A little whimsy, now and then, makes for good balance. Theoretically, you could find this type of humor anywhere. But only a topflight science-fictionist, we thought, could have written this story, in just this way….

It was quite by accident I discovered this incredible invasion of Earth by lifeforms from another planet. As yet, I haven’t done anything about it; I can’t think of anything to do. I wrote to the Government, and they sent back a pamphlet on the repair and maintenance of frame houses. Anyhow, the whole thing is known; I’m not the first to discover it. Maybe it’s even under control.
I was sitting in my easy-chair, idly turning the pages of a paperbacked book someone had left on the bus, when I came across the reference that first put me on the trail. For a moment I didn’t respond. It took some time for the full import to sink in. After I’d comprehended, it seemed odd I hadn’t noticed it right away.
The reference was clearly to a nonhuman species of incredible properties, not indigenous to Earth. A species, I hasten to point out, customarily masquerading as ordinary human beings. Their disguise, however, became transparent in the face of the following observations by the author. It was at once obvious the author knew everything. Knew everything — and was taking it in his stride. The line (and I tremble remembering it even now) read:
… his eyes slowly roved about the room.
Vague chills assailed me. I tried to picture the eyes. Did they roll like dimes? The passage indicated not; they seemed to move through the air, not over the surface. Rather rapidly, apparently. No one in the story was surprised. That’s what tipped me off. No sign of amazement at such an outrageous thing. Later the matter was amplified.

Horrible. It s not very good
I give it a thumb 😂. Rolling my eyes at this. Good author and has given us a many a sci-fi stories.
Okay?. It's a weird little story. I don't really see the point or reason behind it.

Fun Little Story. What an enjoyable little story! Great for when you need a few minutes to sit back and take life a little less seriously.
Interesting. I had downloaded this ebook a long time ago and barely got the chance to read it the first time. It was quite a bizarre and comical read, which had me questioning myself on what I was reading. And to top it off, the final phrase takes the cake. It's nice and short so it won't take much to give this a try. I definitely found some thought derived from this peculiarity

Pooooooor. It was rubbish!
Took longer to download then read. Oh that's it? Waste of time I thought it was going to go on into this guy was mentally ill but eventually found out there really was aliens living amongst us...I was wrong, liked his style though.

Literal literature. For those who take every word literally. Brilliant.
The eyes have it. Short and sweet, the story keeps you smiling through its 13 pages. Well worth a 10 minute read between everything else.
A nice little diversion. An amusing short story, certainly worth downloading for free. As another reviewer said, this would have worked as a Two Ronnies sketch. Read this and work through Dick's short stories and into his novels. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

Funny Dick. This one’s short, sweet and very possibly psychotic - a mental surrealist jaunt into a pedestrian world. Very funny.

An amusing diversion. While Dick's style of humor appears in most of his works, this is one of the rare examples of an entire short story given over to it. True P. K. Dick even though it is not a sci- fi story.
Clever, abrupt read. I liked this very much. It's so short and easy to take in that I dare not ruin the story here. I quite like the way PKD weaves the narrative in with a sub story and effectively expresses the story author's growing sense of paranoia and disquiet.
