Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes it’s good.”

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.
Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

So good. This is my favorite series. I love this story.

Amazing!!!. i love all these books, i re-read them all the time. I bought the audio to fall a sleep to, because this is my favorite book. little did i know as my first audio book it would ruin me. I love how they have a female for the female parts and a male for the male narration. I wish more audiobooks would do this, and also i wish they would redo the first 3 with both Natalie Ross and Phil Gigante. Well Done!

I'm sad it's over. This was the best series I've read since sookie! It's just amazing

Super fun!. Honestly, I thought I wouldn't enjoy the first one, but here I am reviewing the last in the series after devouring the rest.

Amazing. Hands down the best book I've ever read. Thank you for an incredible journey. This will stay with me forever.

Shadowfever. What a fun engaging read! Exactly what one needs when looking for well written entertainment!!!

Love it!!!. I loved this book. But I love ALL the Fever books.

Awesome. Love every one of these book, I have read every book karen has written, can't wait for the rest of iced series, and please write about Christian .........

Amazing book.. Mrs. Moning truly has a magical way with words.

Shadowfever (et al). This is a fabulous series. Full of passion and danger, fear and fantasy. I’ve just returned to the first 5 after several years and blew through a rare weekend off, powering through every juicy one of them!

Epic urban fantasy. KMM did the impossible, she wrote a book that exceeded my expectations! This book had everything, heartbreak, joy, mystery, romance and suspense. Usually I can guess where an author is going. KMM surprised me with every turn of the page and I couldn't put it down until the last page was turned. Amazing!

Fantastic ending!. Don't listen to the reviews that say it's not a good ending. Definitely has parts you didn't expect at all and ties them all together. Great series!!

Shadowfever. It is a great book, Mac learns and grows up here. All the twists and turns with the background characters come out. Definite must read. Moning really outdid herself with this book. You are on the edge of your seat to the end.

Bloated series with an unsatisfying end. This is the final of a five book series that tells one story. Each book ends with a cliff hanger, mid-scene, encouraging the reader to continue on. This book cannot stand alone, yet is bloated with extended summaries from the previous installment. This should have been a three book series, but the author drags it out across five. (SPOILERS) In the climactic final book, in the middle of the apocalypse, the hero and heroine hide out to have sex for an entire week. So much for worrying about the fact that the world's population has been decimated and continues to decline. As soon as the main characters finally have consensual sex, the hero completely changes to a love-professing idiot whose values have uncharacteristically shifted. Fortunately, this comes so late in the story that the reader doesn't have to suffer too long. The final battle doesn't resolve the larger issue that the world is going to hell, and the prior revelation of the beginning plot (who killed her sister) is eclipsed since revenge seems no longer to be a motivation. I can't help but feel that if the writer hadn't tried to drag out the story, she would have stayed more true to her original course and given a more satisfying conclusion. Still worth a read, but only just.

I want more!. I couldn't imagine a world without Mac and Barrons. It just wouldn't be right! This last fever book was electrifying. I'm not sure what Ms. Moning was doing at the precise moment she created this heat between Barrons and Mac or what she was even thinking, maybe there are creatures out there that possessed her wrote their stories thru her pen...I'm not sure. But what a story I loved every minute of the non-verbal conversations between Mac and Barrons and I wanted to hate Dani but couldn't. I wanted to know more about Barrons but if it means dying I'm fine with him just being the beast! Where are our Barrons at maybe I will take a trip to Dublin! Great, Great, great book!

Favorite book. Hands down my favorite book. I couldn’t stop reading!!

This series rocked my world.. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I don’t even know what to do now that it is over.

Wow!. Truly one if the BEST series I've ever read! I need more Jericho! Oh my YUM! so much more satisfying than twilight, and I loved twilight

The Best Series Ever!. This series is by far my favorite of any I have ever read! I am on my fourth time reading this series and feel like I could easily do it again!

