Omg. Lizzithin or whatever they DID make a movie about this book for the love of God! The newer book was published in 2012 the old was 1980s. The movie is way better than the old book by the way. In the movie howl is cute and amazing in the book he is stuffy and just plain IRRITATING. Also some bad components from the book were left out in the movie like howl being from the "future", which I did not like. I highly recommend watching it on veoh.

Enjoyable book. I have just finished reading it,l watched the movie long before, and for me the move is much better in many ways, but that’s doesn’t prevent me to enjoy the book specially that’s there’s many difference between them, and for sure the writer’s style is very good and also funny, but what makes me give it four stars not five is the cold ending(it’s disappointed me), which for sure was able to be more enchanting. I don’t think that I’m gonna read the other books of this series, I don’t want to ruin my Ghibli Howl,Sofi and the other characters 😅😅.

Great Movie, Better Book. @lizzithin I see people have corrected you already, but I just wanted to say that Diana Wynne Jones so deserves credit for this universe. People see the movie and they adore it, and that's great. But this book should not be shoved into the shadows and forgotten just because the movie was good. You should really do more research before you post your silly opinion. In the English dubbed version it even says right underneath the main title, "based on the novel by Diana Wynne Jones" Anyway, about the book. I recommend this book to everyone I meet. I've given it as a gift numerous times because it's simply a must read for any age. Full of magic and excitement, every time I re-read it, I simply can't put it down. Jones's wit is incredible and the characters are so unique and quirky that you fall in love with every one. And that is the only complaint I had about the film. The characters were far too heroic. The characters as they are in the book are quite flawed. They are selfish and they make mistakes, but they are also clever and caring. You find out by the end of the book, that the flaws are what make these characters special. You laugh with them, you grow frustrated with them, you care for them. All in all, you're doing yourself an immense favor by purchasing this book, it can't be missed.

Very nice. I really enjoyed the book and all the characters. Very different from the movie, but as always the book is better than the movie. I wish we got to see more romance between Howl and Sophie.

Love it!!!!!. This is my first time ever doing a review, but I feel that it is needed to show just how much I love this book. I've read this book so many times, and I love it with all my heart. I would totally recommend that you read it, it's even better than the movie.

Howl’s moving castle. I really love the movie Howl’s moving castle by Studio Ghibli. I have been trying to find the book and I finally got it. The book is not like the movie (which is fine for me). (Spoilers ahead):I really like how the book has more depth of the characters like Sophie, Martha, and Lettie are in here. I also really love how Howl and Sophie start in a bad relationship then they start to become more connected with each other. That’s all to it really. Yeah there may be some things that can turn you the wrong way but other than that I love the story.❤️

Love this book. I was expecting something like the move. But it is so much better,there are so many things that made me laugh, cry, smile and much more.

Purely Magical. A worthwhile read. I have read this story three times and every time I am always enchanted from the beginning to the end. With every read I discover something new, and unexpected. Each character is unique and not a tipical hero that you would find in any other story. Within The world of Howl's Moving Castle anything can happen, from young girls becoming old crones to doors opening to several places at once to castles constantly moving, and they always do. In this world you will never know what to expect, but that is the magic of this book. Howl's Moving Castle is an instant classic and will be read and loved by fans young and old to generations to come.

Calcifer!. Kay, I'm one of the few girls out there that doesn't want to marry Howl. Sure, if he asked I might say yes, but I would never ask him myself- it's not like a crush. Love this book so much!!! Totally recommend. It's up there with HP. I have it as a paperback not ebook, however. Anyway, thank you Diana! And may all your bacon burn.

Beautifully written. I have been a huge fan of the movie and decided to check out the novel. The novel did not disappoint. It isn’t exactly the same as the movie but so much more and beautifully written. This has become a favorite that I’m happy to say I will reread over and over. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

Terrific Fantasy. I binge read this in less than 2 days. That should say enough about how great it is. Very different from the Ghibli movie, but more rich in my opinion

Who came first, the book or the movie?. @lizzithin: Wrong, Diana Wynne Jones wrote the story first and it was published in April 1986.

Read this at least once in your lifetime!!!. This book really is one of those books that leaves you completely satisfied and joyful once you've finished it. Throw in watching the movie adaptation of this book after you read the book and you'll have a big grin all the way through. The only compliant that I have is that I wish there was a direct sequel to this book with the same main charecters and a while new adventure instead of Sophie and Howl showing up a little here and there in "Castle in the Sky" and "House of Many Ways." Although If you want a sense of completion and ending then I HIGHLY recommend watching the movie version of this book as it is an amazing movie and it would be a crime not to watch it after reading such a wonderful story.

Howl's Moving castle. I love this movie!!!!

Studio Ghibli? anyone?. They did not make a movie about this book, for the love of god. I'm sure it's very good, as everyone here seems to like it, but seriously, Howl's Moving Castle was first a Hayao Miyazaki film produced in 2004, whereas this book was published in 2012. Just felt I needed to say, as the overview of this book in iTunes gives no credit to Miyazaki at all, and he is an amazing director/writer who really, really deserves it. I'm interested in this book in any case, so long as it stays true to the storyline (funny, it's usually the other way around), and I'll probably read it, but I would highly recommend the movie, as you may have guessed.

In response to lizzithin.... Actually, the book came out far before the Miyazaki movie. The book was published back in 1986, and the movie is indeed based off of it. I know it says published in 2012 on here, but I believe that is the date the book was published as an e-book on iTunes. But it’s easy to see how you could get confused. That being said, Howl’s Moving Castle is a fantastic read. I’ve re-read it maybe four times and it never gets old. Even if you’ve seen the movie, you should still read the book. Though both the movie and the book are great, they are entirely different.

Fabulous. This book is one of my absolute favorites- I have read it several times myself, and my kids have made me read it to them several times. Imaginative story line, wonderful sense of humor, and fabulous message about how love changes people.

Favorite. I love this book, as do my friends. Be sure to read House of Many Ways next, it took us 5 years after we fell in love with Sophie and Howl to discover it!
