Yes chef indeed. I can honestly say that I bought Soul Of A New Cuisine only because he was black, and this was years ago. Now having read about his journey, I am even more awed by his story, by failures, wins and all in between. M A great read.

Excellent book, but iBook version is missing some pages!. This book is a great and interesting read, however my iBook version is missing some pages, mostly at the end of chapters - anyone have any tips for remedying? Really good book, though, just wish I wasnt missing parts of it!

Fabulous!. Despite the comments about missing pages I went ahead and bought the book and I'm so glad I did! I was unexpectedly glued to reading this memoir. The story and writing draws you in and you find yourself walking side by side with Marcus. Seeing him on food network I had no idea he was so well decorated as a chef and had such an interesting story to tell. Thank you!

Eye-opening description of one chef's ascention. Kudos to Chef Marcus. His wisdom about food,taste, and cooking is reflected in the structure and style of his autobiography. I feel like I've just finished a great meal. He does not linger too long on one topic. He gives his reader adequate tastes of his youth, his experiences being trained in European kitchens, his food-related explorations, his identity struggles, his reunion with his African family, his relationships with the Obamas, and his triumphant recreation of the Red Rooster. His writing style is easy and elegant. I feel satisfied, but I would like to visit with him again in print. Maybe a series of essays inspired by diners at his restaurant? Highly recommend this book, especially if you want a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it is like to be trained in a European kitchen.

Yes, yes, chef!. This was a rip-roaring read. A combination travelogue, memoir and foodie sourcebook, Chef Marcus takes us with on his travels and includes us in his audience as he embraces the world. Thing is, the world has hugged him right back...

Great Book!. I had been looking forward to reading this before it was released and it did not disappoint! I couldn't put it down since I bought it. Great stories all around from the food to his life.

Thoroughly enjoyable. I really enjoyed this memoir. His journey around the globe is interesting, as are the stories and insights into the restaurant world, including personal commentary on race and class. You get a front row seat to a successful person's rise to the top, including sacrifices, failures and questionable choices.
