The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • SOON TO BE A BROADWAY MUSICAL • The iconic novel that inspired the hit movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway—a gloriously wicked story about the ultimate Boss from Hell and the deals we make with the devil to get to the top

“The degree to which The Devil Wears Prada has penetrated pop culture needs no explanation.”—Vanity Fair

Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job “a million girls would die for.” Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of Runway magazine, Andrea finds herself in an office that shouts Prada! Armani! Versace! at every turn, a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants that show off their lifelong dedication to the gym. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared, whimpering child.

Andrea is sorely tested each and every day—and often late into the night—with orders barked over the phone. She puts up with it all by keeping her eyes on the prize: a recommendation from Miranda that will get her a top job at any magazine of her choosing. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not it’s worth the price of her soul.

Wonderful!!!. I read that book a while ago, even before the movie came out, and I loved it! I felt like someone was writting about my own experience!! YES some boss are exactly like that!! I had a very good time reading it and couldn't wait to see how the movie would turned out! I think Meryl Streep did a wonderful job !! Recommand that book!

Awful.. I have to be honest, I didn't finish the book. I couldn't take it any longer. Terrible!!! I picked it up thinking it would be similar to my favorite series (Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella) but it was one of the worst books I've ever written. Who ever directed the movie for this is a miracle worker. How he got such a great movie from such an awful books makes no sense. So I wouldn't recommend this to ANYONE. Check out the 6 Shopaholic books though. Those are fantastic.

Hilarious. Such a funny and lively book that turns out to be so uplifting and empowering. From someone who’s spent most of his life working in the fashion industry, I’m here to tell you that this book is as real as it gets. Enjoy it from beginning to end, don’t skip ahead, because every page is a hilarious delight.

Devil Wears Prada. Love this book! It's better then the movie! I wish I would have read this prior to seeing the movie!

电影很精彩,所以对原著也很有兴趣. 呵呵

Poop 💩. You are 😒

Amazing. I read it before the movie came out and reread it not too long ago. There are some differences between the two but it’s great. Definitely recommend!

The author is a racist. The book contains constant racist commentary about anyone who isn’t white - example - she couldn’t tell her two Indian roommates apart?!?! As well as broken English dialects.

Mind-numbing and 300 pages too long.... This was a truly terrible book. It may even be the worst (fiction) I've ever read! An absolute piece of tripe. 'Devil wears prada' by some woman whose name I can't be bothered to remember...'emily' something?... The premise of the story itself is promising, kind of a guilty pleasure exposé. But...it's about 300 pages too long and is badly in need of editing. The main character is extremely unlikeable, and the plot is contrived and near impossible to believe. I advise you -- for your own sanity -- if you are interested in this story, to just rent the movie instead. It is better edited and better executed than the rambling drivel I just numbed my brain with. My only question to myself is why did I bother seeing it through to the end? Two reasons: One, i had faith the ending would justify the tedious journey. And two, I paid for the ebook. The ending did not save this book! 3 days of my life, robbed from me forever. Oh, woe! =\ P.s. I can say without a doubt, that the single most irritating thing about this book was the schizophrenic narrative! It was written in 1st person (not a bad thing in itself), but it did an annoying flashback thing...constantly! The trouble with these flashbacks is that they were far too long, made me forget where i was, and forced me to flip back about 20 pages each time just to keep the timeline of the story straight! P.p.s. I feel very 'drained' from this reading experience, and honestly suspect that the author was using me (the audience) as her personal shrink-- since apparently the story is a bit of an autobiography -- or so google says. Lol, I feel used!!

The book of my life. This book is definitely one of the reasons why I love NYC, and why I came here to re-invent myself. I've read it once a year, and I never get tired.

Am torn...... This book compared to the movie was like night and day. Not sure why they went a whole new direction. The movie should have been called something else. The book all in all was a good story. Am torn. Should I had read the book first or not read the book at all?
