'Salem's Lot by Stephen King Book Summary

#1 BESTSELLER • Ben Mears has returned to Jerusalem’s Lot in hopes that exploring the history of the Marsten House, an old mansion long the subject of rumor and speculation, will help him cast out his personal devils and provide inspiration for his new book.

But when two young boys venture into the woods, and only one returns alive, Mears begins to realize that something sinister is at work.

In fact, his hometown is under siege from forces of darkness far beyond his imagination. And only he, with a small group of allies, can hope to contain the evil that is growing within the borders of this small New England town.

With this, his second novel, Stephen King established himself as an indisputable master of American horror, able to transform the old conceits of the genre into something fresh and all the more frightening for taking place in a familiar, idyllic locale.

Stephen King does it again!. Stephen King yet again, almost to be expected at this point, has written another phenomenal tale soon to be considered another King Classic. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat and acts as another page-turner, keeping me up at night, missing deadlines, and of course, longer bathroom breaks. King has now surreptitiously overtaken Michael Cricthon's spot as my favorite author. Can't wait for the next of King's works to read.

Salem's Lot. Having read this work first at twelve, then every eight to ten years hence--this last being at age forty-two, my reaction only grows stronger. With detailed character and story development, I regard Salem's Lot as a piece of valuable literature. With King's ability to reach deep into the recesses of the mind and extrude my deepest fears, I find myself forever twelve--clutching a crudely-constructed Popsicle stick crucifix as I vainly attempt to find sleep after finishing the last chapter of the night.

Classic. Classic Stephen King. Like a modern day Dracula.

Pretty good book. I'd read Stephen King before I picked up this book. When you think of Stephen King, you think of a great fast paced story that has characters that you either love or hate. Now this book had most of that. But the first thirty percent is just SO slow. I was waiting for someone to get torn up by some vampires. But as always Mr. King, you don't disappoint when it comes to the climax. I guessed at every turn and was surprised by the ending. The ending you should have cut out because it had no point. But, all things considered, a great book Mr. King, excellent literature.

Rating system. Ironic that if you give it a 1 rating it will never move to submit. You change it to a 5 it lets you submit… I hated it … it’s a 1 but won’t let me submit it and move on…

Great vampire book! Classic. As I type this on my iPhone I will keep it brief. Great book- pacing is a little slow for some at the beginning, but what he does is paint a great picture of a small Maine town getting over run by vampires. 5 stars from a fellow Manie-iac!!

Mr Barlow will enjoy you too.... Still remember the sweats reading this in a summertime bedroom in my teen years and it's still scary all these years later. Thank you Mr King for sparking my desire to read!

Great Book, Terrible Formatting. Why are there spaces between each paragraph on some eBooks? I know when a paragraph ends and a new one begins without having unnecessary and distracting spaces between every single paragraph! Especially frustrating during dialogue.

Thankful. for this book. It inspired a lifetime of reading.

Short stories included in purchase removed. Why were the two short stories included in my original purchase removed? Both Jerusalem’s lot and one for the road have been taken out. No excuse for removing content already purchased. Also, the app will not allow 0 or 1 stars. 1 is lowest but the submit button will not click. Solid way to do business apple.

Great read!!. Another Wonderful King read!!

Sleepless nights. This was his first book that I read lo those many years ago. I was about 32 y/o. I finished it at 2 in the morning and spent the rest of the night in the dark listening for noises.

Bloated. Eh… so many characters, and so much backstory. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as King’s other books.

A fascinating read!!. Amazing book with such visible detail in the mind to put the story into perspective. Made chills go down my spine and worry creep in my mind.

Salem’s Lot. I reread this and it’s still a great book!!

Awesome Vampire Story. I wish there was more!!

Great read. What a great book! I read it in three days! I’m hoping there is a movie (although we all know it won’t be near as good as the book).

In my honest opinion.... ‘Salem’s Lot is the best book by Stephen King. I loved the books “The Stand”, “The Shining”, and “It”, but I really love ‘Salem’s Lot. I think that this take on the Dracula/vampire story is the best out of any that I’ve seen. The characters in this book are so perfectly written. The unassuming hero, his young sidekick, the fallen priest, the small town sheriff, they are all perfectly written. I can’t write, but even if I were the greatest author ever, I don’t think that I could possibly write a better version of, let alone any novel, better than The Lot! Thank you Stephen King. When I think of the most terrifying vampire of all time, I don’t think of Dracula, I think if Kurt Barlow!

