Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice Book Summary

The spellbinding classic that started it all, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author—the inspiration for the hit television series

“A magnificent, compulsively readable thriller . . . Rice begins where Bram Stoker and the Hollywood versions leave off and penetrates directly to the true fascination of the myth—the education of the vampire.”—Chicago Tribune

Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly sensual, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force—a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write.

All Time Favorite!. I first read this when I was 12. I have read it at least once a year ever since. Love it.

Great book!. I couldn't put it down- it's enthralling, symbolic, subtly erotic, gentle and surprising at the same time. A book you'll want to read over and over again, because it's defidently worth it.

Best thing since Twilight...surely you jest.. Interview was the impetus for Twilight, but much better. The entire Vampire Chronicle series is a must read. And when you are done, read about the Mayfair Witches. Glad to see this e-book.

Genius. This tramples Twilight. Anne Rice is an amazing writer. The detail in this book and all of her books are such a beautiful thing. I cling to all her characters. Twilight is a good book badly written. I used to be a twihard but Anne Rice has been and will always be the queen of vampire and description.

Fabulous read!. It was the best thing until Twilight! Still an amazing read!!

Just finished it. I really enjoyed the read. The greatest asset I think of this book is its fluidity. It has smooth continuity. The characters I enjoyed, especially the main Louis, whom to me was as noble as anyone could be in that sinful position, and Claudia, whom I found to be such an artful addition to the story. There wasn’t any annoying character which is rare for books in my opinion (lol). The author does a great job at unaffectedly developing the relationships, where you become invested in them. And I thought the ending very clever. Cool book!

IWTV Is The Best Vampire Story Ever. This is my favorite book of all times. A friend had suggested that I read it and I was reluctant about it. I'm glad I gave in because years later it remains as exciting as it was the first time I read it. I don't know why people compare it to the Twilight series. They have nothing in common except for vampire characters. I prefer Anne Rice's vampires. If you want to see vampires in a different light than anything you've ever read, this is the book for you. It's beautifully written. If you saw the movie, forget what you saw. The movie is completely different from the book. I didn't like it. Read the book, you will love it.

The seminal vampire novel of our time. Cannot believe some just compared this book to twilight, what a joke. It's nothing like that teeny bopper garbage. This book is a classic that transcends the genre. A great read, by a then great author.

Classic. A treasure of a classic vampire story!

Interview. Great

Bloated, 380 pages should have been less than 100.. It's possible for a book to not be descriptive enough. Then there is this whale of a tale: paragraphs upon paragraphs of describing honeysuckle and kudzu and cobblestones. Enough already! This is a dull book about walking through courtyards, gardens, going to theaters, riding in carriages...oh...and vampires are stuck somewhere in it. Simply put, reading this was like trudging through a thick Louisiana swamp.

Interview with the Vampire. The story starts a bit slow and sleepy, but as the characters develop and their stories intertwine it quickly becomes a page turner.

Fantastic. I love this book.

Brilliant. I absolutely fell in love with this book. It’s filled to the brim with rich characters, an even richer storyline, and will keep you entranced throughout the entire novel. I definitely recommend this to all who love the thrill of the gothic story. I found it absolutely impossible to put down. Anne Rice sure knows the hell what she’s doing. All in all, a mere five stars does not do this book justice. It deserves ten stars at minimum.
