This Book Is Full of Spiders by David Wong & Jason Pargin Book Summary

From Jason Pargin, the New York Times bestselling author of the cult sensation John Dies at the End, comes another terrifying and hilarious tale of almost Armageddon at the hands of two hopeless heroes.

Warning: You may have a huge, invisible spider living in your skull. THIS IS NOT A METAPHOR.

You will dismiss this as ridiculous fear-mongering. Dismissing things as ridiculous fear-mongering is, in fact, the first symptom of parasitic spider infection--the creature stimulates skepticism, in order to prevent you from seeking a cure. That's just as well, since the "cure" involves learning what a chainsaw tastes like. You can't feel the spider, because it controls your nerve endings. You won't even feel it when it breeds. And it will breed.

Just stay calm, and remember that telling you about the spider situation is not the same as having caused it. I'm just the messenger. Even if I did sort of cause it. Either way, I won't hold it against you if you're upset. I know that's just the spider talking.

"Like an episode of AMC's The Walking Dead written by Douglas Adams of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy…Imagine a mentally ill narrator describing the zombie apocalypse while drunk, and the end result is unlike any other book of the genre. Seriously, dude, touch it and read it." –Washington Post

"Kevin Smith's Clerks meets H.P. Lovecraft in this exceptional thriller… [Jason Pargin] is a fantastic author with a supernatural talent for humor. If you want a poignant, laugh-out-loud funny, disturbing, ridiculous, self-aware, socially relevant horror novel than This Book is Full of Spiders: Seriously Dude, Don't Touch It is the one and only book for you." –SF Signal

Excellence in my kind of literature. This is the second book of David Wong's series. And it's every bit as good as John Die's at the End. If you enjoy horror and have that special taste in humor then this book along with the first are epic story's in my opinion.

Amazing. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one. I read through it in two days. I also found myself checking for spiders every couple days haha. The next one can't be released fast enough. If you like be scared and/or laughing, this book is a definite buy.

Stupendous. This book is witty, crass, philosophical and spiritual. It will make question what it means to be alive, what it means to be human, and what solidarity means.

Good read. Very entertaining. I'm a big fan of cracked and if you are too, you'll get the humor. I'm looking forward to more from this author.

Not quite as good. Although I loved the book, I preferred John Dies at the End. Still, great work and a funny and gripping book.

Amazing. I never thought anything could top "John Dies at the End" but this book manages to accomplish that. Very few works of fiction can simultaneously be both horrifying, and hilarious, and David Wong manages to repeat the incredible feat again in "This Book is Full of Spiders." The book is also much more than it appears. It dwells on some deep topics, and manages to disguise the philosophy lesson as entertainment. Read it.

I love this book...hate the spiders...... This is a must read if you enjoyed the first book, it's just as messed up and crazy as the first!! It starts out kinda slow I must admit but it quickly turns into a page turner and it's very hard to put down after you start getting in to the good stuff. I would recommend this book to anyone who gets easily bored with regular books, I'm one of those people ( ironically i love to read ) so it is refreshing to have a book I can't put down. But seriously read this book....and prey you don't get infected ;-)

Fantastic. Wonderful book. Highly recommended to anyone who reads.

I didn't want this book to end. For real funny and scary, borderline even touching. More than once while reading I ineffectually spoke to the book out loud. Reading is advised.

Addicted to Soy Sauce. More soy sauce! Please! I’m completely addicted! Seriously though, I loved this book and need more of them.

Amazing. David Wong is hilarious, disgusting, and scary in his writings, but this book is so hard to put down. As a squeamish young 20-something, I would cringe and squeal then turn the page to read what was next. Be prepared to think a lot about reality, big philosophy questions, and boners.

Very underrated!. There aren't many books I can read without getting tiresome, but I find that when I start reading this, I seem to not be able to put it down. I give this book and it's prequel five stars out of five for being the best two books I have ever read. I look forward to seeing another book in this series in the future.

Absurd dark fantasy made like Swiss watch you dare not tell time with. This second in the John Dies at the End series is as full of hilarious, sometimes frightening, frequently gory story-telling, well written characters and a compellingly twisty, page-turningly action-packed plot as the first. (Count my hyphens and despair) Best of all, this author REALLY knows how to stick a landing. The ending fully satisfies and the denouement reframes everything you just read in a way that made me shake my head in admiration. Not to say this book isn’t without flaws. The only female character is a delightful young, one-handed woman who is nevertheless only motivated and defined by her relationship with the male protagonist and is at times too perfect a girlfriend, with a back-story far better realized than her personality. And there are moments where the author uses racially loaded words and well-meaning but at times problematic vernacular when dealing with characters of color. I don’t feel truly qualified to determine if a line was crossed, but it did give me pause. Otherwise, another job done really well, and I highly recommend this and the first book in this series.

Yes. This book needs to get optioned into a movie ASAP.

Great!. An amazing follow-up to John Dies at the End. If you enjoyed JDatE, you will absolutely enjoy this.

The next time your leg goes numb.... Better check under the covers for a large leggy lobsto-spider-thingee!!! THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC! I can't believe I put it down long enough to write this review for... *goes back to reading the awesome book*

Great read. Honestly I preferred the first book, John Dies at the End. It doesn't matter, this book is still a great read. The tone of the book is a little different, more serious, less off the rails crazy. But it is still fast paced and a lot of fun.

Brilliant!. I am not a book reader. I normally watch the movie and leave well enough alone, but I came upon this book by accident and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I read John Does at the End next and cannot wait for another Wong delivery! All of my friends are hooked as well. When the nonreader of the group says "I'm reading this book..." you have no choice but to check it out. Three pages in and you are hooked on his writing style and the brilliant story! Great book, great series, and great writing!

Undisclosed.. This goes from dark and creepy to absurd to hilarious all on one page. The story told as filtered through the protagonist is vividly descriptive while using language that isn't colorful or poetic, but visceral and authentic. The horror is executed well and revelations and twists are engrossing and often grotesque. David is a character that doesn't really like anybody, save his close friend John, his Girlfriend Amy and his dog. But he knows he's the one who has to save humanity from otherworldly evil so humanity can meet destruction on our own terms. I loved John Dies at The End, and This Book is Full of Spiders is a brilliant follow up.

Loved it!. First- read John Dies at the End which is smart, funny, action packed and utterly hilarious. It's the first book o the series and its like an NC-17 version is Sean of the Dead (because they're both comedy/horror). I couldn't put it down. I plowed through John Dies at the End in three days laughing the entire time. I didn't think David Wong could top it, but This Book Book is Full of Spiders is better. Wong's style & story telling has grown but this book is more thought provoking while maintaining the suspense and humor. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just leave with I highly recommend reading both books.

Good in a different way from John Dies at the End. Comparing the two, I'd say TBIFOS is more thoughtful and philosophical, whereas JDATE is more action-packed and comical (although TBIFOS still has a lot of laugh-out-loud moments--and I mean that literally). I found myself a little bored at some points in this book, unlike in JDATE, which kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. That being said, it's still a good book and I really enjoy his writing style (even if a large portion of the book is not from David's point of view, which I didn't really like). Get it if you like to laugh and enjoy the supernatural.

You don’t need this review. I mean, look at the titles in this series. If you pull the trigger, you’ll get exactly what you deserve. In a good way.

A creepy roller coaster.. Amazing. I don't want to spoil, so I'll just say that the story keeps moving and engages you from the get go. You can't put the book down. Get it, read it, and fall in love with the grotesque and horrifying town of Undisclosed!
