Child of the Mist (These Highland Hills Book #1) by Kathleen Morgan Book Summary

In the harsh Scottish highlands of 1565, superstition and treachery threaten a truce between rival clans. It's a weak truce at first, bound only by an arranged engagement between Anne MacGregor and Niall Campbell-the heirs of the feuding families.

While Niall wrestles with his suspicions about a traitor in his clan, Anne's actions do not go unnoticed. And as accusations of witchcraft abound, the strong and sometimes callous Campbell heir must fight for Anne's safety among disconcerted clan members. Meanwhile his own safety in threatened with the ever-present threat of someone who wants him dead.
Will Niall discover the traitor's identity in time? Can Anne find a way to fit into her new surroundings? Will the two learn to love each other despite the conflict? With a perfect mix of a burgeoning romance and thrilling suspense, this book is historical fiction at its best.

Child of the Mist. Holy cow, I just got done reading this book, and it was so amazing. When I first started reading it, it was literally to sustain my boredom in an SSR (Silent Sustained Reading) period, but I found myself hooked.

Child of the mist. Very different from what I normally read. I enjoyed it and wasn't sure who did it until close to the end. I enjoyed the Christian aspect and no bad language. Thanks!

Read it three times. I enjoyed the book. You'll want to tear your hair sometimes because of the deep mistrust keeping the main protagonists apart. Overall, fun and romantic read.

Puritanical Christian claptrap.. An obligatory attempted rape and incredibly predictable. Wife to subjugate herself to find joy in love. Utter waste of time.

Child of the Mist. When I first started reading this book I didn't care for it but I kept reading it and I glad I did.

Lacking. It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. The author is talented enough with words, but her character development lacks realism. I just didn't buy the romantic feelings between Anne and Niall---they just seem to come out of nowhere. In my opinion their feelings should have changed more gradually throughout the story with more substance instead of being as abrupt as they were---and were the two only together for two months in this entire story? How is that enough time to develop romantic feelings when they started off hating each other and Niall restricting Anne from her one calling in life (which never actually gets resolved satisfyingly)? How in the world did Niall win Anne's affections except through appealing to her sense of pity for his grief over his dead wife? Was that all there was? Not only was the relationship between the lovers unbelievable, so too was the relationship between cousins Niall and Iain. I can't imagine a man with a reputation such as Niall being that blinded by jealousy to such an extreme degree (even before he acknowledge his feelings for Anne); he should be more level-headed since he's in a leadership position. All in all the story had potential, but the characters in this setting were just not convincing. The only thing that kept me reading to the end was the mystery subplot.

Well done!. I don't usually like books that are set in the 1500s. This one has change my opinion of that era. It makes me want to seek out other books from this time period. Very well-written book I could hardly put it down.

Campbell Traitor. An involved story of "Who Done It?" with nail-biting intrigue from the beginning to the end. Love questioned and faith tested brings the reader to surprises with each page turned. Well written. Full of love, laughs, and faith-building encouragement. A difficult book to lay down.

Moronic. This has plenty of anachronism and inconsistency. The characters can't decide if they speak American English or overdone Scottish brogue. And there is way too much staring at taut thighs for this to be excused.

So good!. Loved it. Exciting and romantic.

I love everything Celtic ❤️. The book is good and the author has a talent, but some parts were not very convincing or admirable. I liked the plot, both the romance and the suspense were interesting and enjoyable. All in all, it's a good read and I would read another book by this author.

Child of the mist. Excellent story line, characters you learn to love and despise. Perfect touch of religion. Hard to put down

Child of the Mist. Wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but couldn’t seem to put it down. Mystery, romance, and who do you trust.
