A tad more research needed. Author should have researched when Mirandizing people into custody became law. 1939? don't think so. Rather an egregious oversight.

Amazing Read!. This book is so well written and it embodies everything I love about stories and reading. It has an excellent storyline and plot with amazing characters. It is suspenseful which kept me reading well into hours I should have been sleep. I don't regret one wink of sleep I missed due to reading it. As a lover of drama, suspense, comedy, interesting characters and intelligent writing this is perfect. I loved that it was set in Europe. I learned a lot while investigating the jargon used. After I read this and learned it was part 1 of 6 I knew I would be reading each book. I just finished Sins of a Father (book 2-which did not disappoint) and will beginning Best Kept Secret after I post a review about Sins of a Father (another 5 stars).

Not really a novel, Part 1. This is not really a novel. The story quits with a cliffhanger precisely designed to get you to buy more books. Wait for the rest to come out and come down in price and then meander through the whole story at the beach. Many anachronisms.

Bad cliffhanger. Very disappointed in the ending. Boring twist. Too many potential issues set up for me to enjoy it. The other parts of the book were okay but the timeline suddenly shifts and the book tends to be overly verbose. I never had trouble putting it down.

Loved it!. This will be a classic, just like Kane and Abel, and As the Crow Flies. Great story. Can't wait for the next book.

Epic tale. Reminds me of "East of Eden". Can't wait to order the next book.

Dead End (?). I read the first of this Harry Clifton series more because I lived in Bristol for a while. It took me a while to realise that the author had a number of characters running almost in parallel. At first, I found this annoying, since if I put the book down for a couple of hours, I had to recall which character I was "living". While the linkage between them became clearer as the book proceeded, at the end "Harry's" future looks very uncertain. The book leaves many questions unanswered in this between-the-World-wars, drama, and at times the character development is at best convoluted, and at worst, downright confusing. I will buy the next in the series, "The Sins of the Father", and hope this might bring this book's characters more to life.

Adequate. A fine story line lifted directly from Charles Dickens with only the names and dates changed to protect the innocent.

Please read!. How can I emphasize how much I want to get everyone to read this series.I do a lot of reading,and I'm the first one to bash a book if I don't like it.Ignore any bad reviews and immerse yourself in this tale.You won't be disappointed.

I should have listened. People said the ending sucked. It couldn’t be that bad. I’m going to do the unthinkable: when the 20 year old protagonist, who was 12 at the start, lands in 1939 Manhattan assuming the identity of a dead shipmate from a British merchant ship torpedoed by the Germans, he is arrested, read his Miranda rights (1939), and charged with first degree murder. End of book. Period No sequel offered. Nothing. But. Read it if you want...

Only Time Will Tell. This is a fantastic book. I could not put it down.

Enjoyable.... Until the end, I enjoyed this story. Having spent many hours on ships, the rescue did not ring true. Then, the grand finale when "Tom" was read his Miranda Rights... The Miranda Rights did not come into law until 1966, twenty+ years after the character's arrest in the book. Although a fictional story, these small details detracted a lot from the story for me, sad to say.

Routine Plot. Not a bad read, but a retread if many of the authors past works. Multi generational - but the key is whether you really care about the 2d characters - I was left undecided. But free download so no harm trying.

Really enjoyed the storyline. An easy and fast-paced read. Thoroughly enjoyed the first book of the series. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Another heroic success for Archer!. Very much enjoyed this novel, read as a precursor to Sins of the Fathers, due out tomorrow. As with all literary things Archer, compelling plot, well developed characters that you are either sympathetic to, or despise. Powerful story that at times has you gasping as you see the character unwittingly headed over the cliff, or the villian hiding behind thevpillar, proverbial dagger unsheathed ...ready to purchase the next volume ! Only time will tell. Worst ending I've seen - totally unbelievable ending . Villian disappeared; kills off another with a heart attack; and main character gets into very unbelievable "semi-plot, while rest of characters become bunch of loose ends. Ending following the "non-wedding" ruined the book for me and made it a waste of time.

Page turner. Keeps you entertained throughout the entire book. Want to see what happens next in the series!

Time will tell. At first I enjoyed the writing as it seemed to provide man authentic description if the period and the characters were interesting. However the plot development seemed a little strained as the book progressed. When I noticed a sequel was planned I realized why the ending was created but I felt manipulated and unsatisfied . I also thought Harry, the main character, acted out of character in his response to the last tragedy he faced.

Right of the bat. I'm a big Archer fan, and will tell you this is one of his best ones in a while ! Such a clever way to tell this story. I strongly recommend. Just sad I have to wait some time for next part of saga.

Horrible Ending. Read "Sons of Fortune" and loved it. It had a most satisfying ending so I decided to try this one. It read so well that I thought I had a new author to read. I enjoyed it immensely until I reached the ending. It was almost as of he lost his creativity and didn't know what to do. It was a most dissatisfying ending and left a bad taste in my mouth. I won't read another of his books.

Draws you in. This book draws you into each character as an intricate web is weaved. I couldn't put it down. It's intriguing and entertaining. I highly recommend it.

Excellent. First time reading an Archer and I was understand why he is praised an writer. Very well written and very interesting. I was almost teary eyed when Giles licked his bowl.

Ending sets you to read book two.. I know. Just get book two next thing you know you’ll have read all Clifton chronicles books. Master at best.

Fantastic. A wonderful book about how hard it was in England with the different classes. An amazing boy Harry with the help of his Mother and an even greater friend Jack helps him to beat all that. Unfortunately things don't go well and I'm so ready for the next in the series to find out what happens next. Super author

Highly recommended.. Great book! This is a nice introduction to the 5 part series. It takes a few chapters to get into it, but once you become fond of the main characters, you won't be able to stop reading for the rest of the series.
