Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (Harriet Ann Jacobs) Book Reviews

Must-ReadAs a young Black woman of only 26, it was continuously difficult for me to accept that the a counts of this book are not works of Fiction. The book is an excellent and unadulterated account of the tragedy of Slavery. I even shed tears...how often does a book make you cry??? So glad that I read this, finally. Do yourself a service, of any race or any sex, READ THIS BOOK..Score: 5/5

Pretty good. I enjoyed it!It's a pretty good book, but I have read better. It is extremely interesting and I enjoy it. The only problem I have with this book is that the language is kind of confusing. But, it was written a long time ago, so I can't complain. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!.Score: 4/5

INCIDENTS IN THE LIFE OF A SLAVE GIRLThis is a very good biography written by the author who was a slave girl in the 1800's. It gave me a good picture of what the slaves went through as "being owned" by white plantation owners. It is very sad in that the author had to become a fugitive and live in seclusion for 7 years of her life. It also gives a good picture of her raising her two children and how she got herself and her children free of slavery. A very good read and eye-opening..Score: 4/5

Riveting and heartrendingWhat a thoroughly deplorable institution slavery was and is. The very idea of one person owning another makes my stomach roil. God created all men in his image. Nowhere in the Bible does it say one color of skin is more worthy of freedom than another. Thank you for sharing your story, I imagine the telling came at great emotional cost..Score: 5/5

Great writing sad storyGreat read. I’ve read several similar narratives, and they are absolutely painful to read. It really shows the reality of the world we live in. I would suggest that everyone read these first hand accounts from the slaves themselves. If nothing is gained but a conscience thought the author has succeeded..Score: 5/5

Extrodinary WomanWhat a shame our Founding Fathers did not outlaw the institution of Slavery after the Revolutionary War. The institution of Slavery will forever be a stain on the Red, White, and Blue. Incidences of a slave girl.I wish I could speak to the author. Reading this book makes me wish I could somehow convey to the black race that not all whites hate blacks. I wish there is someway to erase the history of our country not only concerning black history but also our history concerning Indian History. My only solace is that God in in control. Incredibly powerful!Slavery has always been a subject I feel incredibly sensitive to, I remember first learning about it in elementary school and crying every night, that people would actually treat people that way. It was a rude awakening to my very young heart. This should be required reading for every high school student, they need to know what REALLY happened and our US history books don't even come close. I thought I knew about slavery, this book made me realize I only had brushed the surface of what it really meant to be a slave. I could not put this book down, I felt as though I was right beside her and needed to see what was going to happen next. Enlightening to say the least, WOW!.Score: 5/5

A real page turnerI had the rare experience of not being able to put down this book. A joyful read, in every way. It really blew my mind and should be required reading of every school age kid, and even more so, the talking heads on tv who think racism is dead and blacks should just get over it. They must learn and respect this history. I thought I was well educated in the history of the civil war and slavery, but I feel I knew very little until I devoured this wonderful book..Score: 5/5

Heart wrenching but beautiful storyI had this book among a few others to chose from for an assignment and expected to choose anything but this one assuming everyone would choose it but it was the most interesting.
