A Wanted Man by Lee Child Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“The indomitable Reacher burns up the pages.”—USA Today

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning. One man driving, another telling stories that don’t add up. A woman in the back, silent and worried. And a hitchhiker with a broken nose. An hour behind them, the FBI descends on an old pumping station where a man was stabbed to death—the knife work professional, the killers nowhere to be seen.

All Jack Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia. All he did was stick out his thumb. But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride. He has tied himself to a massive conspiracy, in which nothing is what it seems, and nobody is telling the truth.

“Furious action . . . [Lee] Child keeps the pacing swift and the surprises rolling. . . . [A] feverishly thrilling series.”—The Miami Herald

“Smart, breathless . . . [with] one of the best female characters in the whole Reacher series.”—The New York Times

“Subtle and nuanced [with] seductive writing and irresistible plot twists.”—Newsweek

Don’t miss Lee Child’s short story “Deep Down” and a sneak peek of his new novel, Never Go Back, in the back of the book.

Child does it again.... Another great Reacher novel! Hard to put down and entertaining to the very end. My only disappointment is that I finished reading it too quickly...

Casting jack reacher. I'ma long time Jack Reacher fan who agrees with the miscasting of Tom Cruise as Jack. Tom Cruise has played some exciting roles but he is not Jack Reacher. Perhaps this is a wild placement here but when I think of a physical presence like Jack, the NFL sportscaster Howie Long comes to mind. Of course he is not an actor but in terms of size, haircut, and looks I thing he would be a good fit. Jack is supposed to be 6'5" about 240 lbs. Meet Howie Long former linebacker for the Raiders. Of course Cruise is co producer so it might be difficult.

A Wanted Man. This is a poorly written story. I have read all of the Reacher novels and loved every one until now. This one is boring, Full of superfluous detail and is mostly about various people riding around in cars. I don't believe it was written in total by Lee Child. It seems as if many of the authors today are using collaborators, a la James Patterson ,to grind out books faster and make more money. I have quit reading Patterson's books, and will do the same with Child's, if he continues to put out stories like this.

Sell out!. I was an avid Reacher fan until I found out who they cast to play him in the movie adaptation. Total sell out. I will never read another Reacher novel RIP Jack I know you're turning over in your grave.

A Waste of Time. Unbelievable plot. Stuff just happens. Lee Child must have been paid by the word as he drug events on forever. He never develops a feeling for the characters and Reacher is a filthy slob with no direction in life.

Last Man Standing. Didn't feel this Reacher story was on par with many of the previous stories. There seemed to be too much wading through descriptions.

Jack Reacher. Big Reacher fan -not a big Cruise fan. However was pleasantly surprised by very credible performance. I think Liam. Neeson would have been a better choice.

Tom Cruse, really?. I have read all Jack Reacher stories and could not wait for the movies, but always envisioned either Val Kilmer or Liam Neeson to play the part, Tom Cruse is a great actor, but he is no Jack Reacher, i am not going to watch it.

Another thriller. Great book!!

Excellent!. Entertaining read, as usual.

A Wanted Man. Excellent reading from start to finish. Very compelling with unexpected, if somewhat fantastical, plot twists and turns, and a very satisfactory conclusion. Lee Child's Reacher novels appeal to all genders with his inclusion of significant, strong and sharp female characters.

A Dirty Man. Like many of his book endings, Jack requests to be dropped off at the nearest highway so he can hitch a ride down the road. According to this story he was covered with mud and dirt on his face and clothes. Not in a million years would anybody pick him up looking like that NOT MR CHILD'S BEST WORK

Lee Child - Jack Reacher - A Wanted Man. Lee Child’s writing style provides fabulously detailed descriptions of locations, events, thought processes and many additional areas in a manner that make his novels a fantastic read. You, the reader, become so immersed in the storyline that you are no longer a reader, you’re attempting to anticipate the next occurrence - you become a character in the storyline! Thank you, Lee Child, for another fabulous read!!!

Disappointing. I have read everything that Lee Childs has written but this book was a big disappointment. Poor character development, weak story line, and an overall painful read. If you want to read a Lee Child novel, pick any of his other works and you will probably enjoy it

Boring. One of the worst books in the Reacher series. I was so unbelievably bored the whole time. There were no good twists and the plot was boring. The ending was very anti climatic. I would suggest skipping this one completely.

Tom cruise???. Jack Reacher should be played by none other the Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson. I haven’t been able to read a lee child’s jack reacher since I can get Tom cruise out my head

A wanted man. Multiple pages are missing. Many parts redundant. Very disappointed.

Silly. I have really enjoyed the previous Reacher novels, but this is Lee Child at his worst. The plot is nonsense of never ending nothingness. Too bad, but this seems to be the fate of authors who have a serial character. I agree on the comments regarding Tom Cruise and can't imagine why anyone would cast a 5'6" actor to play a 6'4" character. So long Jack Reacher.

A Wanted Man. This is my first read by this author. I've been reading about Jack Reacher from the novelist, Diane Capri. And her books, Jack always is in the background and the person they are seeking. It was nice to see him as a real character and part of the "active real" plot. Someone suspenseful in parts, but not the edge of your seat kind. Very likable characters.

