The Earl's Inconvenient Wife by Ruth Ann Nordin Book Summary

When Nathaniel (Nate) Buford’s brother died, the title of Earl of Roderick passed to him, as did the duty to get an heir, a duty he doesn’t want. Now he must find a lady who suits him among the money-grubbing Ton and marry her, but it is not as easy as he would want. Fate is about to play him another unfair hand, as a moment’s kindness to a lady has him trapped by scandal to a family that is reported to desire money above all else.

Miss Claire Lowell desires marriage to a kind and respectable gentleman who she could love, but one moment might destroy it all. Despite all her protests that the scandalous circumstances were merely an accident, her family forces to accept Lord Roderick’s marriage proposal, and now she is tied to a man who blames her for trapping him into a marriage that neither of them wanted.

Can she convince him she didn't trick him into marriage or will she be confined to the loveless marriage she fears?

Like a glass of sweet tea.... This book is a refreshing way to pass the time. It's a real page-turner.

Excellent read. So nice to find a story that kept me interested from page one through the last. Loved the characters.

The earls inconvenient bride. No strong characters. Story boring and had to force myself to finish this book. Good book to fall asleep to.

It was ok. I liked the book. It seemed like she had a great story but not much to it to the build up of them getting along. Seems like the switch from cold to hot for them was turned on in one page. Wanted more.

Review. I have read a lot of books by Ruth Ann Nordin and loved them! I really tried to like this book, but I just couldn’t. The book doesn’t use the vernacular of the time period. Also, conversations are awkward and don’t flow well. The plot could have made a good story. Getting married in this time period, due to being caught in a compromising situation, isn’t a new idea, but I have read quite a few books along this line and loved them. For the book to be successful, you have to like the main characters. Nate and Claire are very hard to like. They both act childish, especially Claire. She consistently acts like a petulant child. In the church right after the conclusion of the wedding ceremony, she demands an annulment and repeatedly tells her parents that she doesn’t want to go home with her husband. Then at the inn, she throws a tantrum and accuses him of lying to her about only one room being available. Also, as soon as they arrive at their country home, she demands to go back to London in front of their staff. I could go on and on, but you get the point. If she is really this immature, she shouldn’t be out in society, but back in the schoolroom learning decorum lessons. I love the author, but not this book.

Poor writing. There have so many regency fiction written that it's almost inevitable that new books are a retelling of an old theme. Good authors are able to retell a story and still make it an interesting read. Unfortunately this is not one of those. This book could use some good editing. Some phrases are repeated too often within a few pages. Instead of being descriptive, the author sometimes tend to explain. The author could benefit from doing more research on regency manners and decorum.

insufferable. Clearly, this books lacks depth and meaning; character development is nowhere to be found and the plot felt rushed. I cannot fathom why any person would not cringe from reading this book. I simply could not finish this book .

A great story. I enjoyed this story and the way they used to trap couples into marriage. It was a good love story.

The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife. This is a very good read. Strong characters, interesting story after initially dragging a little. I enjoyed it.

The earl's inconvenient wife. This story was long, drawn out and boring. They fought too long about the same boring thing. Just not interesting at all. I tried to like them but they were boring characters.

The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife. Very beautiful, romantic and sometimes funny story, I enjoyed it very much, I have read more of this author’s books and I truly recommend every one I have read, will keep reading your books.

4 stars. Very sweet!

Meh. Felt this book had potential to be more and could have been drawn out / longer. There were multiple ways that character and "plot succession", for lack of a better term, could have been further developed to build upon what was already there. I thought it was silly that she wanted to don all these different kinds of disguises even though it served a purpose in the story.... Im interested in seeing a story for the friend Perry Clemens.

Great concept, poor execution. I don’t want to say this book is bad, but I made it halfway through — trying desperately to keep an open mind — but still had to stop and not finish. The writing is fine, the plot is fine, but the characters are rather terrible and immature. We are told — repeatedly — that our heroine is sweet and shy, and yet — repeatedly — she throws fits, tantrums and behaves in a spiteful manner. Our hero behaves no better, acting petty and bullheaded at every turn. He is nothing short of rude and cruel to the heroine, and not in a clever way. He ignores the obvious truth when it cannot be ignored by a real person with half a brain. And the rolling of the eyes! Apparently all these characters do is roll their eyes at each other every five minutes. Seeing that repeated, again and again, when it is not even an accurate behavior for a high-bred lord and a gentlewoman, was a form of torture. This is not cute. It is the behavior of children. And really, the characters in this are all consistently childlike. I think those who enjoy constant fighting and an enemies to lovers trope might enjoy this, but for me, it was just too unbelievable and inconsistent.

Am I allowed to sue for the hours of my life I wasted reading this drivel?. This author appears to lack an honest friend because someone co-signed in her idea that she can write; well, she cannot. The antics are asinine, the characters are as flat as crepes, and the story goes nowhere-slowly. This book should be reserved as an instrument of torture.

Good concept poor execution. I liked the idea of the story but it all falls apart to complacency three quarters of the way through. Did not finish.

Pure Pleasure!. A very worthwhile read! The characters and their personal struggles are very real, and the plot refreshingly original.

Tried to like it but couldn't... An inconvenient wife who's also an annoying twit and an unlikeable hero makes it a torturous read. Tried very hard to like them but couldn't find much redeeming qualities in them to like :(

Pretty great. As an author myself, I know the hard work that goes into writing. I liked the characters. This book was good. It was an easy read. The only thing that keeps it from perfect is character development, using current terminology in early 19th century, and the plot needed more of a climax. Other than that I really enjoyed it! Good job

Charming. It was slow getting into it but about halfway through it got a little better.

