Criminal (with bonus novella Snatched) by Karin Slaughter Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“[A] hold-on-to-your-hat, nail-biting story.”—The Washington Post
“Slaughter’s best yet, by far.”—Lee Child

Will Trent is a brilliant agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Newly in love, he is beginning to put a difficult past behind him. Then a local college student goes missing, and Will is inexplicably kept off the case by his supervisor and mentor, deputy director Amanda Wagner. Will cannot fathom Amanda’s motivation until the two of them literally collide in an abandoned orphanage they have both been drawn to for different reasons. Decades before, when his father was imprisoned for murder, this was Will’s home. It appears that the case that launched Amanda’s career forty years ago has suddenly come back to life—and it involves the long-held mystery of Will’s birth and parentage. Now these two dauntless investigators will each need to face down demons from the past if they are to prevent an even greater terror from being unleashed.

All Emotions Present. Loved this book and oddly enough on business in Atlanta when i opened it! Sara has been one of my favorites since I started reading Karin's books. This book scared me to death, made me cry and appreciate more than ever the first women in law enforcement. They delt with so much just to follow their hearts and dreams. Cheers Karin! You made my work week away from home so interesting. Went to the Varsity just to have a burger and shake!

Criminal. The story was good but didn't like the way it ended! Didn't like the way it has been copied to download top n bottom of electronic book looks as if not all the words were copied. Not put together very well!

Criminal. First book I have read by Karen slaughter. Very intriguing book that kept my attention and made me try to put the pieces of the puzzle together as they slowly unraveled in the story. I am anxious to read more of her books.

WOW - Loved this book. I love reading Karin Slaughters book, this was very suspenseful and jaw dropping. Thanks Karin for keeping Will Trent going!

Karen Slaughter’s Will Trent. One of the most boring books I’ve ever read. Beside plodding along like a dog who has lost the scent, the story jumps back and forth through time periods, as if the part of the story in the current period wasn’t boring enough. Not a good book.

Criminal. This is the worst book I have ever purchased! Many pages are repeated several times and paragraph does not make sense ending chapter. Don't waste your time or money! Could not even finish.--

Best crime story. I have read in years. Loved her characters, the dialog and the 70's. Having moved into the workforce in 1972 Karen got it down.

Excellent read.. I loved the plot and characters in this novel. However, while reading I would come upon missing pages or the same page printed several times and sentences cut off in mid thought. I've never had this problem with any other books I have read on my iPad. The page count was correct. I would like to know how this happened because the book was so well written but annoying trying to keep up with the plot. It wasn't worth $13.99 due to the missing and repeated pages. P.S. Let's get rid of Angie, please.

Great read!. I loved this book! It tied up so many loose ends. I truly enjoyed reading about Will's story. I couldn't put it down!

Perfect!. Ties up so many loose ends in the Trent series that it is a veritable Gordian Knot. I did not want it to end, and look forward to whatever is next. Have read every book, and wait with bated breath for the next. A perfect unexpected ending.

CRIMINAL. Even though this author is on the New York Times best sellers list, I was not impressed by her writing. Too much takes place and the writing is as if she was writing a mini-series, not a book. Instead of enjoying the story, I found myself getting annoyed by all the ups and downs and downs and ups. It was like the song - The Song That Has No End - That Sherri Lewis used to sing. The plot was poor and very long drawn out. One might ask me - well why did you read it? Because I always finish my books. One never knows if they will get better and more interesting. I would not recommend this book to my friends or anyone else.

Criminal. Kept me on pins and needles as usual. Karin never fails with her vivid imagination and character development. A constant page turner rich in Atlanta history! Will Trent for President!

Loved it!. I love the learning more about the character backgrounds. Ready for the next one!

Best of The Series. I know people always say this but, this book is the best of the series. I'm completely addicted to Amanda and Will and now I'm going through withdrawal. *Note: For those that had problems with missing text, just change the font size and the text will re-flow.

Criminal. OMG!!! This story swept me away. So loved getting a closer look at Will's story and his dynamic with Amanda. I have read all of this author's books and will be the first to pre-order her next. Her stories never disappoint & keep me on the edge of my seat every time.

