master Quest. Although our games our different, the opponent is the same. “The mind is restless, Krishna, impetuous, self-willed, hard to train: to master the mind seems as difficult as to master the mighty winds.” Thank you for sharing, thank you.

Amazing read. I really couldn't stop reading this amazing book. I grew up watching Agassi on tv and loved getting into his mind and behind the scenes thanks to this beautiful book.

Open/Andre Agassi. Great Read! Awesome book

Don’t waste….. …..the time or money on this book. A grown man who lives in misery because he can’t make his own decisions. Very depressing.

Open. This was the greatest book I have ever read. A true inspiration about family, life and sports. Thank you, Andre!

Beautiful Story. What an extraordinarily moving story. It is well told, has tension, and is hard to put down. You just want to see what happens next. You just want to see how Andre will grow and evolve, and turn from hating tennis to loving it. This is an inspiring book; it is timeless and speaks to the human-ness of anyone who seeks to find him/herself.

Open by Andre Agassi. This and Chuck Yeager’s biography are two of the best I’ve read. A friend read this book. He said, I hate biographies, but I liked this one. So, even if you don’t like biographies, read this one. It’s superb. I will now try to get my 15 year old tennis playing son to read it. That will be a chore.

This book was beautifully written. Charming and heartbreaking at the same time.. I’ve never read an autobiography about a tennis player, but this was wonderful. It’s really cool to get inside the head of Agassi as he battles through so many matches and I love the love story between he and Stephanie. The prep school he built in Vegas this crazy cool.

I terrific read — even if tennis isn’t your thing!. The behind-the-scenes stories and antidotes were intriguing. On the flip side, some of the play-by-play match reports could have been trimmed down (or eliminated) without curbing my enjoyment of the book at all.

Amazing!. I haven’t read any book cover to cover ever in my life which is sad Ik lol but this book has made me want to never stop reading what an amazing book from an amazing man. It’s a privilege to have read about this mans life WOWWW

Thank you Andre!. Thank you Andre!

Great Read. This book came highly recommended by friends who read and on reviews and did not disappoint. Great story!!

Inspiring. I've long admired Andre Agassi as a tennis player and found him engaging during interviews. This book was fantastic in its insight into his personality and humanity that most of just can't really know about public figures. I was touched by his story and could identify with his passion mixed with a need for focus in life. I was also touched by his description of his love for Steffi Graf and their kids and appreciated how fatherhood changed him to his core. Great book! One of my favorites and one I'll recommend to many people.

OPEN - loved it!. Inspiring story of dedication to a sport.

Open. Wow. What a book. I grew up thinking that Andre Agassi had little substance and was all flash. His book shows that he is just the opposite. What an amazing life he had by overcoming so many obstacles. He clearly is a kind warm hearted man that is to be admired. I couldn't put the book down. The honesty and struggle he describes is something to be commended! All the best to him, his family and my hero Gil!

Grown up. I enjoyed hearing about Andre’s growth from being a self-absorbed tennis phenom to a caring grownup who put others needs above his own. Most never make that transition. Captivating story.

Fascinating reading. Loved every page of this book. Great admiration for Andre Agassi.

Great read!. Being a tennis player, I was really eager to read this book once I heard about it. It was a great read that really sucked me in to the story. I highly recommend this book!

Best Book I have ever read!. This books has inspired me in so many ways, and hope to one day meet him. Highly recommended!

Superb. I couldn't put the book down. I appreciate Agassi's honesty. Great read.

Open. A thoroughly good read and insight into what goes on behind the scenes in the sport of tennis and what sports men have to endure to reach their goals.

SO SO SO SO GOOD. I am not really a reader, at least not till lately. I read this book in about 5 days flat I could not put it down. So beautifully written with a simplicity that allows the story structure and take aways to utterly fly. Please please please do yourself a favor and read it. So sad that I'm already done with it.

I could not stop reading it!!. Very well written. It helped me understand what is going on on players minds and confirm that with dedication and effort anything is possible!

Winning Swing. A book AKA an experience that will take you thought the life of not only a athlete but a hall all time great. His honesty is pure and shocking with a mix of many thrilling moments. The ups and downs found in this book will keep you hooked from chapter to chapter and from phase to phase. It's extremely hard for a athlete to see himself without the thing that defines him most and this book tells how to do it and do it with passion. Recommended for anyone who loves sports and hates to loose. Lessons we all need to learn from and share. Thank You, AKA!!

