Zero Day by David Baldacci Book Summary

Combat veteran and U. S. Army investigator John Puller is on the hunt for justice with the help of a homicide detective -- but as they face deceptions and dead ends, a powerful force threatens to stop them forever.
John Puller is a combat veteran and the best military investigator in the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Division. His father was an Army fighting legend, and his brother is serving a life sentence for treason in a federal military prison. Puller has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable drive to find the truth.
Now, Puller is called out on a case in a remote, rural area in West Virginia coal country far from any military outpost. Someone has stumbled onto a brutal crime scene, a family slaughtered. The local homicide detective, a headstrong woman with personal demons of her own, joins forces with Puller in the investigation. As Puller digs through deception after deception, he realizes that absolutely nothing he's seen in this small town, and no one in it, are what they seem. Facing a potential conspiracy that reaches far beyond the hills of West Virginia, he is one man on the hunt for justice against an overwhelming force.

Great book, with the money. A great book that will keep you in suspense.

Zero Day. Good book. New character Puller has potential. I will read next in the series.

Zero Day. Great read. Good story with a lot of action.

Zero Day. Great read from beginning to end. Felt as if I was in the book. The ending was great but why did Sam have to die?

Zero Day. Very disappointing. Weak plot, silly story- a poor imitation of a Jack Reacher novel. Save your money.

Zero Day. Terrific read. Six stars. Many Jack Reacher parallels. But B. Should NOT have killed off the girl!

Just this side of awful. Terrible. I agree with others that this character is a poor man's Reacher. But, what's worse is the completely unbelievable plot developments. SPOILER ALERT: one guy untrained in nuclear anything sent in to a possible ambush to be talked through defusing a nuclear device by his brother, a federal prisoner who also happens to be a nuclear bomb expert. . . Come on!

Zero day. As always, Baldacci is fantastic at telling a story. This is another of his great books.

Zero Day. This book was awesome!!! David Baldacchi is an incredible spy thriller writer.. The best I have ever read.. Lots of research done and not a lot of fill in with over-descriptions, like so many other writers....You can't put it down!!!

zero Day. very good book, I loved it

Zero Day. A passable book but I agree that it is a Jack Reacher copycat. Even the female character is a takeoff of the one in Lee Childs book "The Affair".

Not his best. It's a good read but not Baldalci's best book. Buy it for a long flight on vacation.

Zero Day. John Puller first in a series. Not as good as The Forgotten

The author's a little off his game. Good book. Good story. Character development of John Puller could be better. Comparisons with Lee Child's Jack Reacher are inevitable and Baldacci's job with Puller come off second best. If the author uses him again, maybe he'll do better. The story came to a conclusion pretty fast after a more measured pacing for most of the book. The book is better than ok, but not by a whole lot.

Zero. Interesting

Zero Day. A big fan of Baldacci, I loved this book. The amount of research put into writing it was evident. Each of the characters were interesting personalties and their descriptions were such that you could clearly see them in your mind. A great page turner!

Zero day. Baldacci is my hero When it comes to books but this book just did not do it for me. I rarely put any of his books down when I start them and this one was boring... Could not wait to get it over and done with.

Proof readers. Participle before a gerundive Enjoy the books. Please check this English rule. If on purpose for the average reader ok. But not correct. His seeing not him seeing. Any in the five booked reading currently. Jim Lambeth III

Zero day. Shameless second rate plagiarism of Lee Child's Reacher series. I don't know what I find more astonishing that a well known author would write such a transparent fraud or that a publisher would print it.

Too wordy... maybe a little more romance and surprises. Too many characters to keep track of .

Haunches. The use of the word haunches confirmed for this book. The book starts pretty slow. Puller initially is pretty unlikable. He mansplaining everything to everyone and it’s pretty annoying.

Meh. I can see some similarities in this and some of his other main characters he uses. This was not my favorite. It wasn’t bad, but I prefer his Memory Man series.

Great reading!. This book was a real page turner! Kept me on edge through the entire story. The characters were very interesting, and the plot was fascinating. I will recommend this book to my friends.

Hard to get into. Have enjoyed all the Baldacci books I've read (All he's written, I believe). This is by far the poorest. It's long and dragged out. Doesn't hold the reader's interest. Was happy to have finally finished it. Hopefully this was just a fluke and future ones will be back on track.

More than just nothing!. A well researched and constructed story, both violent and tender, but firmly leads the reader along through to the final conclusion before setting one in search of the next dose of entertaining prose from Mr. Baldacci.

Zero Day. Wonderful story that grips your attention throughout!

One of the best. Could not put it down :)

Another moving story. This was an awesome start to another series by Baldacci and I look forward to reading the rest! He quickly became a favorite author of mine just a few chapters in.

Excellent Read. I could not put the book down, enjoyed every page. Baldacci continues to out do himself with great story telling ability. Place this book on the top of your must read list.

