A lone well-to-do child. I was curious to read the book of poems as I love RLS’s prose. I found some if the poems charming, the rhymes clever, and the themes appropriate. A couple of poems—actually, many of them—drip with condescending colonialism. The poems appear to be written for an upper-middle class, single male child. The boy has a nurse, and a gardener, and a cook whom he calls “cook.” Other than that, it was a charming, pleasant read.

Missing table of contents. As far as the quality of literature it is fantastic, but as an ebook it is missing a few features. This copy of the book does not provide a table of contents. There fore if you are looking for a specific poem you will have to sift through the whole book. Ibooks does have another free version that allows you to see the table of contents and click the page to arrive to it without going through the whole book.