Criminal. Enjoyed this book so much I could not put it down. I am looking forward to the next. Wish a book could be written as fast as we read them. Seem like forever before a new book is published. Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite authors.

Criminal. I have read all of her books, found her by accident & was hooked after the 1st one I read. I absolutely love her characters. Love the plot twists & her masterful way of bringing it together. I have been waiting for this book and as usual, I can thank her for another night of no sleep! Can't wait for what comes next..

Too Long. I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter's books but this one was too dragged out. The book could have been 100 pages shorter and still have told the complete story.

Needs re-editing. I really enjoyed this book; the writing draws you in and the storyline grabs you from the start. HOWEVER, I got very tired of pages at the end of several chapters being missing and replaced by a duplicate of the next to the last pages. This was particularly annoying when it happened during a critical scene. One chapter left you hanging with Amanda rushing into the suspect's house. Someone at the publishing house needs to read this e-version and correct the mistakes.

Confused and uninterested. Love her previous books... This one, not so much

Great story. Like this story. The plot is interesting. Glad to see Karin's books keep getting better. I was heart broken when Sara's husband was killed. So I know Karin's story is very unpredictable. That's the way I like it.

Awesome!!!. TRue to form. Karin never disappoints. The characters we love are back with a vengeance.

Loved it. Couldn't put it down. I have enjoyed all of Karin's books and this was no exception. I love getting to know her characters better. Can't wait until the next one.

Her best!. By far the best book in the series with these characters. Kept me on the edge of my seat!

Criminal. This is the first book I have read by this author. I would probably have been better off if I had started with an earlier book with these characters as other reviewers say they enjoyed learning more about them. That being said, I found the story very confusing as chapters go back and forth between 1975 and present day. It is fairly graphic which is a large part of the criminal mind. If you can keep track of all the different characters you will probably enjoy the book more than I did.

A little disappointed.... I'm a huge Karin Slaughter fan & have now completed every single one of her books. Criminal does shed light on Will Trent's childhood, but I was pretty disappointed with having to read back & forth from "present day" and "1975." I don't mind this type of writing & can usually follow along, but this was a bit much. I often had to re-read pages or double check what year the characters were in. It was an interesting storyline & I loved getting to know the younger Amanda & Evelyn, but if you skip this book in her Series, you won't be lost. Looking forward to her next book ;)

Not my favorite. I’m hooked on KS and I loved most of the characters in this book. The ending was a bit of a stretch and made me roll my eyes a little and there were a few things and just felt thrown together to end things but great read for sure.

Loved It!. This book is worth every penny. Praises to Slaughter for a fantastic read.

Criminal. Great book and great reading.

Page turner. The best book in the series!!! Loved every detail!

Didn't love it. I love Karin Slaughter, I love Will Trent, but I thought this book didn't ring true in the flashbacks. The books version of the '70's is totally different than the '70's that I lived in. I spent half the time I was reading the book googling things. Glad to have Will's background, but disappointed in the research on the seventies.

Good formatting!. Very good, love this series! One of the few on iBooks that opens properly! I can not wait till the next one!

Criminal by Karin Slaughter. Karin Slaughter has done it again I think this is her best book so far. It’s full of excitement and we get to know more about Will and Amanda. It was a binge read and I am going to read it again. I can’t wait for the next book. Read this one it is excellent.

Ho Hum. I have to say that I'm surprised at the difficulty I'm having staying engaged with this new Karin Slaughter. While I don't love most of her books (except one), I'm at least moderately engaged. I'm finding myself a bit bored with what is a seemingly endless initial backstory for a character I've never cared much for anyway, along with a lot of needless grim or gory or bleak over-the-top descriptors in what feels like every paragraph. 'Stinking, putrid stenches', etc. seem to be everywhere, and they're feeling more like word filler than good writing to this reader. Enough already with the constant 'ick' factor. I thought Slaughter's 'Triptych' was a veritable work of suspense art, and I keep waiting for that calibre of story and writing to show up again. In the meantime I'm just not finding the ability to really connect with and care much about these characters or the writing. Wah Wah.

Poor formatting. The book is fantastic but it has not been formatted for iBooks properly. Pages are cut off at the end of every chapter. Very disappointing.