Good read. Holmes

Creepy... in a good way. This is not your daughter's vampire novel.

Master storyteller. This book has always been a favorite. I have read it several times and decided recently to download it to the iPad. I read it again in preparation for Halloween. Once again, I was hooked and could hardly put it down. I had a few bad dreams which only makes me more convinced that this story takes on a life of it's own. Thank you Stephen King. A Sturgill

love this technology!. iBooks rock! And this book was particularly awesome. I've had nightmares, which I welcome gladly BTW.

Great read. Great story. Well done.

Salem’s Lot. Stephen King’s best story. Leaves you wanting more!

Not scary at all. After reading the reviews of other fellow readers, I downloaded this book thinking that it would be one of the scariest books one could ever put their hands on...I was really disappointed. Slow for the first half and, in my opinion, in terms of fright level on a scale of 10, where the movie "The Ring" or "The Grudge" would be 9, this would only be 4. If you are into horror movies and are curious about this book, I'd say save your time and watch the movie version of it. This book is over 1,200 pages on the iPad horizontally.

Excellent Book!. This book is absolutely thrilling. Once you’re hooked you can’t put it down!

Pulpy Vampire Fun. I read ‘Salem’s Lot while staying at a labyrinthian colonial house in New Hampshire for a wedding. I was crucified to King’s every word as I shivered through the prose. And, I kept asking myself, what was that large sideboard doing in the cellar of this ancient house in New Hampshire?

Easily Within my Top 2 Stephen King Books. Superb combination of great storyline and memorable characters...one of Kings best works!

A Solid Slow Burn. My Journey to the Dark Tower I recently decided to start reading the Dark Tower series but wanted the full experience so I got some recommendations and compiled a list of books relevant (hopefully!) to the extended lore. This book 1 on that list . Takes a bit to get going but a good read. It’s a good ramp up once it gets there. The writing is beautifully done. Thought I was going to have a stress induced heart attack towards the end XD As my first read, I have no idea how this plugs into the DT series but I’m excited to find out!

Creepy!. The best vampire novel since Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Breath taking (literally). My review will be short but sweet. Along w many other works of King, I've had the "pleasure" of reading this book several times throughout my life. I've read non fictional horror and fictional horror the most. This is the only book...ever...that has quite literally, given me nightmares. It's top quality King and it is VERY well worth the read.

Slow-Burn Horror At its Best. I read this back when I was in my early teens, and the slow and gradual dread King creates in Salem’s Lot is just as impactful today for me as it was then. A must-read for any vampire fan.

So scary. Just finished rereading this book and if anything it was scarier then the first time! King at his chilling best!

Still creepy. I was a kid when I first saw the movie on tv some 25 years ago. And that face of Barlow scares me to this day. I finally came around to read the book and the movie doesn't do it justice. Get it and enjoy it...classic.

Loved this book. I haven’t read a book since I was in high school. I decided to get a library card and get back to reading and let me tell you I’m so happy I chose this book!! How it all comes together is amazing wished there was a second part to it because I would definitely read it as well!

Awesome. Awesome ess

Vampires. The book was riveting. I couldn’t put it down. Stayed up into the wee hours of the morning. Had to turn my light on in my bedroom twice because I thought something or someone was standing over my bed! Ha! Of course there wasn’t anyone there. Great read! Love Stephen King’s way of storytelling.

Great!. I quite enjoyed 'Salem's Lot. I look forward to reading more from S.K. He's an excellent storyteller.

Pretty Good. Overall, the book was pretty good. My only small complaint would be the unrealisticaly witty characters which causes the dialogue to fall flat at times.

Salems lot. This was the first Stephen king book I read and from here on I was hooked.

Very good book!. I love vampire stories, and this was a good one.

Good, but not my favorite. It was worth a read, but not my favorite King novel.

Amazing. This books got me through the boredom. It is well written. An amazing story to read.

Loved it!. Great book!

Stephen’s Vampire one. In a Mount Rushmore conversation about Stephen King novels, or vampire novels, Salem’s Lot would be right there on both. A bloody delight from cover to cover.

Still love this!!!. I read this book many years ago and I decided to read it again. It still scared the hell out of me and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. One of my favourites!