Review of Open. I loved this book. Could not put it down. Brought back so many memories and really educated me on the type of person Agassi was and is. I was a tennis player trying to make it and fell short in talent and effort. I lived at Bollettieri's around the same time as Agassi and remember a lot of the same things Andre spoke about. I went to the usopen almost every year for 25 yrs and watched Agassi in some of those big matches he spoke about. I never realized he won so many grand slams cause I typically only watch the usopen and Wimbledon yearly. My father became good friends with Nick Bollettieri about 30 yrs ago and agree with everything Andre said in this book. Such a great insight on who he is and I found it incredibly entertaining. Just hope he realizes how lucky his life is and I am pretty sure he does now since the tennis is behind him. So happy for him that he got together with stephanie Graf. She is a class act and together they will enjoy the rest of their lives together for sure. Love that they are giving back to this world and hope I can do the same when the time is right. Thank him very much for sharing his life story. Sincerely Jim Simone HV Pa. 19006

Open. What a wonderful book. Probally one of the best sports I've read. If you ever played tennis( juniors an collage) you will really enjoy it.

Great read. After reading this book I have a new found respect for Andre, his struggles, how he evolved and the man he became. This was one of hose books you enjoy immensely and don't want to put down.

We never knew. So , first of all his tumultuous and Ironic ( his words) tennis career is just the canvas or backdrop for his candid life journey. I defy anyone to not be rooting for him since the days of his dragon battles and all the way through his Sampras-Agassi epic battles . This book does 2 things in my eyes first, obviously, gives the reader an all access invite chronologically, and emotionally, into Mr. Agassi’s life . Secondly and more entertaining (to me) it illuminates how little you know of someone so public and how different someone really is deep down from their public persona. Fantastic story , and a great humanitarian. Rob D R.Ph and 5.0 Amateur

Open Amazed. This book is one I want to read and then read again. I love the title, the honesty, the voice of confidence and humility - the contradictions!

Fun Read. Fun read. Respect the man and the myth.

Amazing.. Haven't watched a day of tennis in my life nor have I been a big reader but I was told about this book and I decided to give it a chance. Read it in 3 days, I was so taken away and into the book. Must read.

A heartfelt memoir. Simply written and honest recollection of a competitor’s life. It’s an easy read, gets a bit predictable toward the end.

Great book!. What an amazing life/career.

GREAT!!. This book was given to me as a gift and I must say is the best book I have read in awhile, is not even about tennis but his struggle with his father and his hatred for tennis which is really ironic. AWOSOME BOOK!!

Game, Set, Match!!. This book only solidifies my love for Agassi! Reading it brought back every memory I have watching him play (Mostly against Sampras) with my fist in my mouth, on my knees in front of the tv, and my eyes half open!! I could feel his passion through the screen and now though his words!! I miss him on the court now more than ever!! Andre is an Icon!!!

Awesome. Awesome!!!

Open. Great read...I don't even play tennis and I couldn't put it down!

Great read. Loved this book... as a fan I’m biased but goes to show while superhuman you are you are also human.

Great book. Recommend to anybody, Great read, honest, not centered about tennis per we but life and finding yourself.

Loved the Book. Such a great book and fun reading while remembering the matches and opponents he played. Followed his career from the beginning, the ups and downs, and love that he has such peace and happiness in his life.

Love agassi. If you do, then this book is awesome. I loved it since it has a bit if both players i admire. And its honest.

Always been a fan. Andre - great read. Being an athlete I could relate to many of the trials you had with your Dad. My Dad and I didn't speak for five years but we both love[d] each other and I was very emotional reading your Dads reaction when you won your first slam. A great book!

Agassi is King. What a wonderful memoir. Beautifully written, brilliance in selection of words, comfort food to the soul.

Epic Story, Unkind at Times.... Very well written, fascinating story. I got a little tired of in depth details on tennis matches and thought he was a little too unkind to Brooke and Sampras, making many unnecessary low blows that didn’t really add anything to his story. Do I *need* to know that Pete Sampras didn’t tip well at restaurants and how empty/vacuous Brooke’s Hollywood life and friends seemed to him? I don’t feel like he took the high road with comments like those. Otherwise a fantastic story and I highly recommend.

Incredible. Found this book impossible to put down. Writing is natural and easy to read.

One of a kind. This memoir is absolutely amazing ! Never have I been so intrigued to read on about an athletes life! Andre's life is unbelievable, if you can read then you must read this memoir! This is a real page turner ! Money well spent !!!!

Open. Pleasantly surprised. Not the type of book that I usually read, and I found myself carving out time to read it. Definitely worth your time...

Thank you, Andre!. What a wonderful book. I remember being fan of Mr. Agassi since early 1990-s. But this book showed the complexity of a tennis player's life, all the drama, strugle, and challenges I had no idea about. He tells his story in such humble way, with amazing sense of humor. It is a page-turner! I did enjoy this book a lot. Thank you Mr. Agassi for your talent and good soul!

Open. Excellent book, great read really enjoyed it!

Très bonne biographie. Très bonne biographie, pour ceux qui aime le tennis et André Agassi. Il décrit des joueurs en dehors des terrains de tennis.