Zero Day. David Baldacci. John Puller is a highly decorated combat veteran. Now a special investigator for the Army. He is assigned to a remote area in West Virginia to investigate the brutal murder of a Colonel and his entire family. The Colonel his wife and two children. And the body count continues to rise. He is the only investigator assigned to the case. His only help is from a local sergeant and homicide detective Samantha Cole. She and Puller become close and she unfortunately loses her life. Puller has been betrayed by his new superior. A traitor whose motivation is as old as time….monetary gain, money. A stupendous read!!! Enjoyed immensely!!

Loving this book!. I'm over half way through this book and can't put it down...I'm definitely a Puller fan. Looking forward to further series.

Zero Day. Good read. New character with potential. Ending. A little too pat but would recommend the book.

Zero Day. Not his best. The story is rather simplistic and the characters are not developed. The plot is also superficial The hero is almost silly with his skills, strength, toughness ad nauseoum.

Baldacci. Sixth man and zero were his usual greatness...I couldn't put either down and mourned the facts that my day would now continue without the character in it...especially Cole

WHY?!?!?!?. To Jadpack....here is a tip for you.....next time you write a review.......do not reveal the end of the book and ruin it for anyone reading the reviews who are trying to decide if they want to read the book!!!!

Not his best work. Very much a slow read. This story was mediocre and at the end it just did not make sense. Very disappointed in this work by an otherwise fine author. There is just no point to the story and was very far fetched.

Really good except the end. The end is hastily written

A copycat. Not horrible, mildly entertaining but WOW, a rip off of the Jack Reacher series. Look at the names Reacher, Puller. Haha. They both drink black coffee, both keep time in their heads, are both the same height and weight. Both have army dads and are both army investigators/MP and are both war heroes. Unreal...how is Lee Child not suing?

Zero Day. I have read many of Baldacci's books and loved them, the many twists and turns. About the time you think you have it figured out, you find something new. Although I enjoyed this book, I didn't find it to be as intriguing as his other books. I will read more with Puller as the,aim character since I do enjoy his adventures.

A well done thriller. This is easily the best Baldacci in some time. Puller is like Jack Reacher in many ways. I look forward to the next Puller story.

Zero Hour. David Baldacci introduces us to John Puller in Zero Hour. This guy, a CID agent, could be exchanged easily for Lee Child's Jack Reacher. Any fan of Reacher will feel right at home following Puller through this escapade. The remote location in West Virginia is a Reacher kind of place and the interaction with the locals is also typical. Even the rough action and problem solving methods are what you would expect from one of the Army's finest. This is a great story from a great writer and I hope we get pulled into more Puller adventures in the future!!

Zero Day is good !. Good read with much detail .

Zero Day. I consider books in a similar way that I consider other "works of art". Whether it be a painting, a sculpture, a poem, a symphony, architecture or something else created in the mind of the artist, I want to be "impressed" in the true sense of the word. Zero Day is without question impressive. At the same time I must admit that while the plot was not exactly 100% believable, the book was 100% entertaining and a definite page turner. A great read delivered by a true artist.

Could have been more original. Baldacci totally rips off Lee Child's excellent Reacher series and comes up a bit short.

Great action packed story. I loved reading another John Puller story! This was hard to put down and stop reading to attend to everyday life. The story kept you guessing and in the end gave you all the details you crave. I hope there will be more stories about John Puller.

Zero Day. My kinda book. No mush...couldnt put it down. Thx!

Action to the Max!. Couldn't put it down. Fantastic book! The action just never stopped.

Good writing. Derivative character.. The Puller character is gonna be compared to Jack Reacher. That's just the way it is. And there are a lot of moments that feel like its Jack Reacher. But once you're past that you'll find a good book. Baldacci is a better writer than Lee Child. He does much better research. The weapons and military facts and military life were much much more accurate than the constant errors in a Reacher book. It's easier to get into the story because of that realism. You'd be surprised how distracting it is when a writer constantly misstates the number of rounds a handgun takes. Things like that don't happen here. Add in the superior storytelling and its a good time. I'd like to see how the character will develop over a few books.

Non-stop action. Really enjoyed reading the book-once I goy started, I couldn't stop-looking to the next book

Zero Day. Well structured plot few surprises but believable military elements. As an ex special forces soldier I found the story believable

Captivating. Mon premier livre iPod et il est excellent du début à la fin

Very good story. A little bit "cliche" but veru entertaining. I loved every single page of the book.

Zero Day. Reminds me a lot of the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. There were far too many army references and initials for my taste.

Sixth Man. Very slow moving book. It took forever for me to finish. I am a big fan of Baldacci but not this one

Zero Day. Another great book from this author. He has introduced us to a new character. He's down to earth, with funny parts as well. Keeps you interested right to the end. Hopefully will become another series.

Zero Day. Good read, enjoyed the book well worth the cost of the down load. Baldachi is a good fiction crime drama author,