Gave me chills!. Amazing. Loved loved loved it! Thank goodness for one of my best friends for recommending it! I am so glad it was long book and she took her time unraveling the ending. I didn't feel cheated at the end as I did with other novels. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire Fever series. It's dark, sexy, and so much fun to read. Found myself laughing out loud a few times. I love fantasy books. This series added more excitement and twists that I couldn't put it down. Finished the series in a week! Yes, it was that good. Storyline was well-thoughout and original. Characters were well-developed and stick to you. Overall, a great read. I hate final books because I always want more in the end, but I am so ecstatic to learn that she's writing more in the Fever world! Can't wait for more Mac and Barrons ;)

AMAZING!!!!!. The best out of the series!!! I have been waiting for this installment of the Fever series. Once I got it I couldn't put my iPad down!!!!! So many twists and turns! The plot was as always intriguing! You get a little of all of her books all rolled in to one, with a good pace of the book. A must read!!!! I love Mac and Barrons!!!!

I didn't want it to end!!!!. Brilliance! pure, unadulterated brilliance! I read it slowly and then hurried to find out what other twist in the road KMM would take me next. I savored every moment I had while walking around Mac's Dublin and falling desperately in love with Jericho (seriously, how could you not?!) this book and it's predecessors were my life for the four days it took me to read it! I didn't want it to end. I'm almost sorry it had to, but like a great book .... you can always pick it up (the beast is always waiting), open it, and get swallowed whole!!

Simply put...WOW!. I've read and re-read this book! It's awesome! The emotion and feeling that it makes you feel is fantastic. It's a wonderful explanation to everything that has gone on in the series and leaves me wanting more. It's just addictive!

I want more!!!. Moning did a fantastic job. I can't get enough of Jericho Barron's!

Saved the best for last!. I had been anxiously waiting for the release of this book, and I read it from cover to cover in a day! It exceeded all of my expectations! A wonderful, satisfying conclusion to Mac's journey.

Outstanding!!!. Simply outstanding!!!

Great Series. I have read all of the "Fever" books. Let me tell you, they are fantastic! Like Mac to Barron's, the series gets under your skin. Just when you think you know who is who and what they are about to do, Moning takes you in a surprisingly different direction. Get these books and then hold on for a crazy fun ride!

Love it!. Always a great ride. Sad to see it end.

for the avid reader. Dont miss this entire series. amazing characters through out with faced paced prose that keeps you entranced. You'll hate that its over!

Exceeded expectations. I bought the first Fever book in an airport expecting a mindless romance. After I landed, I immediately ordered the rest of the books online! This series is so good, like crack.

Awesome!. She couldn't have written a better conclusion to this series. Did not disappoint, Just the opposite in fact. I could not put it down. Mac and Barron's are now two of my favorite characters!

Best series. You will not be disappointed! These books will devour your time and you will happily relinquish them! Author is amazing. I applaud you!

100!. This series is by far the best you can ever come across. But it's depressing that all good things have to come to a end though. 

Shadowfever, the Best!. The best series, ~ever~!

Brilliant completion of the series!. Karen is one of my favorite authors and she really delivered with this finale of the Fever series. It is absolutely essential that you read the rest of the series, and I think it best to read before this book, but it is worth it! Mac Lane loses her sister in the first book and realizes that she is a sidhe-seer (someone who can see the elusive race of the Fae). She meets two mysterious men-Jericho Barrons and Prince V'lane (one of those elusive Fae). Both are out to use Mac and her skills as a sidhe-seer and some other special-to-her talents. Basically, the world starts going to hell in a handbasket starting in the first book because the Fae and human worlds are beginning to crash together. This completes the other four books perfectly which see Mac grow up as a woman and grow from ignorant of her abilities and her strengths into someone who really becomes a force of nature. It is fascinating to see her journey. There are some naysayers that say we didn't get enough answers for the mysteries of the characters, but Karen has said this isn't the end of the world that the Fever series occurs in, just the end of Mac and her Hero's story as the primary storyline, so I am not concerned about these questions. Karen writes beautifully and she really makes the Fever series come alive, and she makes the Fae and Celtic mythology interesting and something about which I love to learn because she makes it so fascinating. I absolutely recommend this book to any reader, I was not an urban fantasy reader (which is technically the type of book this is--it is often labeled romance, but while there is an underlying romance, I could not label it as strictly romance) and I don't really read any other UF, but Karen makes all of her books into the kind of books I read. Buy it- catch the Fever.

Love this series!. I absolutely love this series. We need more! This series is listed under romance. While I only read paranormal romance, I didn't read the series for a long time. Even though I loved the authors Highlander series. The descriptions don't really look like a romance. Read it! You will love it as I have. Mac is the best!