Mediocre. I didn't have high expectations after reading some of the other reviews, I am an avid Reacher fan and this book was just so-so. I liked that it wasn't jam packed with violence, his last one was a little too gratuitous. This books plot was weak, it was a long drawn out prologue leading to a rushed conclusion. The plot also seemed a bit improbable towards the end. If I hadn't read the other reviews I probably would have been more disappointed. Overall I would say borrow it from the library, and save the $. I have reread almost all the Reacher books, this wont be one of them.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher?. You have got to be joking!!!

A Wanted Man. Typically I am a fan of Child's work. This novel was too long on detail and too short on storyline.

A wanted Man. Another great Reacher story

Absolutely Worthless. Do not read. Unless you are need to know what happens in the Reacher series from one book to the next. 100 pages of nothing. Way too descriptive. Reacher is in the Third Person. Child, how did you honestly accept a paycheck for this “work?”

GOOD, but spent know guns. Glock 19 holds 15 round magazine, not 18

Poor reacher book. I love the reacher novels, but this was literally painful to read. No good characters, no story worth caring about and an absolute bore. Sorry, as most Reacher novels are fantastic! If not for past books, I never would have finished it...at least it's over now.

A Wanted Man. Pretty good, but not one of his best

Best Reacher Yet?. I could be wrong, but I finished this one in less than 24 hours, and not once did I look back and go " what?". Front to back, solid Reacher.

Wanted Man. Very disappointed in this one. My least favorite of the 14 jack reacher books I’ve read. Bad story line. Boring characters. This book made me fall asleep, while the others made me want to stay up reading all night.

Never disappoints. A great read, simply put.

This book is like crack. I read this book in 12 hours total including 6 hours of sleep ,no food. ,no shower no leaving my bed. Could not put it away. Kept hoping for a slow section , not to do something else but just to enjoy the book a while longer. Found no break other than sleep depravation ,yeah , a lot like crack.

Great but missing pages. Reacher is fantastic as always. Great read but I was missing a couple pages that were of course at critical action points. Bummer! One Example; Right when Reacher was facing the last 2 bad guys! I think I was able to piece it together though. Would very much like to know if I got it right. Great book thx! I'm really looking forward to the next one. Cheers!

Action the action wasn’t there and the ending was lame. Action the action wasn’t there and the ending was lame

Worst Reacher book. I have read every book in this series and this is by far the worst. Actually, let me re-phrase that, this is the only one I really did not like at all. Others were somewhat weak (61 Hours, Echo Burning), but still had their high points. It almost seems like it was written by someone else, completely different style with no suspense or good idea of who the bad guys even were. Very disappointed.

Sucked. Sucked

A wanted man. Each Jack Reacher book I read the theme stays the same . Jack Reacher serves as judge jury and executioner . Just a little different variation on the story line as well as location . The books are somewhat redundant

Excellent! Jack can really kick butt!. Nice breakdown of individual scenes.

Blah.. Having read all the Reacher novels there are now two books, Nothing to Lose and Wanted Man, that leave you wondering why you kept plugging along hoping the story would pick up only to be disappointed. Just for good measure, lose Tom Cruise in any future films, and the reference to Puller, was that an attempt in humor or an inside joke between you and David Baldacci?

Disappointing. A lot of worn out clichés. 80% of the book was spent describing surroundings. Boring.

A Wanted Man. Lee Child does it again! A super fast read,an excellent plot, smart and capable women and Reacher super hero wow!

Reacher. Probably no one will think this is the best Reacher ever, but it was very entertaining. Every Reacher fan will be hooked by the end of the first chapter. It is classic Reacher for all fans and if you love Reacher you WILL enjoy this book, almost impossible not to!

A Wanted Man. As I understand, Cruise bought the rights and cast himself. 6'5, 250lbs, fists like 2X4s and hands like shovels, add all the other character descriptives, and of course it's Tom Cruise. Hint. He was cast in "Magic Mike" ( so would likely have been interested in even an average script). Apparently, directorial debut and staring in action movie opening end of '14, is over 6'3. Guess.

Lackluster. Sometimes there's just not much juice in the tank and that leaves the author grasping at straws. I think this book is as bad as casting Tom Cruise as Jack. Are you kidding me? I just had to shake my head😳

Love this book!. Tom Cruise did an AMAZING job as Jack Reacher, I was one of the doubters but after seeing the movie 2 times I doubt no more...bring on more with Tom!!

A Wanted Man. Pretty much couldn't put this one down...just like most of Child's books. The only complaint I have ever had is the fact that he gets a little wordy in his descriptions, particularly about directions. Other than that, I completely enjoyed the book. Complex and corner turning constantly. Do it again please.

A Wanted Man. A good, solid Jack Reacher tale. Everything you read a Lee Childs novel to enjoy.

A Wanted Man. Interesting story line but way too much time taken up by meaningless details. Book could have been 100 pages shorter. That’s about how many pages I skipped over and missed nothing of the story.

Fantastic. I don't know how anyone can say anything bad here. Superb Reacher novel from start to finish. Hopefully everyone got the Puller references...that was hilarious. And the Puller books are actually not bad. Don't think twice about getting this book if you're a fan of other reacher books. Great story telling. Child has a way of making a paragraph about picking up a phone sound riveting. Enjoy !

Great. Great!

A wanted man. Tom Cruise as Reacher -you,ve lost your mind!

Too expensive. Ebooks are way overpriced.

Not the best. Predictable but unexciting. Implausible plot.

Great read. Child continues to keep you on the edge of your seat..
