Addicting. I can't imagine reading this as a serial in a newspaper as I would have been beside myself to know what happened next! Truly incredible, well-written adventure into lives that seem to oddly and unexpectedly intermingle. Although I've never lived in San Francisco, my partner was there in the Haight-Ashbury throughout the '70s and while the story takes place in another part of town, it still have a great feeling of what it must have been like for him there. I can't wait to continue to the next book. A small thing, but this is one of the best iBooks I've read with virtually no errors.

What the heck???. How come this is listed under Great Books $3.99 and less, but it is really $9.99 - Bait and Switch!

Excellent book, but too many mistakes in the e-book!. This is a thoroughly entertaining book that deserves a place in just about everyone's library. Regrettably, someone rushed the e-book through production. The e-book is littered with errors: spaces between words are eliminated, words are misspelled, entire lines are missing. It's as if someone ran the paper book through an OCR program and didn't care enough to proofread it after. I asked for my money back! If Armistead Maupin has an iPad, I bet he's embarrassed by the lack of quality control. We need Apple to tell the publishers (HarperCollins in this case) to do a better job of copyediting and formatting older texts!

Wonderful!. I really enjoyed this first novel in the "Tales" series. I've seen the movies, and I can't wait to start the next book of the series. I'm going straight to the next novel. A great read!

Takes of the City. Always a favorite! I love the entire series.

A fast funny but twisty soap opera. Life in San Francisco. Everyone should live there for a time. If you don't get that chance, at least try it vicariously through these stories!

Boring. I just couldn't get into this. Too much like a romance novel.

A bit dated, but interesting. The characters and intertwining stories are really interesting, but most of the references from this 1976 story went WAY over my head. It's definitely not a "timeless" story, but in the end I enjoyed it anyway. Now I'd like to read the other books in the series.

Quick, easy, and entertaining read!. Loved this book and can't wait to get started on the next. It definitely pulls you in and you will find yourself saying "Just a few more pages" into the late hours of the night.

Tales of the City. Alex let’s go with “Books that read more like TV scripts with one dimensional characters” please. This book has not stood the test of time, only reads well if you live or lived in San Francisco, and will be enjoyed by those people that like reading Michael Douglas & Karl Malden “Streets of San Francisco” TV type scripts... Boring...!!!

tales of the city. A timeless classic

Let yourself fall into Barbary Lane. I loved this book! I don't generally read for pleasure, but this was a book I couldn't put down. I highly recommend it. I've also read the second in the series and look forward to reading the rest!

Please bring back the original cover of the book. Please return this cover so it matches the other books in the series.
