A story I have loved through the decades. I just finished this book for a third time. I first read it over thirty years ago. This time, again, I could barely stop reading it each day so I could work and take care of my responsibilities. I encourage everyone to read it.

Gripping, terrifying, and brilliant. Wow! This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down and would recommend it to anyone. This was my first read by this author and I am def going to read more. 5 stars all day

Very good book. I enjoyed this book but i read it shortly after reading Steven King's book The Stand, hence only 4 stars. I would have enjoyed it more if the violence was turned down a bit. The torture, and killing infants was way too much for me.

One of the best post-apocolyptic novels. Wow. Could hardly put this one down. The writing and story didn't sit well ith me at first, but then it started to come together, and it turned out to be one of the best books I've read in a while. Easily as good as The Stand.

Love this book. I first read this book 20 some years ago when I was in high school. It fascinated and scared me. I could not put it down. I am re-reading it and wow!! I can't stop reading! The same fascination and terror and nightmares I had twenty years ago are revisiting me. This book has always been one of my favorites and I highly recommend this book.

Like The Stand...but better. All I can say is wow. This book is absolutely amazing from start to finish; a true page turner. I have read a whole lot of Stephen King, and this holds up with his best works. If you enjoyed The Stand, you will love this book.

Best book I've read. May be better than The Stand

Amazing. Honestly makes you think about who you really are and what you really stand for. Every person should read this book.

One of my favorites. I read this book while still in high school and it has become one of my favorites. I have read it 3 times since. I talked it up enough my husband read it and really enjoyed it also. McCammon has that storytelling talent of explaining characters so vividly that it is incredibly easy to visualize them like watching a movie in your mind.

Fav book still. I read this book for the first time over 20 years ago and it is still my favorite book. I read this before King's The Stand and I was disappointed by the stand. I have read this book about 6 Times and will read I again and again. I just got the audio version so I am stoked I can listen in my car. BEST BOOK EVER!!

Storytelling at its absolute finest. I purchased this book when it was initially published in 1987 and have worn out not one but three copies of the paperback. If I could find a hardcover version at a reasonable price, I would buy it in a heartbeat but they are rare and quite pricey on the used book market. Totally thrilled that I now have an e-book version of it. This is a story that, while definitely dated in view of world events taking place after it was written, still captivates you to the point where you completely lose yourself in the story and forget that time actually exists. Mr. McCammon's gifts for pacing, detail, exposition and eliciting emotion are second to none and he truly is a master at pulling the reader into the alternate reality he has created. You will experience genuine feelings of all stripes allocated towards the appropriate characters in this story from the very beginning right up to the last page. Thanks to the author's attention to every possible detail and descriptive device he can muster, the mental pictures generated of a shattered and tormented world and the treacherous journey of those characters living within it will have you imagining you are right there with them and trust me, it is really hard to pull yourself away from this book for any amount of time until you are done reading it. I have literally read this novel over a dozen times and while the story suffers only from some dated references to technology long surpassed after the writing of the book, it still is a thrilling ride through and through. If any of Mr. McCammon's amazing books have ever been worthy of film adaptation, this is the one that should get a full two-part movie treatment to cover both of the main sections of the novel. I only wish someone would green light a proper screenplay for this compelling and emotional story...if I myself were a person in the entertainment industry with clout, vision and resources, I would see to it that this got done!! You will not regret purchasing this novel. Simply one of the best - if not THE best - works of fiction you will ever read.

Very Long and Predictable. A wannabe version of The Stand with less relatable characters and watered-down villain.

Swan Song. I read this book for the first time several years back, sometime before my highschool years, it's hard to say when, as i've read so many books and have found so many amazing ones to lose myself in. I always loved reading. In my library back home in my house , where i spent many a day in the sun surrounded by plants, wooden walls and the scent of well used books on their shelves, I stumbled upon this book, disheveled and dog-eared. The grinning face of an evil man surrounded in flames with a chasm stretching out to the sun way beyon and behind it, and the words, Swan Song, I was intrigued already. I asked my mother about it and she wasn't quite sure I was ready for it, as she was only ready for it as an adult. Despite her doubts I undertook what I thought would be a task, as it was 800 plus pages and i was still young. I was almost instantly sucked deep into the story, the ink of the print swirling around me to create a landscape I will never forget. I read the book in eight hours, which was incredible to say the least, and when i'd finished, i hungrily devoured it again over a longer time in shorter turns. This book will always have a place in my heart, as a great adventure far from the average post apocalyptic text. It is a long and great journey that you will never forget. It gets difficult to read sometimes, but push through, it is worth it. It pulls no punches.

Great read. This was really a good book with great character development and an interesting story. It was pretty dark though... I kept waiting for something good to happen and waited a long time. About two thirds in, things pick up but it felt like a long time to wait. Still good though but prepare for a sleepless night or two...

Amazing. This is, by far, one of the most amazing books I have ever read. I began reading King and Straub several years ago and happened upon this book by Robert McCammon. I thought I'd give it a try thinking it would never compare to King. I was so wrong!!! I have read this book three times over the years and purchased it on my iPad so I can read it once again. To me, it is comparable to The Talisman by King and Straub. Just as well written and it kept me enthralled through out the entire book from start to finish. I would recommend this book to anyone!!! Great writing!

Amazing -. I've read this book several times over the years. Personally I think it's the best book ever written. Robert McCammon is my fav writer, I've enjoyed all of his books. Very happy to add them to my iPad. I highly recommend all of them if you need a good read.

Excellent. When I first read it many years ago, I couldn't put it down. All of Mr. McCammon's books are first class, but "Swan Song" is his masterpiece to my way of thinking. If you liked "The Stand" by King, you'll love this. It IS that good.

Waste of time and money. Where to start. The good, many words are spelled correctly. The bad. Horrible horrible writing. Reads like an 8th grade r wrote it. Just.....do not waste your time or money.

This is perfection. This book quite literally shaped my way of thinking, my grandfather read me his own edited version when I was about 8 or 9 taking out all the bits I couldn't hear then as I got older I must have read this a hundred times. I can't stress enough how important this book is to me, my ultimate favourite.

Amazing. An epic story that still haunts me months after reading. I'm finding it difficult to find anything to replace it! In my opinion this book is better than 'The Stand' which is high praise indeed.

Cannot stand. I love a good post- apocalyptic novel, and this is not that. A weirdly plagiaristic version of The Stand that doesn’t have any internal character development beyond ‘this thing happened and it made them more determined or more debauched’ and then nearly everyone has a moment of redemption, and then in the last 2-3 pages we enter a pre-lapserian rural american utopia Very poor

So much better than The Stand!. One of my favourite novels. I read it at least once a year.

Great story!. I read this book twenty or so years ago,and it's just as good now. A well written book great story and characters. I would recommend this book,you won't be disappointed.

Number one. This book rocked my world when I was 16, I have passed along my copy so many times it's tattered and ruined so I purchased the e-version so I can keep it forever!! One of the only books worth re-reading a zillion times!! Enchanting!

Swan Song. The most ultimate read of all time. I’ve personally read this book at least 10 times and each time I finish I want to start again. As we all have a favourite movie, song or quote this is my favourite book ever! A must read for young and old! I urge you to read Swan Song you will not be disappointed!
