The Swinger by Michael Bamberger & Alan Shipnuck Book Summary

A sports hero seeks a comeback in this wildly funny and ultimately redemptive novel.

His name, as we all know, is Herbert X. “Tree” Tremont, and he’s the richest and most celebrated athlete of our time—a multicultural golfing icon with fifty-three Tour wins, thirteen major victories, a smoking hot wife, and two adorable kids. But when a reporter uncovers evidence that Tree’s sexual appetites are as prodigious as his tee shots, his public and private lives collide, producing the juiciest scandal in sports history. In this wickedly funny novel that takes readers between the ropes and the sheets of the PGA Tour as never before, the only thing more entertaining than Tree’s downfall is his quest for redemption.

The Swinger. Excellent read....if you are a golf fan and have had this burning curiosity as to what "may" have really happened to Tiger....this book is about as close as we can get to the actual story. Well written...humorous, sad, shocking, and yet folksy...it delivers. Whether you are a Tiger fan hoping for his come back or just a golf fan hoping the game can recapture some of it's lost magic you will find yourself both hating and rooting for Tree in this one.

The Swinger. Well written, in first person - just enough different from the real story to make it both fascinating and intriguing. The author stays far enough out of the way to let the story tell itself

Eerily close to the truth. A throughly enjoyable read. The author did a good job of exposing what makes people like "Tree" tick. Very plausible story of what really happened and how it happened. Too bad Tiger didn't have Mr Baumgartner in his circle of trusted friends to help guide him through his mess. Where the book departed from the actual events, was the actions that "Tree" took to re-build his life. The real Tree/Tiger, should have taken the route outlined in this book, but in real life he is still engaged in the cover up and hasn't changed at all.

Book. Good book, enjoyed it!!

The Swinger. A disappointment. Combination of what probably happened and the authors' version of a happy ending. Much more sad than funny.

Good book!. Entertaining read! If only a certain other golfer would have gone this route in the end!

Good read. This was such a good read and kept me interested the whole way through. I don't like not knowing which parts are true and which are pure fiction though, because I actually look at Tiger in a different way now.

Outstanding. Finally, a funny sports book! Great work.

The Swinger. I haven't read a book in years and couldnt put this down. I have recommended it to a number of folks and enjoyed it immensely.

Great Book. Very entertaining and funny at times. You can't help but think of another golfer while reading it. Hmmm?

Dissapointed. I was interested in this book since somewhere, either in the reviews or the description, there were references to this being a great golf book. I found the book to significantly miss the mark. Is it fiction or non-fiction? At times I wanted to say to the author "if you want to write fiction then please come up with your own story and if this is non-fiction do the research and write it as such.".

The swinger...good, interesting. As a golfer and PGA Tour fan I could not keep Tiger's face out of mind, as intended, I am sure. I really enjoyed the book and only wonder on how much of it was truly based on "you know who". Does not matter, it was an interesting book.

Surprised. At first I figured this book would be a regurgitation of the Tiger Woods' saga. I liked what Michael did here. Very entertaining.

lol. Great book, curious of its accuracy, but fun nonetheless.

I can't believe they wrote this story. How do you write the Tiger Woods story using somewhat different twists, ie, bashed by a poker iron instead of a 7 iron, Bill Martinson instead of Phil Mickelson? I guess the authors figured if they went ahead and wrote the sleazy story of Tiger's downfall, they would sell some books, but if Tiger sued them, they would sell a million books. Win, win. It was a fascinating ride through the whole Tiger episode with an insider's fly-on-the-wall perspective. We get to visit the yacht, the private jets, the magnificent homes as if the author had truly been there. How much of it is close to the truth? Who cares. Quick, fun read for any golf fan

The Swinger. This is a great book about a person we want to see come back, and get back to his his winning ways both professionally and personally. This book gave some insight into a life that is and should be private. I still want to know what the hell "X" stands for in this book, maybe it will come out in the next year. Great job all around.

Great book...very light read for the summer. Great book...very light read for the summer