The earl's wife wasn't really inconvenient.. This is a traditional regency romance. The beginning was in London during The Season. The sisters are looking for husbands. The author spent the time developing personalities and a minimum of time on describing locations. We really only know of about 5 or 6 of the characters. The sex scenes weren't great, and if there wasn't a "need", it would have been fine without the details. I like those scenes in contemporary books, but it doesn't play the same in historical books. I liked the book, but I wouldn't say I loved it.

Eh. 🥱🙄🙄👎😴😴🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😴👎🙄🙄👎🙄🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️

Ugh! Less than one star.. This book is insufferable. Thankfully, it was a short book because once I start a book, I'm compelled to finish it. It's a good thing it was free. Horrible stilted writing and a ridiculous story. If it weren't for the sex scenes, I would have thought this was written for preteens.

I loved it!. The Earl's Inconvenient Wife I a a really good beer, I hope others find it just as great as I do!

Not good at all. I'm totally shocked that this has such good reviews. The plot is poorly laid out and there is little character development.

Enough with the eye rolls!. I am not joking when I say that someone rolls their eyes every third page. Not only is that a modern day affect, it is also extremely juvenile, disrespectful behavior that would not be tolerated in anyone over the age of twelve. It doesn’t lend to expressing frustration.....please, stop using this affect in your stories unless you are writing a children’s book.

Enchanted read!. I adored this book! The ending was amazing and all through the book I never wanted to put it down! Finished the book in 2 hours, because I couldn't stop :)

I tried to like it, but could not!. I read this book and was overall disappointed. The book lacked substance, lacked character development, and not only was the plot introduced really late and rushed, but it was really POOR, (to name a few). Anyway, I normally do not write comments on the books I read, but I felt compelled to write a comment for this poorly written book. BTW..., English is my second language so I apologize for any grammatcal errors. I hated this book, even for a free read. It was so bad I gave it less than a star.

Great book!. I loved this book. I wish there were more like it. I would've gladly paid money to read it

No. Skip please.

Okay book. Not a completely bad book. Not a big fan of ending though. It felt rushed. Book was still an interesting enough read.

The Ear's Inconvenient Wife. What an inconvenient book. The hero is a lackluster twit and the heroine is an idiot, I couldn't finish this book even though I was skipping pages! Don't waste your time with this.

PLOT. The author had a good idea for this story, but unfortunately it didn't follow through. I get that the idea was that their marriage was a whole misunderstanding, however, it shouldn't have taken fifteen chapters to resolve almost EVERY problem they had... at the same time, and every other problem was quickly resolved after that. If everything were timed correctly it would have not only made space for more content, but it would have inclined the reader. The beginning started off well, but it got uninteresting after, very quickly. My advice to the author is, if you would've given the story a little more time to marinate, you'd see it with new eyes and see the problems. I give it one star for your diversity of character, in most.

Bilge!. God awful! Author: do some research!

Intiruing. Loved the characters, but felt it was cut short at end. It also would of been nice some more intimate brief encounters leavin up.... The rewarding consummating scene. But love it :)

The Earl’s Most Inconvenient Wife. A wonderful book the story is well written with lots of funny twists and turns, well done to the Author thank you 🙏🌺🌺❤️

Delightful. A light pleasant read with good characters and a no-major-fuss storyline. I definitely enjoyed this regency drama .

The Earls inconvenient wife. A really good read and funny at times

Too repetitive. A good effort but I found this a frustrating read, with with events and certain words repeated more than necessary. The narrative was also too modern in style for the period in which it was set.

Lovely Girly story. Just right to read a sweet girly story wrapped in front of the fire - glass in hand. Thank you Ruth

The Earl's Inconvenient WIfe. I enjoyed this book very much, the story theme love conquers all in the end ... An unhappy start to marriage followed by small incidents does not make for a happy out come... But love comes and everything turns out for the best! An enjoyable read.

Classic regency. The book takes a little while to get into and I must admit I did wish for the book to be about 50 pages shorter. However, I enjoyed the story so much that it really is a minor issue. The characters HAVE character and while you know what is going to happen in the end, you enjoy the journey to get there. If you like regency romance then this is definitely one of the better ones!

The inconvenient wife. Enjoyed this book nearly didn't think I would but yes very good

Bit slow to start but fun. Slow to start but a classic historical romance plot.

the earls inconvenient wife. This book I just could not put down sexy romantic and in some parts I laugh so much I cried a work of art.

Waste of time. Badly edited, disjointed, not a smooth read, try something else

Annoying Characters. I never usually write reviews but this book frustrated me to no end. Only made it halfway through as the main characters were extremely annoying, and could honestly have used some redeeming qualities to endear them to readers.

Couldn't finish it. The set-up for the marriage is weak and forced...the characters, except for Perry, are completely unappealing...as the story progresses, each action or event is even more unbelievable than the previous one. I made it through 100 pages before realizing that I just couldn't stick it out. (One of the final straws came when Claire started "journaling". The Regency setting had been shaky before, but that definitely sealed it!)

Enjoyable. Sweet romance book-- a traditional harlequin-like story.

A little confusing at 1st, but gets into a really good, fun story :). A little confusing at 1st, with so many characters and so many points of view, or it seemed that way to me at least. It got really good and I totally enjoyed it. Good have been a smidgen more smutier, but what was there was very well done ;)

I liked it!. I enjoyed the book as l know a fellow much like Roderick, so l found it rather enlightening. Yet, to be fair, the rest of the series was better than the first one.

Poor. The main character is absolutely insufferable. She is impossible to like as she is cruel, rude and arrogant. It's impossible to enjoy a story when the characters are loathsome.
